,--Owingto the loose iit of said rod within the bore. which it occupies an airvent is provided therearound vwhich prevents a vacuum from being formed above the bullet. A vacuum might cause the bullet tol withdraw from the shell on attempting to remove the latter.

When the bullet has thus been forced into rposition to be operated upon by the die, said balls enter the grooves of the bullet and accurately centers and aligns as shown in Fig. 4.v Y

The adapter is provided with means whereby a cartridge container may lbev detachably secured therein, said means including a ysemi-circular in'- ternal groove 1| into which the crimped rim of4 thev closed end of the cartridge shell is inserted, andan emergency withdrawal slot 12 (see Fig. 1) to provide an unobstructed exit for the primer in case fouling causes the primer vto protrude. y

The turret is again swung until attachment 31 is alined with the shell whence the operating handle is again elevated `Thisoperation brings `the loadedshell intothe bullet seatingdie, which has previously been suppliedwith a bullet B,and
