WILLIAM W. HART, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO FRED. H.
SEYMOUR, OF
SAME PLACE.
$pecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,291, dated February 12, 1878 application filed October 13, 1877. x
To all whom it may concern: 4
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. HART, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Folding Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,. and exact description of the construction and specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my folding table. Fig. 2 is a bottom-plan view, and Fig. 3 is a transverse verticalsection thereof. Sig. 6 is a perspective view of my folding ta- The natureof my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a folding table, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention.
A represents the table-top, of any suitable dimensions, provided on its under side with a skeleton frame, B, the ends of which are bent in angular form, as shown at a a. This frame may be of any suitable dimensions, and extends from one end of the top A toward the other end as far as desired. 0 O are two legs, connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar, O, which passes under the skeleton frame B. At the ends of this cross-bar are attached journals or pivots b b, which extend under flanged guide-plates E E, fastened to the under side of the table A. To the center of the cross-bar O is fastened one leaf of a hinge, d, the other leaf of which lies against a slotted plate, G, also fastened to the under side of the table A. In the top G is a groove covered by said plate, and in said groove is placedthe head of a screw, 6. This screw passes down through the slot in the plate G, and through the leaf of the hinge d, and has a thumb-nut, f, screwed upon its lower end, for fastening this leaf of the hinge at any point desired to the table. To the inner sides of the legs 0 O are pivoted two other legs, D D, the upper ends of which are also connected by a cross- To fold the table, the legs D are turned so as to throw the cross-bar D against the crossbar 0, the legs D folding within the legs 0. A round, D connecting the legs D D near their lower ends, is then made to catch on a hook, I, fastened to the'under side of the table A.
Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings show a modification of the hinge and sliding connection, the slotted plate G being let into the table'- top, and the T-shaped plates N being attached to the corners of the cross-bar 0, so as to en'- gage with the aforesaid slotted plate.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a folding table, the adjustable pivoted legs 0 D, secured to one end of the table-top by means of guides and journals, in combination with frame B and hook I, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with an adjustable table, the frame B, provided with stops a a, and cross-bar 0, provided with journals, which extend under guide-plates, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
3; In a folding table, the top A, to which is secured a skeleton frame, B, provided with stops at a, guides E E and G, in combination with pivoted X-legs G D, provided with crossbars D D and journals 1) b, screw 0, and nut.
f, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM WALLACE HART.
Witnesses:
L. G. TWOMBLY, JEREMIAH SHEAHAN.
