Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
THOMAS W. SYNNOTT, OF WENONAH, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT-JARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,229, dated February 12, 1878; application filed January 11, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. SYNNoTT,
- of Wenonah, New Jersey, have invented a new on the neck of the jar and in the cap, the
thread upon the neck being so constructed that the same shall run out into a shoulder formed upon the jar at one extremity, and shall run into the upper edge or chine of the throat at the other extremity.
My invention consists in the employment of one or more ears at a point beyond that of the running out of the thread into the shoulder, so as to keep down the rubber washer upon the shoulder, and prevent its slipping up into the thread orout of position by reason of the running out of the thread which ordinarily holds it down.
Referring to the'drawing, A is the body of the jar; B the screw-thread upon the neck, running out at a into the shoulder O, and at b into the chine. E and F are ears or lugs. G is the packing-ring; H, the cover, and h the flared base of the same.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A glass jar having a screw-thread upon the neck, which has been molded in the act of molding the jar, and running out into the shoulder, and provided with ears E and F, formed upon the neck of the jar beyond the running-out point of the lower extremity of the thread, and adapted to retain the packingring in position against the shoulder, substantially as shown and described.
THOS. W. SYNNOTT.
Witnesses:
