Description

  • This application claims priority to Turkish Utility Model Application No.: 2006/3814, filed on Jul. 20, 2006, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference.
  • SUMMARY Structural Sky Roof
  • This invention is related to a large-scale constructional roof which is applied like an umbrella over the structure complexes made of one or more different structures in order to set up a block against all negative factors originating from the sky.
  • DESCRIPTION Structural Sky Roof
  • This invention concerns a structural sky roof which allows structure complexes composed of one or several houses, parks, gardens, playgrounds, sports fields, shopping malls, parking lots, school-like structures to be protected against all adverse atmospheric effects originating from the sky and which covers all those structures almost like an umbrella.
  • In more detail, it is constructed when frame web (4) composed of steel wire ropes (3) placed on 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 steel columns or more (1) and mast (7) which are anchored to the earth depending on the size of the area to be protected covered by a fabric (5) made of a material picked from synthetic, glass-reinforced fibre derivatives (PVC, PTFE membrane). The application is in the form of an umbrella based on steel column (2) anchored at specific intervals around the area to be protected so that all adverse atmospheric effects originating from the sky are blocked.
  • Known Status of the Technique:
  • Today some tent, canvas and awning applications however, these applications are set up on very restricted spaces due to their structural characteristics, and are rather used to create an indoor area or to soften the harshness of the sunlight. These products which largely block the angle of view in those spaces where they are applied are not also suitable for revision for various alternative applications depending on the needs for space.
  • Large-scale applications carried out so far by using similar techniques are rather for public spaces such as stadiums, concert areas, airports; the roofs of these buildings are supported by walls. Furthermore applications in these areas are not fit and suitable for housing projects.
  • In addition, applications that use the technique in its known form are fragile against adverse weather conditions harm to human beings in the surrounds because their flexibility and strength are weak.
  • The sky roof, the object of the invention, on the other hand, not only offers a solution to negative aspects described above but also is applicable to very wide areas thanks to frame structure, thus responding to the needs for different uses of the respective space.
  • The sky roof, the object of the invention, easily cover and extend to an area of 22000 m2 thanks to a frame (4) web composed of steel wire ropes (3), a mast (7) situated at the centre of this structure, and more than one column (1) that extending to the perimeter of the structure. The height of the steel column (2) are at such level that will not block the visibility of the area.
  • The sky roof allows for various alternative arrangements or layouts based on the need for use in addition to the protection offered by it for the space it covers against atmospheric factors such as sun lights, snow, rain etc. One of these uses is that the roof may function as a climatizator for heating or chilling the space thanks to a ventilation system at an adequate size installed to the steel skeleton (4).
  • Another alternative way of use is to add various illuminative units shedding light from floor to dome of the roof (6) or from dome (6) to the floor, and thus to ensure the illumination of the space and to organize lightshows if and when necessary.
  • Another alternative way of use is that this roof allows for sprinkling irrigation in the space with the use of light water pipes to be laid down insure the steel wire ropes (3) that form the frame structure (4) of the roof so that it is very useful for greenhouse business, popular in specific geographical regions in our country.
  • A further alternative way of use is to ensure that thanks to security cameras to be installed both to steel columns (2) and to the mast (7), a broad area shall be under monitor.
  • In addition, the sky roof developed under the invention is a highly flexible structure with a high level of strength thanks to its frame composed of steel wire ropes (3) and steel columns (2) which makes it different from certain applications with known technique and in use. For this reason, it is highly more durable against storms, earthquakes winds and similar conditions.
  • Following this chapter, the invention shall be described in more detail with reference to the attached pictures. In said pictures:
  • FIG. 1—The image of the invented sky roof when it is applied to a single structure; and
  • FIG. 2—The image of the invented sky roof when it is applied to multiple structures are presented.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • As it can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2 where various applications are presented, the steel frame of the sky roof is composed of steel columns in various numbers (1) depending on the size of the area to be protected which are anchored to the ground, further steel columns (1) which extend over the former ones (2) and a frame web (4) composed of steel wire ropes (3) erected on these steel columns (2).
  • Great attention is paid to the fact that the intervals between the steel wire ropes (3) shall be at such frequency that the covering material (5) shall not deform for long years to come. Just in the middle of the structure, a mast (7) which shall be used for ensuring strength as well as for the maintenance of the structure. The structural roof is completed when the frame web (4) is covered by a fabric (5) made of a material to be picked from synthetic, fiber/glass and fiber derivatives (PVC, PTFE etc membrane). The structure's upper part (6) which stands high via steel columns (2) appears as a conical dome.
  • The invention applied to a single structure or a complex made of multiple structures as described above protects the area against atmospheric factors such as sunlight, snow, rain etc. Thus, freedom of movement of people, in particular, children and elderly people are greatly enhanced everyday sports activities and become a fun time at any hour of the day even in such geographical regions with a hot climate. As the water lost by the plants will fall under the roof, the planting, grassing and flowering works effortlessly and less costly.
  • Notwithstanding this fact, the life of the buildings covered by the roof are longer and the costs of periodic maintenance and repair works and climatization expenses spent for the buildings (chilling-heating) substantially decrease.
  • Attention is paid to the fact that a photo-catalytic chemical does exist in the membrane (5) used as coating material and by this means, it is ensured that the membrane(S) shall self-clean and reject dirt under all atmospheric conditions. Membrane units (5) connected to the frame web (4) independent of each other may be replaced whenever required.
  • Thanks to steel columns in various numbers (1) (such as 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12) based on the area and size of the protected area, an area of 22000 m2 easily covered by this type of sky roof. Thanks to the sufficient level of height of the steel columns (2), the visibility of the area as well as pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic are not affected from the roof at all. Therefore it is easily applied to a pre-built settlement area. Besides, the stack system in the conic structure (6) above the ground allows the raise of the air heated in the area and evicted.
  • Because the sky roof is well above the ground, it is suitable for the entry and exit as well as the operation of the heavy-duty machines and in this form it may be easily applied to construction sites which should be under protection. Thus there is nothing impeding the construction of a new building under the dome.
  • As it was mentioned before, the sky roof developed under the invention allows various alternative applications depending on how the area is used, in addition to its protection of structures in the area covered by it against atmospheric factors. These alternative applications are described below in detail:
  • Climatization
  • Thanks to ventilation systems in sufficient size attached to the membrane steel frame web (4), the area is heated or chilled based on the need.
  • Lighting
  • When lighting units are attached which are pointing towards the dome (6) of the roof from the ground or to the ground from the dome (6), the area may be illuminated and laser shows may be organized based on the needs.
  • Irrigation
  • In particular, in greenhouse business popular in our certain geographical areas, sprinkling irrigation may be applied to the area with light irrigation pipes attached to the steel wire ropes (3)
  • Security
  • Thanks to security cameras installed both to the mast (7) and the steel columns (2) around the membrane, the area is under constant surveillance to ensure that security of large-size public areas protected by the sky roof under invention.
  • Consequently, the sky roof developed under the invention ensures, thanks to its main body, a protection against all atmospheric factors in the area covered by it, support units referred to in the section where alternative application areas of the invention are described (irrigation, lighting, security and climatization units) largely boost and improve the living conditions.
