This invention relates to an improved ash-pot made of metal plate, which consists in attaching by a hinge a semi-circular lid and the lower portion of a pail-shaped front plate to the upper and lower portions of a back plate having bent edges at both sides respectively, said lid having a semicylindrical edge bent downward; and providing at the bottom of said lid an ash receiver formed at a part of a spherical surface; making outlet for ashes at the bottom of said ash receiver; pivoting by means of a pin to the outer surface of the upper portion of the ash receiver a revolving shutter tted closely to its bottom, projecting a knob at one end of the shutter from a hole cut on the lid and fastening to the pin a spring with its ends secured to the shutter and the back of the lid respectively. The object thereof is to obtain an ash-pot easily attachable to any desired walls of automobiles and other kinds of vehicles and rooms which can prevent room air from being spoiled by tobacco smoke and smell by closing its lid perfectly when an unextinguished cigarette stub is put in it and which also enables ashes to be removed easily by unfastening its front plate.

In the drawing, I is a main body made of metal plate, consisting in combination of a back plate 2 having bent edges at both sides and a pail-l shaped front plate 3. 4 is a lid tted to the main body; 5, a hinge for connecting the pail-shaped front plate and the semi-circular lid 4 to the lower and upper parts of the back plate respectively; 6, an indentation for attaching together the back plate 2, front plate 3 and lid 4 when they are .folded one upon another at the hinge;

and l, an ash receiver having its bottom formed at a part of a spherical surface. 8 is an ash outlet at the bottom of the ash-receiver; and 9, a revolving semi-circular shutter having both ends attached to the outer surface of the upper portion of the ash receiver l and also having a knob at one end which projects from a hole cut at the upper part of the lid, the Whole having an arcshape so as to be tted to the spherical surface of the ash receiver 1. `|0 is pin for supporting the revolving shutter; Il, a spring with its ends secured to the shutter 9 and the back of the lid 4 respectively; and I2, a hole through which the back plate 2 is screwed fixedly to the side wall. According to this invention, a receptacle is formed by folding one upon the other the back plate 2 and pail-shaped front plate connected together by a hinge, fixing them together by engagement with an indentation, covering them with the lid 4 connected therewith by a hinge a'nd then connecting all together by engagement with the indentation. The outlet is opened by pressing the shutter 9 with a finger to drop ashes into the main body and the surface of the shutter 9 is kept clean by scratching with the back of the ash receiver l. By a spring the shutter is restored to the original position and at the same time is kept from shaking.

What is claimed is,

An ash tray comprising a back plate having bent edges, a semi-circular lid pivotally attached to the upper end of the back plate, said lid having a semi-cylindrical edge and a downwardly inclined chute positioned inwardly of the edge, a pivotally mounted, spring operated closure forming a continuation of the chute in its closed or normal position and having a knob projecting through said lid, and a front plate pivotally con- -nected to the lower end of said back plate and adapted to be engaged beneath the edge of said lid.
