UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAFAYETTE WROTE, OF WINTERSET, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OE TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE W. KIRBYAND LEWIS THORNBURG, OF SAME PLACE.
.IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM FEED- CO OKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 200,237, dated February 12, 1878; application filed December 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAFAYETTE WROTE, of Winterset, county of Madison, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Cookers, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a feedcooker with my improvements attached, and Fig. 2 a'longitudinal vertical section.
This invention relates to improvements in steam feed-cookers; and the invention consists in the general construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents a cast-iron base, forming a furnace, supported upon the legs a, and having in one end a perforated door, a, for securing a draft to the furnace. B B represent two sections of a grate, hinged together, the rear portion B being supported upon'the side cleats b b of the furnace. crepresents a lever, having one end secured around the hinge of the two sections of the grate, and its opposite end passing out through the front side of the furnace, and by means of which the fire in the furnace can be well shaken or stirred up. The back or rear side of the furnace is provided with a flue, O, which passes longitudinally through the boiler D, arranged on top ofthe furnace, for conducting heat through the boiler, thereby allowing the Water in the boiler to be subjected to the heat direct from the furnace, and also the products of combustion.
E represents the smoke-flue, provided with a perforated spark-arrester, e. The boiler, on its front end, is provided with two tubes, d d. The tube d is for the purpose of drawing the water out of the boiler, and the tube 61 to represent a water-gage.
The top of the boiler is provided with a safety-valve, F, and two large tubes, G G. The tube G is for the purpose of attaching a rubber hose for conducting the steam to the feed-tank or barrel, and the tube G for filling the boiler, and to which a steam-whistle, H, is applied for calling the animals when desired. The rear end of the boiler is also provided wi th a tube, I, which can also be connected with a steam feed-tank, if desired. The furnace is also provided with handles J J on its sides, for convenience in carrying.
Having thus explained my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The hereinbeforedescribed steam feed-cooker, consisting of the furnace'A, with sectional hinged grate and lever, boiler D, with tubes d d G G I, safety-valve F, flue G, passing entirely through the boiler, and provided with the smoke-stack and spark-condenser E e, the several parts constructed and relatively arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose-set forth.
LAFAYETTE WROTH.
