REPAIR VALVE SEAT Fi led Sept. 5, 1934 Invento'r @2706? Weir Attorney Patented May 21, 1935 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a repair valve seat which is mainly designed for repairing the seat of a flush valve, the general object of the invention being to provide a seat forming member which can be easily and quickly placed over the old seat when an old seat becomes worn or pitted or is not level.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:-
Figure 1 is a sectional view through aflush box showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a top plan view showing the 'invention applied to the valve seat carrying member of the flush box.
Figure 3 is a view of the repair seat before being put in place on an old seat.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 44 of ure 3.
As shown in this drawing the repair seat as shown at A is formed of bendable material and of substantially ring shape with its major part sloping downwardly and inwardly from its upper edge to its lower edge to provide the seat engaging part I with spaced tongues 2 extending outwardly from its upper edge. This repair seat is adapted to be placed over the old seat forming part 3 of the tubular part 4 which forms the outlet of the flush box 5, the part i resting on the upper inner face of the part 3 with the tongues bent over the upper edge of said part 3 so that the repair seat is firmly connected to the old seat. A gasket will be placed betwen the new seat and the old seat. Sometimes in placing the original flush valve in the flush tank they do not set perfectly level. When placing repair seat over seat of original valve it can be adjusted to a level position. When the new seat is put in place a new ball slightly less in diameter than the old ball should be installed as new balls are usually installed when the old valve seat is cleaned or repaired so thatthis does not mean the necessity of using a new ball because of the use of this repair seat. The device can be manufactured at relatively low cost and it can be readily installed and by using this device it is not necessary to remove the old flush valve member 4 and clean or replace these parts. The new seat can be installed without removing any of the parts from the tank.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A repair seat for a worn valve seat which flares upwardly and outwardly, comprising a ringshaped member sloping downwardly and inwardly from its upper edge to its lower edge for contacting the inner face of the upper portion of the worn valve seat and outwardly extending tongues the new seat on the said old seat.
