- This invention relates to an attachment for use with a handheld jackhammer to mechanically dig a trench into the ground.
- Digging a trench into the ground can be a very labor intensive job using a shovel and pick. It would be beneficial to have a device that could be used with a handheld jackhammer to dig a trench of your required width for your job application.
- Said device would, with the use of a handheld jackhammer, dig out “plugs” of dirt, leaving a trench in the ground. Other devices that would be able to dig a trench are very large and unable to be operated in small spaces such as a basement. Therefore, being handheld and portable would be an advantage in many applications.
- Various types of handheld jackhammer attachments are known in the art. Typical of these devises is the “Stake/Post Driver for Use With Handheld Jackhammer” is detailed n U.S. Pat. No. 6,347,672, dated Feb. 19, 2002, to Patrick Reardon. The device is a hammer assembly including a hammer element configured to strike the upper portion of the stake or post coupled to the handheld Jackhammer to mechanically drive a stake or post into the ground. This devise does not have the capability to dig a trench to install piping under the ground.
- An object of this invention is to provide a new and improved trenching jackhammer attachment which is capable of digging out “plugs” of dirt, leaving a trench in the ground.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a new and improved trenching jackhammer attachment in which the “plugs” of dirt can be easily lifted out of the hole and later replaced if needed. This would enable faster, easier trenching, especially when grass covered “plugs” can be replaced to eliminate the need for new seeding over work area.
- These and other objects of the invention are provided in a new and improved trenching jackhammer attachment which includes a preferred embodiment, a rear panel with sharpened teeth to cut into the ground, two side panels also with sharpened teeth and a shaft attached to the rear panel by which the trenching jackhammer attachment is attached to a handheld jackhammer.
- The following detailed description illustrates the invention by way of example and not by way of limitation. This description will clearly enable one skilled in the art to make and use the invention.
- Referring to Figs. I and II of the drawings, a preferred embodiment of the trenching jackhammer attachment is generally illustrated by
reference numeral 1. The trenchingjackhammer attachment 1 is comprised of arear panel 2 made with sharpened teeth to cut into the ground; and 2side panels 3 and 4 also with sharpened teeth. Saidrear panel 2 andside panels 3 and 4 are attached at right angles to each other. Ashaft 5 is attached torear panel 2 by which the trenching jackhammer attachment is attached to a handheld jackhammer. - It will be appreciated by those skilled in this area that the trenching jackhammer attachment offers a practical, portable and efficient device for digging a trench in the ground. This devise could be used in many applications, including but not limited to, trenching for new house plumbing in basement, trenching for electrical lines, cable line and irrigation systems. This devise is also applicable for all other types of work where trenching is needed.
- As various changes could be made in the above constructions without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
- It is also understood that the contained descriptions are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall there between.
Claims (6)
1. A trenching jackhammer attachment, for use with a handheld jackhammer, to mechanically dig a trench into the ground.
2. A trenching jackhammer attachment of claim 1 comprising of a rear panel, 2 side panels attached at right angles to the rear panel and a shaft attached to the rear panel.
3. A trenching jackhammer attachment of claim 1 where said rear panel is made with sharpened teeth to enable it to cut into the ground.
4. A trenching jackhammer attachment of claim 1 where said side panels, also made with sharpened teeth, are attached at right angles to the rear panel.
5. A trenching jackhammer attachment of claim 1 where said shaft if attached to the rear panel by which the trenching jackhammer attachment is attached to a handheld jackhammer.
6. A trenching jackhammer attachment of claim 1 where said trenching jackhammer attachment is attached at a handheld jackhammer enable the operator to mechanically dig out “plugs” of dirt, leaving a trench in the ground.
