    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims priority from U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/911,610 filed on Dec. 4, 2013 and which is all incorporated by reference in its entirety herein.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • It can be difficult to retrieve fruit from a glass of sangria. Some individuals may try to stab the fruit with a straw, but the fruit can slide off the end of the straw and make a mess. Other individuals may try to grab the fruit with a utensil or their fingers, but this can be messy and sloppy, as well. Especially if drinking sangria in a restaurant or bar. It can be frustrating for individuals who wish to eat fruit from .a beverage but have difficulty retrieving it.

  • FIG. 1 shows a view of an individual retrieving a lemon from sangria.
  • FIG. 2 shows a view of the straw in use with various glasses.
  • FIG. 3 shows a view of the straw in various styles and colors.

  • DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
  • Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a view of an individual retrieving a lemon from sangria. The device provides users with a convenient way to retrieve fruit from sangria without making a mess. The device includes a drinking or stirring straw that is constructed from sturdy plastic material. Around the bottom of the straw there are four evenly spaced columns with rounded, slightly outward-protruding prongs. The prongs pierce and grab a piece of fruit at the bottom of a glass of sangria, permitting users with the ability to easily pick up and eat the fruit. The straw also has a flexible section located near the top of the straw so that users can bend the straw for comfortable sipping.
  • Referring now to FIG. 2, there is shown a view of the straw in use with various glasses. The device prevents individuals from spilling a drink while trying to eat the fruit that is inside a beverage. The present invention contains a straw with ridges on the bottom so it can stick the fruit.
  • Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a view of the straw in various styles and colors. The device is similar to that of a traditional straw, but includes protrusions located at the bottom of the straw. The protruding components at the bottom aid of the straw in piecing fruit when individuals desire to eat the fruit that is contained within a beverage. The top portion of the straw is flexible and bends. The pointed, stake-like protrusions help users to instantly pick up fruit out of a beverage as needed.
  • Referring now to FIG. 4, there is shown a close-up view of the prongs included on the present invention. The prongs on the bottom of the straw project outward from the body of the straw. The prongs are installed in the bottom region of the straw to assist users when needing to piece fruit. The device prevents individuals from making a mess or spilling a drink while attempting to eat fruit from a beverage.
  • Referring now to FIG. 5, there is shown a view of how the prongs can pierce and grab the fruit. The prongs on the straw curl upward toward the drinking end of the straw. This construction of the prongs prevents fruit from slipping backward off of the straw when fruit has been pieced. Once the fruit is pieced, the prongs secure the fruit in its position on the straw.
  • The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.

Claims (11)

Accordingly, I claim:
1. An apparatus to ease the consumption of a drink having both a liquid and a solid substance, said apparatus comprising a straw having a first end and a second end, said first end designed to be inserted into the drink to allow the consumption of the liquid and having a least one barb, such that when the first end is pushed through the solid substance in the drink, it inhibits the extraction of the straw from the solid substance to allow the retrieval of the solid substance for consumption.
2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first end has more than one barb.
3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first end has a multiplicity of barbs.
4. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first end has a plurality of barbs.
5. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first end further comprises four evenly spaced columns, each column further comprising of a multiplicity of barbs.
6. A straw having a first end and a second end, said first end designed to be inserted into a drink and having a least one projection angled away from the main point of said straw whereby if said first end of said straw is used to retrieve an food item, said angled projection secures the food item and prevents it from slipping off the straw.
7. The apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said first end has more than one projection angled away from the main point of the opening of said first end of said straw.
8. The apparatus in accordance with claim 6, wherein said first end has a multiplicity of projections angled away from the main point of said opening of said first end of said straw.
9. The apparatus in accordance with claim 6, wherein said first end has a plurality of projections angled away from the main point of said opening of said first end of said straw.
10. An article of manufacture comprising a hollow sipping stem and a multiplicity of projections near and angled away from the main point of the intake end of said hollow sipping stem.
11. The Article of manufacture in accordance with claim 10, wherein said multiplicity of projections near and angled away from the main point of the intake end of said hollow sipping stem act as barbs.
