Abstract

A protective apparel to be worn when changing clothing comprising: (a) a rayon silk blend or other smooth cloth material in an elongated oval shape with a continuation of the cloth into extended arms to the left and right to be used to tie the apparel around the neck, (b) the apparel is manufactured in one piece, (c) the apparel is adaptable to be worn either 1) tied around the neck of the wearer with the body of the garment covering the head and face from back to front or 2) tied around the neck with the body of the garment covering the chest like a bib.

1. Field of Invention
This invention relates to garment, hair and make-up protection while dressing and undressing.

2. Description of Prior Art
Clothiers and consumers experience loss, damage and inconvenience due to garments being soiled while dressing and undressing. Although protective devices have been patented, it is rare that department or clothing store dressing rooms come equipped with them. It is rare to find these devices for sale to consumers.
Garment protectors: U.S. Pat. No. 5,287,650 to Garcia, U.S. Pat. No. 4,722,100 to Greer, U.S. Pat. No. 4,887,316 to Morandini, U.S. Pat. No. 5,864,887 to Kozawa and U.S. Pat. No. 4,698,853 to Walton are described as hoods. U.S. Pat. No. 4,665,567 to Dilger is described as a mask.
Most protectors employ closures such as zipper, Velcro, tape or hook. These closures are likely to catch on clothing during a change.
Additionally the cited protectors are made of loosely woven material making them more likely that buttons, hooks or zippers on garments could be caught on the protector during a change inconveniencing the user. Further, the design of most protectors do not appear to be cost effective for clothiers to provide to customers.

SUMMARY

The clothing, hair and make-up protector presented here minimizes loss and damage to clothing, protects against smearing of make-up during a change of clothing and protects the user's hair from being disheveled during a change of clothing.

OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGES

Several objects and advantages of the present invention are:
(a) to provide a protection against soiling clothing with make-up, hair oils or hair coloring during changes;
(b) to provide a protector which would hold hair in place and prevent entanglement;
(c) to provide a protector which uses present manufacturing technology;
(d) to design a protector without complicating closures such as zippers, Velcro, tape or hook;
(e) to provide a protector that can be worn covering the head and face;
(f) to provide a protector that can be put on or taken off with ease;
(g) to provide a protector whose construction minimizes the likelihood of being caught on buttons, hooks, zippers, sequins, lace, and so forth during a change;
(h) to provide a protector which is inexpensive to produce, even disposable;
(i) to provide a protector that is easy to carry, dispense or have available at any time;
(j) to provide a protector which is easily washed, dried and stored.

A preferred embodiment of the clothing, hair and make-up protector is illustrated in the figures presented. The protector is an expanse of smooth materiel hemmed with fine thread 14. An appropriate readily available materiel is a rayon/silk blend.

Additional Embodiments

The clothing, hair and make-up protector can be manufactured in various colors or be multi-colored and could incorporate designs or logos. It can be manufactured inexpensively and could be specialized for bridal shops, dress shops, department stores or any other place or occasion where a change of clothes is likely.

Advantages

From the descriptions above, a number of advantages of the clothing, hair and make-up protector are evident:
(a) This protector can prevent or cut losses due to stains from make-up, hair oils, gels and coloring while trying on or changing clothing.
(b) This protector can fold into a tiny case or pouch to be conveniently carried in pocket or purse.
(c) This protector can be easily manufactured with existing technology.
(d) This protector can hold hair in place and prevent entanglements.
(e) This protector has no attached closures such as zippers, Velcro, or hooks.
(f) This protector can be put on and taken off with ease.
(g) The smooth close weave construction of the protector greatly lessens the possibility of being caught on zippers, hooks, lace, sequins and other adornments on a garment.
(h) This protector can be manufactured inexpensively, even made to be disposable, and dispensed to the consumer.
(i) This protector can be personalized with colors, logos and such as desired by the consumer.
(j) This protector can be laundered and stored easily.

Operation

The wearer of the protector ties the protector around the neck using the left 10L and right 10R tie and then folds the elongated oval head cover 12 over the head from back to front (FIGS. 1A, 1B).

CONCLUSIONS, RAMIFICATIONS AND SCOPE

The clothing, hair and make-up protector is an inexpensive way to protect clothing from soiling during changes whether from make-up, hair oils, gels or coloring. Clothiers suffer losses from soiled garments which have to be cleaned, discounted or discarded. Consumers suffer embarrassment and inconvenience from soiled garments, smeared make-up and mussed hair.
The protector may be manufactured inexpensively allowing clothiers to dispense one to each customer taking garments to a dressing room.
The protector may be folded and stored in a convenient pouch or case for transport in a pocket or purse.
The protector is made of smooth cloth over which garments move with ease.
The construction reduces the likelihood of the protector being caught on zippers, hooks, buttons, lace, sequins and so forth during a change.
The protector can be manufactured easily with existing technology.
The protector is easily laundered and stored.
The protector can be easily taken off and put on again between changes.
The protector can be made in colors and with embellishment such as logos or other personalizations.

Claims

1. A protective apparel to be worn when changing clothes comprising: (a) a rayon silk blend or other smooth cloth material of a predetermined size and shape (b) the apparel is manufactured in one piece (c) the apparel is adaptable to be worn either 1) tied around the neck of the wearer with the body of the garment covering the head and face from back to front or 2) tied around the neck with the body of the garment covering the chest like a bib.

2. The apparel of claim 1 wherein the edging is protected by a sewn hem.

3. The apparel of claim 1 wherein manufacturing is in sizes for single purpose, dual purpose or multi-purpose use.

4. The apparel of claim 1 whereby manufacture provides personalizations, and/or embellishments.

5. The apparel is an elongated oval shape with a continuation of the cloth into extended arms to the left and right to be used to tie the apparel around the neck.
