Abstract
Description
- The entire contents of Taiwan Patent Application No. 104107265, filed on Mar. 6, 2015, from which this application claims priority, are expressly incorporated herein by reference.
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a training machine, and more particularly relates to treadmill with adjustable inclination.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- Nowadays, people tend to lack adequate exercise due to busy lifestyles. To the extent running has become popular as a simple and effective means for squeezing physical activity into a tight schedule, it is not always practicable. When the weather is bad or during particular times (such as at night), running on a treadmill can be more convenient as compared to being outside.
- Some conventional treadmills are designed to include a ramp mechanism so that the front portion of the treadmill can be lifted, and thus running on an ascent can be simulated. However, the user of the treadmill may also want to simulate running on a descent.
- In one general aspect, the present invention relates to treadmills featuring that running on an ascent or on a descent can be both simulated.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, a treadmill is provided with a base, a first frame, a second frame, and a driving assembly. The base allows a user to walk or run in place. The first frame and the second frame pivotally couple with a front portion and a rear portion of the base, respectively. The driving assembly moveably couples with the first frame and the second frame. The moving of the driving assembly between the first frame and the second frame will result in an elevation of the front portion or the rear portion.

Wherever possible, the same or similar reference numbers are used in drawings and the description to refer to the same or like parts.

FIG. 1 is an exploded view showing a treadmill 1 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As shown inFIG. 1 , the treadmill 1 comprises abase 10, afirst frame 20, asecond frame 30, and adriving assembly 40. -
FIGS. 2A and 2B are perspective views showing thefirst frame 20, thesecond frame 30, and thedriving assembly 40 ofFIG. 1 . Referring toFIGS. 1, 2A, and 2B , thebase 10 may comprises aconveyor belt 102 allowing the user to run or walk on it. Thefirst frame 20 is arranged under thebase 10 and pivotally coupled with afront portion 104 of thebase 10. Thesecond frame 30 is arranged under thebase 10 and pivotally coupled with arear portion 106 of thebase 10. Thedriving assembly 40 is arranged between thefirst frame 20 and thesecond frame 30, and movably couples with thefirst frame 20 and thesecond frame 30. The movement of thedriving assembly 40 will result in an elevation of thefirst frame 20 or thesecond frame 30. - Notice is made that the components of the
driving assembly 40 are movable between thefirst frame 20 and thesecond frame 30. The following will discuss the detail. -
FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing that thebase 10 of the treadmill 1 ofFIG. 1 is at a horizontal condition. Referring toFIGS. 1, 2A, 2B, and 3 , thefirst frame 20 may comprise, but is not limited to, alateral stick 202 and twoside sticks 204 arranged at a side of thelateral stick 202, respectively. Eachside stick 204 includes two ends, in which one end has awheel 208 against a supporting plane or ground, and the other end has apivot portion 206 to pivotally couple with apivot portion 108 of thefront portion 104 of thebase 10. As shown inFIG. 3 , when thebase 10 is horizontal, astop block 112 under thefront portion 104 of thebase 10 is against thefirst frame 20. -
FIG. 4 is a partially enlarged view showing the second frame of the treadmill 1 when thebase 10 is horizontal. Referring toFIGS. 1, 2A, 2B, and 4 , thesecond frame 30 may comprise, but is not limited to, anouter frame 302 and aninner frame 304. Theouter frame 302 comprises fourpads 3020 being placed against the supporting plane or ground. Theinner frame 304 is arranged within theouter frame 302 and may comprise, but is not limited to, alateral bar 3040, twolongitudinal bars 3042, two risingarms 3044, and alateral rod 3056. The twolongitudinal bars 3042 are respectively arranged at a side of thelateral bar 3040. Eachlongitudinal bar 3042 comprises two ends, in which one end has apivot portion 3046 to pivotally couple with apivot portion 110 of therear portion 106 of thebase 10, and the other end has awheel 3048 movably coupling with theouter frame 302. The two risingarms 3044 are respectively arranged at a side of thelateral rod 3056 and fixes with thelateral rod 3056. Each risingarm 3044 comprises two ends, in which one end pivotally couples to theouter frame 302 via anaxis 3050, and the other end pivotally apivot portion 3052 of a correspondedlongitudinal bar 3042. In addition, the rear end of eachlongitudinal bar 3042 has apad 3058, and when thebase 10 is horizontal, thepad 3058 is against thelateral rod 3056. - Referring to
