Abstract

A salon cape having sufficient size and shape to substantially cover shoulder, torso, lap feet, and footwear to protect said portions. The cape includes an adjustable collar by use of snap fasteners and a parachute buckle attached by braided elastic for precise fitting around the neck, two clear viewing windows for viewing devices, a second opening for receiving a neck of an individual by use of snap fasteners to allow a child and an adult to share the same cape ensuring the cleanliness of both wearers, and a fold that is flush with the inner surface of the cape to open from a fastened position to fully expand to protect feet and footwear.

Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/957,417 filed on Jul. 2, 2013, and entitled A CUSTOM MADE CAPE HAVING TWO CLEAR VIEWING WINDOWS, BUILT IN PARACHUTE BUCKLE FOR NECK CLOSURE, ZIPPERED FABRIC EXTENDOR FOR PROTECTING FEET AND FOOTWEAR, CONCEALED SNAP BUTTON OPENING FOR CHILDS HEAD TO FIT THROUGH FOR FIRST TIME HAIRCUTS. The specification of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This cape generally relates to the field of barbering and salon protective garments used during a haircut or at a salon during a procedure to protect their skin and clothing from falling products and hair, and more particularly, a cape having sufficient size and shape to substantially cover shoulder, torso, lap portions, and feet or footwear of a wearer to protect said portions, a cape having two clear windows for viewing devices, snap fasteners and a parachute buckle attached by braided elastic for precise tight-fitting neck portion, and a second opening by use of snap fasteners for receiving the head of a child to be positioned on the lap of the wearer having both the wearer and child under the same cape for the child's haircut, ensuring the cleanliness of both, as well as keeping the child still during the procedure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Capes used during a haircut or hairstyling are worn by an individual within a barbershop or hair salon. The customer sits in a chair as the stylist or the barber places the cape over the body of the customer fastening the cape securely around the neck of the client. The material of the cape prevents hair or other materials used during the hairstyling or cutting process from getting on the customer. Presently, people are in constant communication through many devices such as cellular telephones, tablets, laptops, etc. Presently, barbers or stylists come to be in the need of an extra source of closure other than what the cape comes equipped with to fasten the neck portion of the cape precisely on the client. Presently, people are very protective of their footwear, sneakers, shoes, as well as their bare feet. Presently, customers come to be full of hair when they place a young child on their lap who is uncomfortable at a salon or barbershop receiving a haircut, being that the child is the only one wearing a cape at the time of the haircut or styling session. Accordingly, it would be advantageous to provide a barber/stylist a garment such as a cape having a construction that allows a wearer to view, and thus operate a device positioned underneath the protection of the garment, also allowing the arms, hands, and clothing to remain under the protection of the garment as well. Accordingly, it would be advantageous to provide a barber/stylist a garment such as a cape having a construction that allows the barber or stylist to fasten the closure around the neck of the client according to the precise size of the clients' neck. Accordingly, it would be advantageous to provide a barber/stylist a garment such as a cape having a constructed design that allows the wearer to substantially protect their shoulders, torso, lap portions, as well as their feet or footwear while underneath the protection of the garment. Accordingly, it would be advantageous to provide a barber/stylist a garment such as a cape having a construction that allows the wearer to coincide with a young child positioned beneath the same garment, thus protecting both wearer and child from falling hair or debris, while keeping child in a state of comfort while being held on the lap of the wearer.

