Description

- P. LeROY SENOUR. Globe for Street-Lamps.
No. 200,473. Patent ed Feb. 19,1878.

ATTEIFQNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
FAUNT LE ROY SENOUR, OE PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOBES FOR STREET-LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,473, dated February 19, 1878; application filed 'January 15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FAUNT LE ROY SENOUR, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflecting- Globes for Street-Lamps; and'I' do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to certain improvements in reflecting shades and globes for streetlamps and other purposes; and the invention consists in a glass globe or lantern of peculiar construction, provided with reflecting-shades, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and arrangement, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section through the globe and reflectors.
A' represents the chimney or globe, which may be made in any suitable shape. This globe is provided with two extensions, B, upon which reflectors (J and D, of any desired construction, are placed. These reflectors may be made of glass, as shown, or of separate'pieces of glass fitted in a suitable frame that will fit on the extension B, or of any other suitable material, and may have corrugated or plain reflecting-surfaces, as desired. When the reflectors are made of glass they are filled or partly filled with cement or any other suitable material, to protect the silvering from oxidizin g by the moisture in the air, or being affected by the heat and smoke of the gas or lamp, as the case may be.
A flange, E, is formed at the top of the lower extension B, to prevent rain from getting down into the reflector D. This flange E also serves as a rest for supporting the globe A upon said reflector D.
A metal cap is placed on top of the reflector O, to prevent rain and wind from going down into the globe A. This cap may be of any desired construction, and secured in any suitable manner to the projection F of said reflector O.
The bottom of the reflector D is provided with a projection, G, for securing the same to a suitable bracket at the top of a lamp-post.
It is obvious that the manner of attachment to the lamp-post may be such that the reflectors and, globe can be readily removed when desired.
Either of the reflectors may be dispensed with when desired. When only one reflector is used the globe is provided with only one extension, B.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A globe for a street-lamp, constructed with an extension, B, and grooved flange E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the globe A, provided with a flange, E, and extensions B, with the reflectors G and D, having projections F and G, all constructed and arranged substantially in the manner shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FAUNT LE ROY SEN OUR.