FIGS. 1, 2A, and 2B , thedriving assembly 40 may comprise, but is not limited to, amotor 402, ascrew 404, and atube 406. Thetube 406 has internal thread to engage with thescrew 404. Further, thetube 406 has apivot portion 408 to pivotally couple with apivot portion 210 of the first frame, and themotor 402 has apivot portion 410 to pivotally couple with apivot portion 3054 of thesecond frame 30. Themotor 402 can drive thescrew 404 to rotate, so that thetube 406 can move along thescrew 404 in a direction toward thefront portion 104 or therear portion 106 of thebase 10. -
FIGS. 5 and 6 are side views showing the operation of the treadmill 1 ofFIG. 1 . As shown inFIG. 3 , when the base is horizontal, the stop block 112 under thebase 10 is against thefirst frame 20. Referring toFIGS. 2A, 3, and 5 , when the user instructs to simulate running on a descent, the drivingassembly 40 is controlled to move thetube 406 toward thefront portion 104 and thus increase the total length of the drivingassembly 40. At this time the stop block 112 blocks thefirst frame 20 to rise, and exerts a counterforce to thesecond frame 30 via thetube 406, so that thesecond frame 30 is lifted. In particular, the risingarm 3044 is raised by rotating around theaxis 3050, and thewheel 3048 of thelongitudinal bar 3042 moves toward therear portion 106, so that thesecond frame 30 is lifted, and the whole drivingassembly 40 is raised a bit as well. When the drivingassembly 40 is controlled to move thetube 406 back to the original position, thebase 10 will resume horizontal. - Referring to
FIG. 4 , when thebase 10 is horizontal, thepads 3058 of thelongitudinal bars 3042 are against thelateral rod 3056. Referring to 2B and 6, when the user instructs to simulate running on an ascent, the drivingassembly 40 is controlled to move thetube 406 toward therear portion 106 and thus decrease the total length of the drivingassembly 40. At this moment thesecond frame 30 cannot be lowered because thepads 3058 are against thelateral rod 3056, such that thetube 406 will drag thefirst frame 20 moving toward therear portion 106 and thus make thefirst frame 20 lifted, and the whole drivingassembly 40 is raised a bit as well. When the drivingassembly 40 is controlled to move thetube 406 back to its original position, thebase 10 will resume horizontal. - Preferably, the
stop block 112 and thepads 3058 are made of a material or a composite material whose at least a portion is soft or elastic, so as to reduce noise due to contact with thelateral rod 3056 and thefirst frame 20 that are typically made of metal. - Accordingly, the above embodiment of the present invention provides a treadmill, which employs merely one driving assembly to achieve the elevation of the front portion or the rear portion of the base. The configuration is simple and low-lost, while the response is effective and fast.
- Modifications, variations, and equivalents may be made for the above-mentioned embodiment for a person skilled in the art, and those modifications, variations, and equivalents are within the scope of the present invention.
FIG. 7 is an exploded view showing a treadmill according to another embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, thepivot portion 408 of thetube 406 pivotally couples with thepivot portion 3054 of thesecond frame 30, and thepivot portion 410 of themotor 402 pivotally couples with thepivot portion 210 of thefirst frame 20. Themotor 402 drives thescrew 404 to rotate, so that thetube 406 moves along thescrew 404 in a direction toward thefront portion 104 or therear portion 106. When thebase 10 is horizontal and themotor 402 drives to thetube 406 moving toward thefront portion 104, thefirst frame 20 will be lifted. When thebase 10 is horizontal and themotor 402 drives to thetube 406 moving toward therear portion 106, therear frame 30 will be lifted. The other features of this embodiment may be the same as the foregoing embodiment. - The intent accompanying this disclosure is to have each/all embodiments construed in conjunction with the knowledge of one skilled in the art to cover all modifications, variations, combinations, permutations, omissions, substitutions, alternatives, and equivalents of the embodiments, to the extent not mutually exclusive, as may fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