Advantages

To achieve the foregoing and other aspects and advantages, a salon garment is provided herein including a cape having a collar comprising snap fasteners as well as a built in parachute buckle by use of braided elastic eliminating the purchase of a separate clip to precisely fasten the cape closed around the neck. It will provide a wider and longer length of coverage provided by the garments unique design to ensure the cleanliness of the torso, shoulders, back, feet and footwear. It will provide a second opening by use of snap fasteners in a position corresponding to the waist/lap of the wearer for younger children getting their haircuts. When patrons bring their children to a barbershop or a salon for the first time as well as any time when they are very young, the child will wear the cape and sit down on the lap of the adult to relinquish any fear the child may have by being safe havened by the adult. In these scenarios the adult is left susceptible to falling hair and debris and the child is either crying or irritable. This garment will not only have the standard neck portion adapted to be secured at the top of the neck of the wearer, it will also provide a neck portion adapted to be secured by the neck of a young adolescent located near the lower portion of the garment as well. The garment will protect both the wearer and the child from falling hair and products being that they will both be underneath the same cape. It will provide two clear viewing windows. One viewing window will be located in a position corresponding to about the abdomen of the wearer, for the wearer to view devices and keep up with communications without having to stop the haircut/procedure to bring the device out from underneath the cape. The second viewing window will be located in a position corresponding to the shin of the wearer for an adult to provide entertainment for the child who is on the lap of the wearer to ensure stillness of the child and accuracy of the stylist during a haircut. When clients come in to get their haircut or styled the length of the cape either interferes with clients who are shorter being that the cape will drag once the client is up and about as well as interfere with the taller clients who lack the protection of their footwear and feet when the cape is too short. The garment will provide snap fasteners in a position corresponding to about the waist/lap of the wearer and located at the bottom of the cape that can be left fastened to provide a standard length of coverage or unfastened to provide a full length of coverage to protect the feet or footwear of the client.

SUMMARY

In one aspect, a protective garment is provided herein.
In another aspect, the protective garment is a cape for use in a barbershop, salon, or other application and includes a precise fitting neck portion provided by snap fasteners as well as a parachute buckle attached to the collar by use of braided elastic and a shoulder/full body-covering portion.
In yet another aspect, the garment includes a viewing window constructed from optically clear material in a position corresponding to about the abdomen of the wearer to allow a device to be viewed there through.
In yet another aspect, the garment includes a second opening provided by snap fasteners for receiving a neck of the individual in a position corresponding to about the waist/lap of the wearer to allow a child and an adult to share the same cape.
In yet another aspect, the garment has a longer and wider length of coverage to provide full protection of the shoulders, back, torso, feet, and footwear of the wearer that can be fastened for a standard length of coverage or unfastened by use of snap fasteners to accommodate people of all heights and sizes.
In yet another aspect, the garment includes a second viewing window constructed from optically clear material in a position corresponding to about the shin of the wearer to allow a device to be viewed there through.

FIG. 8 is a detailed view of how the second viewing window located in a position about the shin of the garment can be used for the viewing of devices by the second individual illustrated in FIG. 7.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION FROM THE DRAWINGS

Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference numbers are used herein to designate like elements throughout, the various views and embodiments of a cape designed to provide complete coverage of the shoulders, torso, feet, or footwear; having two clear windows for viewing devices, a collar having snap fasteners and a parachute buckle attached by braided elastic for precise tight-fitting neck closure, a second opening by use of snap fasteners for a child to be positioned on the lap of the wearer having both the wearer and child under the same cape for the child's haircut, ensuring the cleanliness of both wearers, and snap fasteners to be used for changing the length of coverage of the cape to accommodate the various heights of all clients. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate the many possible applications and variations based on the embodiments depicted herein.
Referring now to FIGS. 1-2 Referring specifically to FIG. 1 the protective garment according to various embodiments is illustrated herein. The garment 12 to be utilized by a wearer 100 (not shown) during a procedure, such as at a barbershop or beauty salon during a haircut or other treatment, to protect the wearer from falling hair, debris, and treatment products. The garment 12 also referred to herein as a cape 14 having sufficient size and shape to substantially cover the shoulders, torso, lap portions, and feet from falling hair, debris, and product. The garment 12 is preferably constructed from a durable, draping material such as nylon or other synthetic substrates or natural substrates treated with water repellent materials to provide the aspired characteristics of a protective garment known to those skilled in the art. The cape body portion 30 of the cape 14 has an overall width of 50″, while the lower body portion 40 has an overall width of 35″. The cape 14 has an overall length of 69″ when the snap fasteners 90A and 90B are fastened. The cape 14 has an overall length of 80″ when the snap fasteners 90A and 90B are unfastened as shown in FIG. 2. In alternate implementations, the overall width and length of the cape 14 can be wider or longer. The garment 12 further includes a collar 16 associated with the cape 14 having snap fasteners 70A and 70B and an adjustable parachute buckle fastener 81A and 81B attached to the collar 16 by braided elastic 60C and 60D thereon to provide precise tight-fitting engagement and adjustability of the collar 16 around the neck of the wearer 100 (not shown). The garment 12, as stated earlier materials can vary, so too can the material of the collar 16. As stated above, the garment 12 further includes a viewing window 24 constructed from generally optically clear material positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the collar 16 in a location down on the cape 14 corresponding to about the abdomen of the wearer 100 (not shown), located in the cape body portion 30, such that the communications or other devices can be viewed through the window 24 of the garment 12. The garment 12 further includes a second opening 50 by use of snap fasteners 20A and 20B in a location down on the cape 14 corresponding to about the waist/lap of the wearer. 100, located in the cape body portion, for receiving a neck of an individual to allow a child and an adult to share the same cape, such that both wearers are protected from falling hair and product. There is more particularly illustrated a second viewing window 28 constructed from generally optically clear material positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the snap fasteners 20A and 20B in a position corresponding to about the shin of the wearer 100, located in the lower cape portion 40, such that a device can be viewed through the window 28 for a wearer 100 (not shown) to provide entertainment for a child (not shown) who is on the lap of the wearer 100 (not shown) to ensure stillness of the child (not shown) and accuracy of the stylist/barber during a haircut. FIGS. 1-2 illustrates the garment 12 includes snap fasteners 90B located in the cape body portion 30 positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the snap fasteners 20A and 20B in a position corresponding to about the waste/lap of the wearer 100 (not shown) to provide a standard length of coverage when fastened to the snap fasteners 90A positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the window 28 located in the lower body portion 40 of the garment 12 as illustrated in FIG. 1 and a full length of coverage when snap fasteners 90A and 90B are unfastened as illustrated in FIG. 2, to provide protection of the feet and footwear of the wearer 100 (not shown) when taking their height into consideration. The snap fasteners 90A and 90B can vary from one embodiment to the next. In one embodiment example, the snap fasteners 90A and 90B are mating suitable nickel size 16 7/16″ snap fasteners. In particular, snap fasteners 90A are female snap fasteners that are configured to couple to snap fasteners 90B, which are male snap fasteners. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 90A and 90B can be other elements configured to couple or connect. For example, in alternative embodiments, the snap fasteners 90A and 90B can be Velcro fasteners, ties, buttons, magnets, buckles, or any similar fastening device. