Abstract

The invention involves a changeable pocket system on a garment. The pocket consists of a single piece of material in the shape of a pocket having U-shaped hook fastening device on an interior surface placed thereon while the garment has an on exterior surface thereof a loop device placed thereon in a U-shaped form to match the U-shaped form of the single piece of material. The single piece of material forms a pocket with the garment when the two fasteners are pressed together. The exterior surface of the single piece of material has displaced thereon an easily recognizable visual message. A second piece of material can be combined with the single piece of material to form a pocket by itself which can be attached to the garment. The visual message is displayed on an exterior surface of the second piece of material.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a garment and the garment having changeable pockets thereon. With changeable pockets is meant that a pocket is on the garment already and that this pocket can easily be taken off the garment and be replaced by another pocket having different designs thereon. The pocket can consist of a piece of material that is simply attached anywhere on a garment and thereby forms a pocket. Another way is to construct a ready-made pocket which has means thereon so that it can simply be attached to a garment in a location wherever such a pocket is desired.

The main reason for making a changeable pocket is so that different messages can be displayed on an outer surface of the pocket which is readily observable to a person being confronted by a person wearing the jacket. One of the messages could be cheery messages such as: Merry Christmas, Happy Easter or Happy Valentine's day when worn by a nurse in a hospital or similar establishments e.t.c.

Variable messages are known to be worn on a garment. It is known that emblems of a fraternal organization or other organizations can be attached to a garment when the occasion arises simply by having a hook system of the well known VELCRO™ system on the back of such emblem which hooks will readily attach themselves to the loops of a garment be it knitted or woven. However, such emblems do not establish a pocket system or a pocket by itself.

U.S. Pat. No. 4,349,920 describes a way of constructing a pocket that will eventually be hidden within the surface of the garment. This is not an object of this invention disclosed.

U.S. Pat. No. 5,144,694 describes another way of constructing a pocket which contains various weights to be attached to a garment for exercise purposes which is not the object of this invention.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the invention to establish a very simple pocket changeable system that can be attached to a garment wherever a message is desired for a casual observer. A nurse's uniform will lend itself very well for cheery messages which are directed to the seasons of the year, special holidays or special occasions. The message could also be directed to special organizations, names of religious groups. The variations are numerous and cannot be enumerated at all in this dissertation.

To accomplish the above noted objects and to construct a pocket having the above noted messages on an outer surface thereof, it is merely necessary to finish a piece of cloth, preferably of the same quality of material as the basic garment, and attach it to the garment at any desirable location by various means of attachment. The most important concept is to have an embroidered or other message on the outer surface of the piece of cloth so that it is visible to a casual observer. The outer appearance of the piece of cloth does not have to be embroidered but can be any other form of display.

As mentioned above, the piece of cloth, when attached to the garment will form a pocket. The attachment means can take various shapes such as snaps, Velcro™, or adhesives. It was also mentioned above that a ready made pocket can also be used which may fastened to the basic garment in the very same way that a single piece of cloth may be fastened to the basic garment to thereby form a pocket. The main object remains the same and that is to exhibit a message on the outer surface of the pocket.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Turning now to FIG. 1, there are shown three different person P wearing various kinds of clothing such a nurse's uniforms. The inventive concept does not necessarily apply to nurse's uniforms but to other garments as well as long as the basic inventive concept is observed, that is, to display or to convey to an another person a cheery or uplifting message. This concept is especially applicable in a hospital environment or in a an elderly care setting where patients seldom get a message of the seasons on the outside or a particular holiday occurrence, whether it be a religious day, a national holiday occurrence or other festive days. The inventive concept can most likely be displayed on a garment by a person P, such as a nurse's uniform. Most of these uniforms have pockets thereon for the purpose of carrying medical instruments which pockets are permanently attached to the garments.. The pockets of the uniforms can be used to display a particular message thereon. In FIG. 1, the [0013] numeral 1 indicates a changeable pocket 1 on the garment. There is no display on the pocket. However, according to the invention of this application, the outer surfaces of the pockets display a message 2 thereon for the various reasons discussed above.
FIG. 2 illustrates one of the [0014] changeable pockets 3 which consists of just a piece of fabric having an outline of a pocket. The piece of fabric having one of the messages of FIG. 1 thereon, is attached to the basic garment by the use of the well known VELCRO™ system. It is preferred that the loop system be attached to the basic garment so that other garments cannot get tangled up with other garments having the same system thereon. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the loop part of the VELRO™ system is attached to the garment in a U-shaped outline according to the outline of the pocket while the upper edge remains unattached which thereby creates the opening of the pocket. As can also seen from FIG. 2, the just explained pockets can be of different sizes and can be placed in different locations.
Turning now to FIG. 3, which again shows the same pocket of FIG. 2 as at [0015] 3 and 4. However, FIG. 3 also shows a different version of a pocket 5. This pocket 5 is already made up as a pocket in itself. To this end the complete pocket 5 has an opening 6. This type of pocket does not rely on the garment to form part of the pocket. To secure the complete pocket 5 to the garment, a loop system type fastener is sewn to the garment in a D-shaped form 7 to which the pocket having the same D-shaped part of the hook type fastening attached which will mate with each other.
Another advantage of the hook type fastener being located on the interior surface of the pocket patch is that the patches or pockets are being laundered separately is that the garments when laundered cannot snag on each other because there are only loop type fasteners on the outer surfaces of the garments. Still another advantage of the hook material being on the interior surface of the single pocket patch or on a ready-made pocket itself is that many garments are constructed in such a way that they in either a knit or the weave construction some have loop threads already which readily accept the hooks on the single pocket patches or a ready-made pocket. Thereby, there is no need to first attach [0017] loop strip fasteners 4 and 7 to the exterior surface of the garment which will keep the exterior surface free of any encumbrances whereby the garment can be worn for different occasions.

Claims

1. A pocket system for a garment comprising a single piece of material having an outline of a pocket, first fastening means placed on an interior surface of said single piece of material following said outline of a pocket, second fastening means placed on an exterior surface of said garment being placed at a selected location, said first and said second fastening means will adhere to each other when pressed together, visual message means placed on an exterior of said single piece of material to indicate a message.

2. The pocket system of claim 1, wherein said single piece of material is a first piece in combination with a second piece of material, identical to said first piece, means for combining said single piece of material with said second piece of material to thereby form a pocket by itself, wherein said visual message means is placed on an exterior surface of said second piece of material.

3. The pocket system of claim 1, wherein said first means for fastening consists of a hook material and said second means for fastening consists of a loop material.
