This invention relates to a cap to control the dispensing and closing of a collapsible tube, such as is used for paste materials of various kinds.
t is particularly aimed to provide a novel construction which is operable through a turning movement of the cap and which employs, in combination with the cap proper and the discharge nozzle or neck of the tube, a plurality of plates,
having cam means to control their opening and closing and also the pressure thereof against the nozzle.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.

Referring specifically to the drawing, I designates a conventional collapsible tube, made of lead, lead alloy or other soft metal, adapted to be rolled through the turning of a key at II, to dispense the contents of the tube through a discharge opening I2, usually rectangular in cross section, and contained within a neck or nozzle I3, preferably having an outwardly extending marginal flange I4.
Surmounting the nozzle or neck I3 and rotatable thereon is a cap member I which has its lower surface resting on the nozzle, and below which depends an integral attaching flange I6, which is bent inwardly at I! to overlap the lower edge of flange I4 and thus rotatably mount the cap against accidental displacement. The cap I5 has a discharge opening at I8, preferably rectangular and adapted in discharge position to register with the opening at I2.
The discharge is governed by the position of two substantially semicircular disks or plates at is which are adapted to be moved away from each other with their diametral edges always re maining in parallelism and to be moved toward each other for closing. and also to be moved tight- 1y against the upper surface of the nozzle I3 for better closing. To this end the upper surface of nozzle is is provided with ribs at a right angle to opening I2 and on opposite sides thereof. Said ribs 20 are slidably engaged in grooves 2i in the under surfaces of the plates l9; In addition, plates 59 on their upper surfaces have lugs 22 which are engaged in cam slots 23 of the cap member I5.
Said plates I9 are disposed in a recess in the Under surface of the cap l5 and about the re- 15 cess, and cams 24 are provided to engage the edges of theplates I9 in their closed position, to apply more effective closing pressure thereon. In addition, the upper walls in the grooves 23 have cams at 25 which bear on the lugs 22 in the closed position of the disks to press them downwardly against the upper surface of the nozzle to more effectively close the tube.
Midway between the cams 24, and diametrically opposite each other are stop pins 26.
In the operation of the device, the cap I5 is turned to open position, to the extent permitted by engagement of earns 24 with pins 26, in which position, the openings I2, !8 and space caused by separation of plates I9 aline so that the paste 0 may be squeezed or dispensed from the tube upon winding of the stem II. The cap has a polygonal flange 21 to facilitate engagement and turning. It will be clear that when the cap is turned, the plates I9 slide relatively to each other along the ribs 2!, caused by the coaction of thecam grooves 23 and the lugs 22. In the closed position, the diametral edges of the plates I9 are forced into more eifective engagement by the coaction of the cams 24 with the peripheral edges of the plates and such plates are also brought more tightly against the upper edge of the nozzle I3 by the engagement of the cams '25 against the upper edge of the lugs 22.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the inven tion.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination with a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening therethrough rotatably mounted on the nozzle, a pair of substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle and adapted to move relatively to one another to collectively close and expose said opening, and means to simultaneously move said plates through the turning movement of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates.
2. In combination with a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening therethrough rotatably mounted on the nozzle, a pair of substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle and adapted to move relativel to one another to collectively close and expose said opening, and means to simultaneously move said plates through the turning movement'of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates, said nozzle having a flange thereon and said cap having a flange overlapping the first mentioned flange to mount the cap on the nozzle.
3. In combination with a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening th rethrough and cam grooves therein, said cap'rotatably mounted on the nozzle, a pair of substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle and adapted to move relatively to one another to collectively close and expose said opening, and means to simultaneously move said plates through the turning movement of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates, said means comprising lugs on said plates engaging in said cam grooves.
4. In combinationwith a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening therethrough and cam grooves therein, said cap being rotatably mounted on the nozzle, substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle, means to move said plates relatively through the turning movement of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates, said means comprising lugs on said plates engaging in said cam groves, and ribs on the nozzle engaging grooves in the plates to guide the plates in their sliding movement.
5. In combination with a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening therethrough and cam grooves therein, said cap being rotatably mounted onthe nozzle, substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle, means to move said plates relatively through the turning movement of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates,
"said means comprising lugs on said plates engaging in said cam grooves, ribs on the nozzle engaging grooves in the plates to guide the plates in their sliding movement, cam means in said grooves to engage the lugs to urge the plates tightly against the nozzle in closed position, and cam means engaging the periphery of the plates to urge them into contact in closed position.
6. In combination with a discharge nozzle having a discharge opening therethrough, a cap having a discharge opening therethrough andcain grooves therein, said cap being rotatably mounted on the nozzle, substantially segmental plates disposed between the cap and nozzle, means to move said plates relatively through the turning movement of the cap to control the discharge through said opening and between the plates, said means comprising lugs on said plates engaging in said cam grooves, ribs on the nozzle engaging grooves in the plates to guide the plates in their sliding movement, cam means in said grooves to engage the lugs to urge the plates tightly against thenozzle in closed position, cam means engaging the periphery of the plates to urge them into contact in closed position, said nozzle and cap having overlapping flanges to secure the cap in placeand the cap having a recess housing said plates.
