Description
- This application is closely related to and claims benefit from U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 60/983,693 filed Oct. 30, 2007.
- The present invention relates, in general, to a retractable seat cover system, and, more particularly, the present invention relates to a seat cover system that can be installed on virtually any item having a seat.
- Golfers love to hit the course early in the morning. Many find that the seat of the golf cart is damp with dew that has settled overnight. Without planning for this moisture, some use the hand to wipe away the moisture while others simply sit down on the wet seat. This can be an uncomfortable way to begin to play. Boaters commonly board a vessel that has a wet seat. Motorcycle riders and ATV enthusiasts, as well as the golfers or boaters, sometimes encounter a rain shower during their round or their trip and unless they have a proper way to dry the seat they must endure this wet seat.
- Thus, it would be advantageous if there were a simple means of effectively covering a seat of such vehicle easily and thus ensuring a dry seat.
- In a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an apparatus for providing a dry seat in a variety of vehicles. The apparatus comprises an elongated housing member having a predetermined shape. A seat cover is disposed as a roll within the elongated housing member. Such seat cover having a first side formed of a first predetermined material and a second side formed of a second predetermined material. An opening is disposed on one side of the elongated housing member for permitting such seat cover to be extended out of the elongated housing member so as to cover a seat in such variety of vehicles.
- It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present invention to provide an apparatus that will simply and effectively cover a seat on a variety of vehicles so as to provide a dry seat.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that covers seat of a variety of vehicles that is easy to install.
- Still another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that provides a retractable roll out cover for a seat of such vehicle.
- Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus that covers a seat that is already wet and can be utilized as a method of protection when applied prior to a rain.
- In addition to the various objects and advantages of the invention which have been described in some specific detail above it should be noted that various other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description, particularly when such description is taken in conjunction with the appended claims.
-
FIG. 1 is a side perspective view of the apparatus showing the seat cover coming out of the housing. -
FIG. 2 is a front perspective view of the apparatus shown inFIG. 1 with the seat cover retracted. -
FIG. 3 is a side perspective view of a golf cart with a seat cover of the present invention over the seat. -
FIG. 4 is front perspective view of a boat with the seat cover of the present invention covering the seats. -
FIG. 5 is a side perspective view of a motorcycle with the seat cover of the present invention covering the seat. - Prior to proceeding with the more detailed description of the present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity, identical components which have identical functions have been designated by identical reference numerals throughout the several views illustrated in the drawings.
- In a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an apparatus, generally designated 10, for providing a dry seat in a variety of vehicles. The
apparatus 10 comprises anelongated housing member 2 having a predetermined shape. Aseat cover 4 is disposed as a roll within theelongated housing member 2.Such seat cover 4 having afirst side 6 formed of a first predetermined material and asecond side 8 formed of a second predetermined material. An opening 9 is disposed on one side of theelongated housing member 2 for permittingsuch seat cover 4 to be extended out of theelongated housing member 2 so as to cover a seat in such variety of vehicles. -
Such apparatus 10 includes ameans 20 disposed in theelongated housing member 2 for retracting theseat cover 4. Such retracting means is similar to a roller shade in which the cover can be pulled out from the housing for use and retracted when not needed. It is also presently preferred thatsuch seat cover 4 have ahandle member 18 on the end of thecover 4 so as make it easy to pull theseat cover 4 out from theelongated housing member 2 and also to prevent the seat cover from being retracted completely into thehousing member 2. - The opening 9 in the
housing member 2 includes asqueegee 16 disposed thereon so as to wipe theseat cover 4 dry as it is retracted into theelongated housing member 2. - Such first predetermined material is selected from a group comprising plastic, rubber, fabric and combinations thereof. It is presently preferred that such predetermined material is fabric for the user to sit on.
- Such second predetermined material is selected from a group comprising plastic, rubber, and combinations thereof. It is presently preferred that such second predetermined material is plastic and such plastic is one that does not permit water to pass through. The plastic material is placed on a seat portion of such variety of vehicles.
Such seat cover 4 is designed to remain on such seat portion of such variety of vehicles for a duration of use. - The
elongated housing member 2 further includes a plurality ofventilation holes 14 disposed at predetermined locations on thehousing member 2 for permitting theseat cover 4 to continue drying while inside theelongated housing member 2. Such predetermined locations include a bottom portion and a side portion of theelongated housing member 2. - Such
elongated housing member 2 further includes ameans 12 disposed on theelongated housing member 2 for securing theelongated housing member 2 to such variety of vehicles. The securing means 12 includes one of at least twobrackets 12 and twohooks 12 disposed on a predetermined portion of theelongated housing member 2. - It should be noted that such variety of vehicles includes but is not limited to at least one of a golf cart, a motorcycle, a boat, an all terrain vehicle, a riding lawn mower and a tractor. Also, it is presently preferred that such predetermined shape of said elongated housing member is substantially rectangular. Although it is within the scope of the invention that
such housing member 2 could have a different shape. - Thus, the present invention provides an apparatus for instantly providing a dry seat in which to sit in a variety of vehicles. The apparatus is made in a manner similar to a roller shade in that it can be pulled out of a housing for use and retracted into the housing when not needed. The housing has several brackets or hooks disposed thereon for easy installation on such vehicle. There is an opening on one side of the housing which allows the seat cover to feed outward and to retract. The cover has a fabric material disposed on the top side for the user to sit on and a plastic material on the bottom portion which is placed on a damp seat. The opening in the housing features a squeegee disposed thereon that wipes the cover dry as it is retracted into the housing. There are some ventilation holes on the side of the housing to permit the cover to continue to dry in the retracted position. These seat covers are made to remain in place during the duration of use. Such seat covers can be made in a variety of sizes to fit the different size seats of such variety of vehicles.
- While a presently preferred embodiment and alternate embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail above, it should be understood that various other adaptations and/or modifications of the invention can be made by those persons who are particularly skilled in the art without departing from either the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