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 90A and 90B can be larger or smaller snap fasteners. Just as the snap fasteners 90A and 90B can vary in embodiment, the distance between each snap fastener 90A and 90B can also vary. For example, the individual female snap fasteners 90A and male snap fasteners 90B are positioned 18″ apart from one another. In other embodiments, the distance between the snap fasteners 90A and 90B can be larger or smaller depending on the degree of coveted adjustability, and the type of embodiments employed. Referring specifically to FIG. 1. The cape 14 becomes a standard length when the snap fasteners 90A located in the lower cape portion 40 are folded up behind the lower cape portion 40 and fastened to snap fasteners 90B located in the cape body portion 30 so that the fold is flush with the inner surface of the cape 14 while also covering the second viewing window 28 when not in use. When a wearer 100 (not shown) is receiving a haircut or styling, based on the height of the wearer 100 (not shown), the snap fasteners 90A of the lower cape portion 40 are attached to the snap fasteners 90B of the cape body portion 30. This will permit the lower cape portion 40 to fold up behind the cape body portion 30 to provide a standard length of coverage to prevent the cape from touching the floor once the wearer 100 (not shown) is up and about. Referring specifically to FIG. 2 the snap fasteners 90A and 90B are unfastened displaying the cape 14 fully extended. When the wearer 100 (not shown) wants to protect their feet or footwear during a haircut, from the fastened position, the snap fasteners 90A of the lower cape portion 40 are detached from the snap fasteners 90B of the cape body portion 30. This will permit the lower cape portion 40 to unfold out from behind the cape body portion 30 thereby allowing the lower body portion 40 to fully extend protecting the footwear or feet of the wearer 100 (not shown).
Referring now to FIGS. 3-4 Referring specifically to FIG. 3 the collar 16 including suitable nickel size 16 7/16″ snap fasteners 70A and 70B such that the collar 16 can close around the wearer's 100 neck. As illustrated, the snap buttons 70A and 70B are positioned such that the collar 16 may be used to fasten the cape 14 securely to the body of the wearer 100. The snap fasteners 70A and 70B may alter the size of the opening to accommodate different neck sizes. The snap fasteners 70A and 70B holds the cape around the neck of the wearer 100 enabling the cape to rest on and cover the body of the wearer 100 during a haircut or styling session. The snap fasteners 70A and 70B can vary from one embodiment to the next. In one embodiment example, the snap fasteners 70A and 70B are mating snap fasteners. In particular, snap fasteners 70A are female snap fasteners that are configured to couple to snap fasteners 70B, which are male snap fasteners. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 70A and 70B can be other elements configured to couple or connect the collar 16 to itself around the neck of the wearer 100. For example, in alternative embodiments, the snap fasteners 70A and 70B can be Velcro fasteners, ties, buttons, magnets, buckles, or any similar fastening device. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 70A and 70B can be larger or smaller snap fasteners. Just as the snap fasteners 70A and 70B can vary in embodiment, the distance between each snap fastener 70A and 70B can also vary. For example, the individual female snap fasteners 70A and male snap fasteners 70B are positioned 2″ apart from one another. In other embodiments, the distance between the snap fasteners 70A and 70B can be larger or smaller depending on the degree of coveted adjustability, and the type of embodiments employed. Referring specifically to FIG. 4 the collar 16 including a suitable and conventional 1.25 cm parachute buckle 81A and 81B connected to ½″ wide adjustable braided elastic 60C and 60D thereon to provide precise tight-fitting engagement and adjustability of the collar 16 around the neck of the wearer 100. The collar 16 can close more precisely around the wearer's 100 neck by connecting the parachute buckle 81A and 81B and tightening the braided elastic 60C and 60D such that the collar 16 can be configured to fit any number of different neck sizes to accommodate all types of possible neck sizes to provide a larger degree of collar 16 or smaller degree of the collar 16 adjustability that isn't implemented when only using the snap fasteners 70A and 70B as shown in FIG. 3. Referring specifically to FIG. 4 the parachute buckle 81A and 81B displays the braided elastic 60C and 60D fed through the ends of both 81A and 81B which is sewn into the collar 16 located at the top of the garment 12 to adjust and fasten around the neck of the wearer. The parachute buckle 81A is attached to braided elastic 60C measuring 3″ in length sewn onto the front left side of the collar 16. The parachute buckle 81B is attached to braided elastic 60D measuring 5½″ in length sewn onto the front right side of the collar 16.
Referring now to FIG. 5 the cape 14 to be worn by a person 100 advantageously includes a clear viewing window 24 positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the collar 16 located in a position corresponding to about the abdomen of the wearer 100, located in the cape body portion 30, such that the wearer 100 can comfortably and easily operate a device through the garment 12 and under the protection of the garment 12. The viewing window 24 will provide visual access to a user's personal items (ex: cell phone, book, gaming device, etc.) without sacrificing the protection that the garment 12 provides. The viewing window 24 will allow the wearer 100 to operate a device as well as view communications without having to bring the device outside of the protection of the cape 14, thus protecting any of the exposed skin, clothing, or devices that would normally be susceptible to falling product or hair. The viewing window 24 is constructed from a generally clear and flexible material including but not limiting to, thin flexible plastics that do not allow falling hair or products to pass through. As shown, the window 24 has a generally square shape measuring 10×10 inches or having any dimension sufficient to view the device through the garment 12. Although generally the square viewing window 24 is provided herein, it is envisioned the viewing window 24 may have alternate geometries chosen for either aesthetic or functional reasons. The cape 14 is also shown with the snap fasteners 90A and 90B fastened to provide a standard length of coverage for the wearer 100.
