Abstract
A fire pit is provided that includes a pair of spaced apart inner and outer vertical concentric walls providing a circular air passageway therebetween. Air is blown into the circular air passageway to flow in one circular direction to spaced outlet openings connected to conduits for feeding heated air to outwardly spaced registers around the fire pit. Flammable material in the chamber of the fire pit produces heated air transmitted through the inner metal wall into the air passageway which is then distributed to outlet openings connected to conduits extending to outwardly spaced registers.
Description
- This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/373,852, filed Aug. 11, 2016, which is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety.
- The invention relates to heating systems. More specifically, but not exclusively, the invention relates to fire pits.
- Fire pits are common to create outdoor atmosphere and heat during cold weather. The heat coming from the conventional fire pit rises upwardly and to some extent it flows outwardly for persons around the fire pit to enjoy. Persons must sit very close to the fire pit to receive its heat benefits.
- What is needed is a fire pit that will provide heat comfort to persons sitting around the fire pit some distance from the fire pit itself.
- Therefore, it is the primary objective, feature, and/or advantage of the invention to improve on and/or overcome a deficiencies in the art.
- It is another object, feature, and/or advantage of the invention to utilize fire pit heat for providing heat to persons sitting at some distance from the fire pit by heat being transmitted radially outwardly in addition to vertically upwardly.
- It is yet another object, feature, and/or advantage of the invention to provide a pair of spaced apart inner and outer vertical concentric walls providing a circular air passageway therebetween with the passageway receiving heat from the fire pit being conducted through the inner wall into the passageway.
- These and/or other objects, features, and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art. The invention is not to be limited to or by these objects, features, and advantages. No single embodiments need provide each and every object, feature, or advantage.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a fire pit installed in the ground with registers provided radially and circumferencely around the fire pit. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the installed fire pit with the underground components being shown in dash lines. -
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the double wall fire pit including a pair of spaced apart inner and outer vertical concentric walls providing a circular air passageway therebetween. -
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken along line 4-4 inFIG. 2 showing air being provided into the circular air passageway and heated air from the passageway being distributed to ground surface mounted registers spaced radially out from the double wall fire pit. - Various embodiments of the invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings, where like reference numerals represent like parts throughout the several views. Reference to various embodiments does not limit the scope of the invention. Figures represented herein are not limitations to the various embodiments according to the invention and are presented for exemplary illustration of the invention.
- The double
wall fire pit 10 shown inFIG. 2 includes aninner wall 12 and anouter wall 14 as seen inFIG. 3 which provides anair passageway 16 therebetween. Ahorizontal top wall 18 is provided over the top of theinner wall 12 andouter wall 14. The lower side of theair passageway 16 is open but closed by the ground when installed as seen inFIG. 2 . - An air inlet opening 20 is provided in the
outer wall 14 and receives apipe 22 having an inner end 24 inside theair passageway 16 and anouter end 26 extending outwardly and above ground for connection to afan 28. Anelectrical power cord 30 is provided for operating thefan 28. - A
chamber 32 is provided inside the fire pit to receive flammable materials such as firewood (not shown). The heat from the flammable material when burning is transmitted through the metalinner wall 12 to theair passageway 16 which is circulating air as indicated by thearrows 34 inside the air passageway. -
Air outlet openings 36 are positioned around and through theouter wall 14 to distribute heated air throughconduits 38 to registers 40 facing upwardly and providingheated air 42.Ground material 44 is provided over theconduits 38 to provide a finished look surrounding thefire pit 10. Thetop wall 18 is coplanar with theground material 44.
