Abstract

A backpack cover device protects a backpack from contaminants, dirt, and debris during use. The device includes a sleeve having a closed bottom end and a peripheral wall extending from the closed bottom end defining an interior space. The peripheral wall defines an opening into the interior space. Each of a pair of spaced parallel slots extends through a back section of the peripheral wall for receiving a respective strap of a backpack therethrough. A pocket is coupled to an exterior surface of the peripheral wall. A flap is coupled to and extends from the peripheral wall. The flap is positionable to extend over and cover the opening into the interior space. A closure is coupled to the sleeve. The closure secures the flap to the peripheral wall in a closed position extending over the opening into the interior space.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Field of the Disclosure

The disclosure relates to cover devices and more particularly pertains to a new cover device for protecting a backpack from contaminants, dirt, and debris during use.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a sleeve having a closed bottom end and a peripheral wall extending from the closed bottom end defining an interior space. The peripheral wall defines an opening into the interior space. Each of a pair of spaced parallel slots extends through a back section of the peripheral wall for receiving a respective strap of a backpack therethrough. A pocket is coupled to an exterior surface of the peripheral wall. A flap is coupled to and extends from the peripheral wall. The flap is positionable to extend over and cover the opening into the interior space. A closure is coupled to the sleeve. The closure secures the flap to the peripheral wall in a closed position extending over the opening into the interior space.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated.
There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new cover device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the backpack cover device 10 generally comprises a sleeve 12 having a closed bottom end 14 and a peripheral wall 16 extending from the closed bottom end 14 defining an interior space 18. The peripheral wall 16 defines an opening 20 into the interior space 18. The peripheral wall 16 has a front section 22 positioned opposite a back section 24. The front section 22 has a height less than a height of the back section 24. The peripheral wall 16 has an opposed pair of side sections 26 extending between the back section 24 and the front section 22. Each side section 26 has a curved top edge 28 extending between the back section 24 and the front section 22. The top edge 28 of each side section 26 is convexly arcuate. The sleeve 12 may be formed of a flexible material.
Each of a pair of spaced parallel slots 30 extends through the back section 24 of the peripheral wall 16 wherein each of the slots 30 is configured for receiving a respective strap 32 of a backpack 34 therethrough when the backpack 34 is positioned in the interior space 18.
A flap 36 is coupled to and extends from the peripheral wall 16 along a back edge 68 coextensive with the back section 24. The flap 36 is positionable to extend over and cover the opening 20 into the interior space 18. A closure 38 is coupled to the sleeve 12.
The closure 38 secures the flap 36 to the peripheral wall 16 in a closed position 40 extending over the opening 20 into the interior space 18. The closure 38 is complementary portions of hook and loop fastener 42,44. The hook and loop fastener portions 42,44 extend along a full length of the opening 20 into the interior space 18 between opposite edges 46 of the flap 36.
A slit 48 extends through the flap 36 wherein the slit 48 is configured for receiving a handle 50 of the backpack 34 therethrough when the backpack 34 is positioned in the interior space 18 and the flap 36 is extended over the opening 20 into the interior space 18. Each of the slots 30 and the slit 48 is reinforced by a respective liner 52.
Each of a plurality of pockets 54 is coupled to an exterior surface 56 of the peripheral wall 16 and may be arranged on the back section 24 and side sections 26 providing additional storage or carrying space without having to open the flap 36 to access the backpack 34. A logo 66 may be positioned on the exterior surface 56 of the peripheral wall 16, particularly on the front section 22 between one of the pockets 54 and the opening 20.
In use, the backpack 34 is positioned in the interior space 18 by insertion through the opening 20. The flap 36 is secured in the closed position 40 holding the backpack 34 within the interior space 18 of the sleeve 12. The straps 32 of the backpack 34 are extended through the slots 30 allowing for use of the straps 32 in a conventional manner. When desired, the backpack 34 may be carried using the handle 50 extending through the slit 48. The sleeve 12 protects the backpack 34 from being accessed while being worn on the back of a user, inhibits scraping or scuffing of the backpack 34, and inhibits contamination or dirtying of the backpack 34 while being used.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims

1. A backpack cover device comprising:

a sleeve having a closed bottom end and a peripheral wall extending from said closed bottom end defining an interior space, said peripheral wall defining an opening into said interior space;

a pair of spaced parallel slots extending through a back section of said peripheral wall wherein each of said slots is configured for receiving a respective strap of a backpack therethrough when the backpack is positioned in said interior space;

a pocket coupled to an exterior surface of said peripheral wall;

a flap coupled to and extending from said peripheral wall, said flap being positionable to extend over and cover said opening into said interior space;

a closure coupled to said sleeve, said closure securing said flap to said peripheral wall in a closed position extending over said opening into said interior space; and

a slit extending through said flap wherein said slit is configured for receiving a handle of the backpack therethrough when the backpack is positioned in said interior space and said flap is extended over said opening into said interior space.

2. The device of claim 1, further comprising said peripheral wall having a front section positioned opposite said back section, said front section having a height less than a height of said back section.

3. The device of claim 2, further comprising said peripheral wall having an opposed pair of side sections extending between said back section and said front section, each said side section having a curved top edge extending between said back section and said front section.

4. The device of claim 3, further comprising said top edge of each said side section being convexly arcuate.

5. The device of claim 1, further comprising said closure being complementary portions of hook and loop fastener.

6. The device of claim 5, further comprising said hook and loop fastener extending fully along a length of said opening into said interior space between opposite edges of said flap.

8. The device of claim 1, further comprising each of said slots and said slit being reinforced by a respective liner.

9. A backpack cover device comprising:

a sleeve having a closed bottom end and a peripheral wall extending from said closed bottom end defining an interior space, said peripheral wall defining an opening into said interior space, said peripheral wall having a front section positioned opposite a back section, said front section having a height less than a height of said back section, said peripheral wall having an opposed pair of side sections extending between said back section and said front section, each said side section having a curved top edge extending between said back section and said front section, said top edge of each said side section being convexly arcuate;

a pair of spaced parallel slots extending through said back section of said peripheral wall wherein each of said slots is configured for receiving a respective strap of a backpack therethrough when the backpack is positioned in said interior space;

a plurality of pockets, each said pocket being coupled to an exterior surface of said peripheral wall;

a closure coupled to said sleeve, said closure securing said flap to said peripheral wall in a closed position extending over said opening into said interior space, said closure being complementary portions of hook and loop fastener, said hook and loop fastener extending fully along a fully length of said opening into said interior space between opposite edges of said flap.

a slit extending through said flap wherein said slit is configured for receiving a handle of the backpack therethrough when the backpack is positioned in said interior space and said flap is extended over said opening into said interior space; and

each of said slots and said slit being reinforced by a respective liner.