Referring now to FIGS. 6-8 Referring specifically to FIG. 6 the cape 14 to be worn by a person 100 providing suitable nickel size 16 7/16″ snap fasteners 20A and 20B that are shown fastened, to prevent falling hair and product to enter such opening, positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the window 24 in a position corresponding to about the lap of the wearer 100, located in the cape body portion 30. The snap fasteners 20A and 20B can vary from one embodiment to the next. In one embodiment example, the snap fasteners 20A and 20B are mating snap fasteners. In particular, snap fasteners 20A are female snap fasteners that are configured to couple to snap fasteners 20B, which are male snap fasteners. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 20A and 20B can be larger or smaller snap fasteners. In other embodiments, the snap fasteners 20A and 20B can be other elements configured to couple or connect the opening to itself around the neck of the wearer 200 (not shown). For example, in alternative embodiments, the snap fasteners 20A and 20B can be buttons, magnets, buckles, or any similar fastening devices. Just as the snap fasteners 20A and 20B can vary in embodiment, the distance between each snap fastener 20A and 20B can also vary. For example, the individual female snap fasteners 20A and male snap fasteners 20B are positioned 2″ apart from one another. In other embodiments, the distance between the snap fasteners 20A and 20B can be larger or smaller depending on the degree of coveted adjustability, and the type of embodiments employed. The cape 14 is also shown with the snap fasteners 90A and 90B fastened to provide a standard length of coverage for the wearer 100. Referring specifically to FIG. 7 the second opening 50 measuring 11 inches in length and 11 inches in width when unfastened for receiving a neck of an individual 200 in a position corresponding to about the waist/lap of the wearer 100, located in the cape body portion 30, by use of snap fasteners 20A and 20B to allow a child 200 and an adult 100 to share the same cape ensuring the cleanliness of both wearers. The wearer 100 will have the cape 14 secured on by the collar 16. The child 200 will sit on the lap of the wearer 100, the snap fasteners 20A and 20B will unfasten the opening 50 to be placed over the child's 200 head and the snap fasteners 20A and 20B will be fastened around the child's 200 neck for tight-fitting engagement, thus having both the wearer 100 and the child 200 underneath the same cape 14, protecting both from falling hair and product. In other embodiments, the second opening 50 can be larger or smaller for either aesthetic or functional reasons. The cape 14 is shown with the snap fasteners 90A and 90B unfastened to provide full coverage and the protection of the wearers 100 feet or footwear. Referring specifically to FIG. 8 the cape 14 to be worn by a wearer 100 and a child 200 advantageously includes a clear viewing window 28 positioned in a spaced-apart relation from the snap fasteners 20A and 20B located in a position corresponding to about the shin of the wearer 100, located in the lower cape portion 40, such that the child 100 can comfortably and easily operate a device through the garment 12 and under the protection of the garment 12. The viewing window 28 is constructed from a generally clear and flexible material including but not limiting to, thin flexible plastics that do not allow falling hair or products to pass through. As shown, the window 28 has a generally square shape measuring 10×10 inches or having any dimension sufficient to view the device through the garment 12 having any dimension sufficient to view the device through the garment 12. Although generally a square viewing window 28 is provided herein, it is envisioned the viewing window 28 may have alternate geometries chosen for either aesthetic or functional reasons. The viewing window 28 will provide visual access to a user's personal items (ex: cell phone, book, gaming device, etc.) without sacrificing the protection that the garment 12 provides. The viewing window 28 will allow the wearer 100 to operate a device providing entertainment for an unhappy and restless child 200 without having to bring the device outside of the protection of the cape 14, thus protecting any of the exposed skin, clothing, or devices that would normally be susceptible to falling product or hair. The viewing window 28 enables the wearer 100 the ability to entertain the child 200 while the child 200 sits on the lap of the wearer 100 while both underneath the same cape 14. The viewing window 28 allows the wearer 100 to provide the child 200 entertainment such as viewing a cartoon, playing a game on any device, and reading books to keep the child 200 occupied while the stylist/barber cuts or styles the child's 200 hair ensuring stillness of the child 200 for complete accuracy and an overall better experience when visiting the salon or barbershop.
By using the above-described 2 in 1 salon cape having clear viewing windows, a barber or stylist may periodically wash their cape without damaging the windows. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art having the benefit of this disclosure that this 2 in 1 salon cape with viewing windows will provide. It should be understood that the drawings and detailed description herein are to be regarded in an illustrative rather than a restrictive manner, and are not intended to be limiting to the particular forms and examples disclosed. On the contrary, included are any further modifications, changes, rearrangements, substitutions, alternatives, design choices, and embodiments apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, without departing from the spirit and scope hereof, as defined by the following claims. Thus, it is intended that the following claims be interpreted to embrace all such further modifications, changes, rearrangements, substitutions, alternatives, design choices, and embodiments.

