Abstract
A dual portion blanket comprising: a first portion, where said first portion includes a double layer of blanketing; and a second portion, where said second portion includes a single layer of blanketing. In one particular embodiment, the first portion includes a side opening on each thereof.
Description
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to a blanket that includes an extra layer of blanketing at a portion thereof to provide additional warmth for the user.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- A blanket relates to a piece of bedding usually a large piece of cloth that is intended to provide additional cover for a user while sleeping in a bed. Blankets may also be used for covering in other situations such as sitting in a chair or lying on a couch, however blankets are primarily used as bedding material. Blankets are used for their warmth and ability to provide insulation from a cool environment. Blankets are traditionally made of wool although cotton and linen blankets are available for use along with other synthetic fibers.
- One of the primary purposes of a blanket is to keep warmth within the user's body and to cover the skin from exposure to a cool environment. Blankets are usually made of a single layer of cloth, which may vary in thickness and stitching in order to accommodate the needs of the user. Although a single layer of blanket is suitable in most instances, it would be desirable to have a multi-layered or a dual-layered blanket where the warmth capabilities may be enhanced in a portion of the blanket as opposed to a opposing or related portion of the blanket.
- The present invention includes a dual portion blanket comprising: a first portion, where said first portion includes a double layer of blanketing; and a second portion, where said second portion includes a single layer of blanketing. In one particular embodiment, the first portion includes a side opening on each thereof.
-
FIG. 1 depicts a blanket with an extra layer of blanketing according to the present invention. - The present invention relates to a blanket that includes an extra pocket layer of protection at a portion of the blanket so that additional warmth may be provided at one end of the blanket if desired by a user. The extra layer of blanketing may be implemented by the user near the head portion of the body or near the foot portion of the body when using the blanket. This extra layer allows the user to have greater warmth at a portion of the blanket as desired to keep feet or shoulder areas warmer when using the blanket.
- In reference to
FIG. 1 , ablanket 20 according to the present invention is depicted. Theblanket 20 includes an extra layer portion at one end of the blanket as depicted at extra layer 24. The extra layer 24 provides additional blanketing for the user at one end of theblanket 20. Beyond the extra layer 24 is the main portion 25 of the blanket. The main portion 25 of the blanket is a single layer of blanketing comparable to the standard style and sizes of blanket. The extra layer 24 provides additional blanketing for the user to keep shoulders or feet warm in a colder environment when using a blanket. - Also shown in
FIG. 1 is a top end 23 and bottom end 27. Extending from the top end 23 to the bottom end 27 are 26, 28, which essentially define the boundaries of thesides blanket 20. Also depicted is a border 21 which lies between the extra layer 24 and the main portion 25 which essentially defines a demarcation between the additional blanketing layer 24 and the conventional blanketing provided in the main portion 25. The extra layer 24 extends between thesides 26 andside 28. During use this extra layer 24 may be utilized as shown where the top end 23 is provided near the user's upper torso head portion therefore providing extra warmth in this area for the user. Alternatively theblanket 20 may be inverted where the extra layer 24 is provided near the user's lower limbs in particular the foot area wherein the top end 23 is reversed or inverted. When inverted the extra layer 24 provides warmth for the foot portion of the user's body. The extra layer 24 extends between the 26, 28 and is configured for use to provide extra layers for either the upper torso or lower limbs of the user.sides - The extra layer 24 includes side openings 22 a, 22 b. The side openings 22 a, 22 b form a pocket in conjunction with the extra layer 24. Consequently, the user may position the blanket in a suited position by using the pocket area. Use of the
blanket 20 according to the present invention enables the user to allow the body to move more freely under the single layer of blanketing and then provide additional warmth with the extra layer 24. Therefore the greater warmth of the blanket could be concentrated under the extra layer 24. The side openings 22 a,22 b provide a means for the insertion of a heating pad or ice pack.
