The shaft I4 is surrounded by a tubular column or post [5 which at its lower end has a cone like formation l6 and likewise the upper end of the hub I2 is formed with a cone I! so that an antifriction device l8 will be confined therebetween, 10 and in this instance the device is in the nature of bearing balls.

The column or post immediately above the cone It is provided with a spider l9 to which are secured horizontally disposed radial sills 20, these being formed with outwardly inclined upper edges 2i. Upon the upper edges 2| of the sills rest tread or floor boards 22, which are secured in place in any suitable manner and these with the sills constitute the turn-table or plat- 20 form of the apparatus.

The upper end of the shaft M has a reduced threaded terminal 23 to which is fitted the center hub 24 of a hand wheel 25, the latter being held by a nut 26 engaged on the reduced end 23.

Suitably mounted upon the turn-table or platform at equi-distances apart are double seats 21, these being adapted for occupants desiring to ride said table or platform.

The head-wheel at its hub 24 telescopes over 80 the upper end of the column or post l5, while within the latter are bushings 28 and 29, respectively. The hub 24 is provided with a lubricant passage 30 for permitting oiling of the column which rotates on the shaft 14.

In the use of the apparatus a child or children mount the table or platform and grasp the wheel, then such child.- or children exert pressure in an angular direction by their feet upon the table or platform so as to cause the turning of the same at variable speeds thus lending amusement and pleasure to those using the apparatus.

There are no projecting parts or gearing associated with the apparatus thus the same being rendered safe inthe working thereof.

It is of course understood that the machine is operated by the feet of the child, children or adults, and this effected by holding onto the wheel 25 and with the feet the platform is turned, the faster the gait or stride on the latter the faster the machine revolves. By holding oneself in check by pulling the opposite way to the travel of the platform the wheel 25 acts as a brake and stops almost instantly but not abruptly the machine. The wheel 25 is station- 65 ary and is fastened at'the top of the shaft M which latter connects with the lower casting or base. This platform is supported by the upper or top casting which revolves around the shaft, these castings being suitably fitted with antifriction bearings, and'thereby making it possible to operate the platform without much efiort at all and thus lending amusement and pleasure to those using the machine.

What is claimed is:

An apparatus of the kind described, comprising a body forming a base, a center bearing on the base and forming a hub rising above the latter, a vertical shaft splined in said hub and rising from said base, a tubular column fitted over the shaft and having a cone-like lower. end receiving the upper portion of the hub, anti-friction means about the upper portion of the hub and within the cone-like lower end of the column, a spider formed with the column next to the cone-like end, a turn-table forming a platform supported by the spider, a hand wheel fixed to the shaft above the column high enough for persons to hold onto and propel the platform with their feet, seats on the platform at the outer edge thereof to be far enough away from the wheel to give the persons operating the latter, ample space about said wheel to propel the platform and a maximum walking area between the wheel and seats and a central hub on the under side of the wheel and fitted over the upper end of the column.