Claims

1. A salon cape, comprising:

a cape having sufficient size and shape to substantially cover shoulder, torso, lap portions, feet and footwear of a wearer to protect said portions;

a collar associated with the cape and having adjustable snap fasteners and and a parachute buckle to provide tight-fitting engagement of the collar around the neck of the wearer;

a cape body portion;

a viewing window constructed from generally optically clear material positioned in spaced-apart relation from the collar in a location down on the cape corresponding to about the abdomen of the wearer, located in the cape body portion such that communications and devices can viewed through the garment;

snap fasteners in a spaced-apart relation from the opening located down on the cape in a position corresponding to about the waste/lap of the wearer to provide a standard length of coverage when fastened taking the height of the wearer into consideration;

a lower cape portion;

a second viewing window constructed from generally optically clear material positioned in spaced-apart relation from the opening in a location down on the cape corresponding to about the shin of the wearer, located in the lower cape portion such that communications and devices can be viewed through the garment for the wearer to keep a child entertained by watching a cartoon or playing a game;

snap fasteners in a spaced-apart relation from the second viewing window located down on the cape in a position corresponding to about the waste/lap of the wearer to provide a full length of coverage when unfastened to protect the wearers feet and footwear from falling hair and products;

2. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the cape is constructed from a durable, draping material.

3. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the collar including snap fasteners and an adjustable parachute buckle for securing the cape around differing size necks of an individual.

4. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the viewing windows are sewn into the cape body portion and the lower cape portion.

5. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the viewing windows have a generally square shape.

6. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the generally optically clear material prevents falling hair and hair products from passing there through.

7. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the communications device is either a cellular phone, laptop, tablet, or book.

8. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the cape includes snap fasteners for adjusting the length of the cape.

9. A salon cape for protecting one or two individuals receiving a haircut at the same time comprising:

an opening associated with the cape having snap fasteners in spaced-apart relation from the viewing window down on the cape located in the top cape portion to provide an adult the ability to coincide with a child underneath the same garment by having the child sit on the adults lap; the opening is then placed over the child's head and fastened to provide tight-fitting engagement, while the rest of the cape is draped over the adult and secured by fastening the collar to provide the protection of both the child and the adult from faking hair and product while the child feels safe havened as well by the adult;

10. The garment according to claim 9, wherein the cape defines a second opening for receiving a neck of an individual.
