Abstract
A yarn unwinding device is disclosed that consist of a base having a central raised portion there that has an upstanding central rod embedded therein. A hollow crochet spindle is rotatably received over the upstanding rod. The crochet needle has a pointed top and has a circular flange located at the bottom. In addition, there is a wider circular washer received over the needle and rests on the bottom flange. A skein of wound yarn is received over the top of the needle and rests on the circular washer at the bottom of the needle. The yarn is withdrawn laterally from the skein with only a limited resistance while unwinding during the process of knitting, embroidering or crocheting.
Description

- (none)
- The invention relates to a yarn unwinding device that is useful in crafts, especially when they are performed in a home environment. When embroidering, knitting or crocheting, there must be a continuous supply of yarn as the work progresses. The continuous supply of yarn is derived or bought from the retail store in skeins in continuous loops that must be rewound into a ball of yarn that is readily available for the person doing the knitting, the embroidering or the crocheting. It is of importance that the supply of yarn to be used in the above tasks is readily and freely available to the person involved in the above noted tasks.
- An object of the invention is to make sure that a supply of yarn is readily available to a person involved in knitting, embroidering or crocheting without causing any snags in delivering the yarn to impede the process of the above mentioned tasks. This is mostly accomplished by placing the yarn supply in a position whereby the yarn supply will easily and without any snags or undesirable loops deliver the yarn to the operator without fail, tensions or stoppage so that the operator can perform the task at hand. This is accomplished by placing a skein of yarn in a position whereby the yarn is always available in a device that will accomplish the above.
- FIG. 1 is an exploded view of the yarn unwinding device;
- FIG. 2 Illustrates an assembled view of the yarn unwinding device;
- FIG. 3 illustrates a fully assembled yarn unwinding device having a skein of yarn thereon.
- FIG. 1 shows an exploded view of how the yarn unwinding decvice as it is constructed. To this end, there is a
base 1 that will support the basic structure. As shown, the base is constructed of a round structure but may assume any other shape such as square, rectangular, triangular or a multi-pointed shaped construction. For simplicity reasons and cost, the round shape is preferred. To continue in the description of FIG. 1, there is shown an upstanding pin orrod 2 that may be screwed into thebase 1 by way of thescrew elements 3 to make a rigid or firm connection. Thebase 1 has acentral elevation 4 having an upper flat, convex or any othershaped surface 4 a. Once the above mentioned elements are assembled, awasher 5 is placed over therod 2 to aid in supporting other rotary elements. Therod 2 further supports thecylindrical tube 7 which, when assembled, will slip over therod 2. Thecylindrical tube 7 represents a large crochet needle of about # 35 that is used for crocheting large open-mesh fabrics. The Crochet needle, normally, has abottom flange 5 so that the last rotations of theskein 11 will be held in place. In addition the invention provides for an optionallarge diameter washer 9 to be placed over thetube 7 including theflange 6 on thetube 7 to provide for a base for any dropped yarn loops to be caught thereon. Thewasher 9 can have a convex shape or an outwardly and downwardly rounded shape As is well known, the top of thecrochet needle 7 has apointed end 8 thereon which is used for crocheting the open mesh fabric in combination with a second similar crochet needle. However, the top has apointed end 8 of thecrochet needle 7 that has an advantage in that the newly used skein of yarn can easily slip over thepoint 8 and be seated in its entirety over theneedle 8 until it will seat on thelower washer 9. Thenew end 13 is now ready for a new knitting or crocheting operation - It can now be seen that the yarn delivery device delivers a clean and tension free yarn delivery to a person doing the knitting, embroidering or crocheting in a trouble free manner.
- Turning now to FIG. 3, there can be seen the overall construction of the yarn unwinding apparatus. To reiterate, the upstanding base is shown at 4, while the skein supporting loops are contained within the
washer 9 which can be considered a skein platform. The top of thecrochet needle 7 can be seen at 8. - It can now be seen that the
skein 12 can easily be slipped over thepointed edge 8 of thecrochet needle 7 to thereby make the end of theyarn 13 available for the user, all as shown in FIG. 3.
