Abstract

Pistol recoil device that mounts to hand guns with a Picatinny Rail; used for preventing muzzle rise and felt recoil to the shooter. Consisting of a detachable Picatinny Rail mount bracing the device so it is firm; an extended arm on the shooters non-shooting hand extends to a thumb rest allowing the shooter to apply cantilever down forces with the non-shooting thumb to prevent muzzle rise and felt recoil by allowing the shooter more control of the pistol during targeting.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • (1) Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to hand held pistols and revolver firearms that have a Picatinny Rail mount on the underside of the front grip near the barrel region to allow mounting of the present invention to be used to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise by allowing the shooter to apply a cantilever reciprocating force to improve aim and targeting when firing a pistol with the shooter's non-shooting hand thumb.
  • (2) Background Art
  • Prior-art used for reducing pistol and revolver recoil were placed on the hand gun grip section or anchored to the hand gun grip. A handgun grip recoil device in the rear location does not allow transfer of a cantilever force towards the front of the firearm with the non-shooting hand thumb fully extended to prevent primary and secondary recoil forces. Primary recoil forces are the result of momentum conservation; momentum characterizes an objects resistance to movement. Although a bullet's mass is quite small compared to a hand gun, the velocity of the bullet traveling down the barrel creates a momentum of the gun recoiling in the opposite direction. The secondary recoil comes later when the bullet leaves the muzzle and the hot exploded gases creates a second and larger momentum in the opposite direction on the hand gun. As a result, reciprocating forces are not applied under the hand gun barrel near the muzzle opening by other devices; this is where muzzle rise originates after a fired bullet departs the pistol barrel through the muzzle coupled with the explosive hot gases, and rear grip mounted recoil systems do not apply downward force in the muzzle area to harness these secondary recoil forces. These devices also do not mount to the Picatinny Rail and are on the rear portion of the hand gun grip instead of the front portion of the hand gun grip. As a result, the configuration on the rear hand gun grip does not offer a cantilever reciprocating down force near the muzzle as does the present invention.
  • Other prior-art requires the shooter to drill into the side of a pistol hand gun grip or internal frame to attach a ledge. These devices are not easily detachable and also do not apply forces to the underside of the barrel near the muzzle to harness the secondary recoil forces as well as the present invention. The present invention solves this problem making an attachment with hand guns that have a Picatinny Rail built into the front of the hand gun grip.
  • What is needed to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil is the present invention which attaches under the barrel of the pistol on the grip area that has a Picatinny Rail and provides a cantilever reciprocating force to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil by the shooter as set forth in the next section.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Modern pistols and revolvers have a Picatinny Rail mounted to the front part of the firearm grip, and under the barrel of the firearm. In the case of pistols, the Picatinny Rail is typically an integral part of the pistol grip. In the case of revolvers, the Picatinny Rail is attached directly under the revolver's barrel.
  • The present invention utilizes the Picatinny Rail to mount the present invention base section in the front region of the hand gun and transferring a surface on the side of the hand gun to a thumb pad which offers the shooter a location to apply down forces to limit muzzle rise and felt recoil with the shooter's non-shooting thumb.
  • By applying reciprocating opposing down force on the present invention with the non-shooting hand thumb at the thumb pad, the shooter is able to utilize their non-shooting hand thumb, which normally has little contribution to the shooters grip on the hand gun, in a way that reduces muzzle rise and felt recoil.
  • The object of the present invention is to increase control with the hand gun by using the non-shooting hand thumb to apply additional contact with the hand gun during firing for those hand guns that have a Picatinny Rail mounting location.
  • The present invention can also be integrated with a permanent or removable Picatinny Rail mounting location that mates to the bottom of the present invention to add an additional Picatinny Rail location for other firearm accessories such as lasers or lights to be mounted to the hand gun in conjunction with the present invention.
  • The present invention can be made in a mirror image configuration to accommodate both right and left handed shooters. Right handed shooters, would be mounted with the thumb pad on the left hand side of the hand gun grip for pistols (hand gun frame for revolvers); Left Handed Shooters, would be mounted with the thumb rest on the right hand side of the hand gun grip (hand gun frame for revolvers).

  • FIG. 1. is an example drawing of the present invention from an upper right hand side view. [1] illustrates the arm section which acts like a cantilever transferring down force to allow [2] the thumb pad rest to allow the shooter to place down force on present invention. [6] is the arm brace side which when connected to [3] brace by means of [5] an attachment device in the form of a threaded cross bolt forms [4] which is the area that mounts to underside of the forward pistol grip's Picatinny Rail, or revolvers frame for those revolvers that have a Picatinny Rail. [7] is a the Picatinny Rail that is shown in this embodiment as part of the [6] arm brace to allow addition of other accessories such as lights or lasers attached to the present invention.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention can be made from but is not limited to metallic materials such as Aluminum, or Brass; Injection molded plastic or 3D printer type plastic manufactured materials may also be used to create the present invention.
  • The invention can be manufactured using a CNC type machines, injection molding from a re-useable mold to form the main parts of the invention, or using a 3D printer that creates plastic deposits to form the different parts of the present invention.
  • The arrangement in FIG. 1., FIG. 2., and FIG. 3. illustrate an exemplary arrangement of a preferred embodiment. In FIG. 1., FIG. 2., And FIG. 3., one can visualize how the present invention mounts [4] to the Picatinny Rail of a hand gun with a preferable mounting utilizing a [3] brace on one side, and [6] an arm brace on the other side which the [1] cantilever arm and [2] thumb pad rest residing on the opposite side where the shooters non-shooting hand thumb utilizes the present invention.
  • FIG. 1., FIG. 2., and FIG. 3. illustrate the present invention in a right hand shooter configuration with an [6] arm brace, [1] cantilever arm, and [2] thumb pad on the left hand side of the pistol to allow a right hand Shooter's non-shooting hand a location to place their thumb on the [2] thumb pad rest to provide the reciprocating down forces to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil utilizing the present invention.
  • A mirror image of FIG. 1., FIG. 2., and FIG. 3. would place an [6] arm brace. [1] arm, and [2] thumb pad on the opposite side of the pistol allowing a location for the left handed shooter's non-shooting right hand to place their thumb on the [2] thumb pad rest to provide the reciprocating down forces to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil utilizing the present invention.
  • The present invention is easily detachable from the Picatinny Rail of a pistol by separating the [3] brace and [6] brace arm by removing the [5] detachable device which in the preferred embodiment is a bolt with a threaded end to the [3] brace having a threaded hole allowing a vice effect pulling the [3] brace and [6] arm brace together tightly to the pistol's Picatinny Rail. To remove, loosening of the bolt separates the [3] brace and [6] arm brace to allow removal of the present invention from the pistol's Picatinny Rail.
  • It will thus be seen that the objects set forth above, among those made apparent from the preceding description, are efficiently attained and, because certain changes may be made in carrying out the above method and in the construction(s) set forth without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description and shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
  • It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall there between.

What we claim in our invention for a Pistol Recoil Management System:

2) A hand gun recoil management device that mounts to the Picatinny Rail of a pistol hand gun comprised of a detachable body that allows the shooter to use their non-shooting thumb to apply cantilever reciprocating forces utilizing the Ulnar position of the non-shooting hand to limit muzzle rise and felt recoil of the pistol without additional grip area being added for the remaining portion of the non-shooting hand of the shooter.
