Description

C. F. STURM Oct. 19, 1937.
GLOVE Filed March 28, 1936 uzrlamnna siwlza z v TNVENTOR. Conrad F. Jzwm.
- ATTORNEYS.
Patented Oct. 19, 1937 GLOVE Conrad F. Sturm, Alexandria, Ind., assignor to The Glove Corporation, Alexandria, Ind., a corporation of Indiana Application March 28, 1936, Serial No. 71,416
1 Claim.
The object of my invention is to produce a glove of the heavy duty type, which will have a long life but which will besufliciently flexible at the wrist.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention.
Fig. 1 is a palm view of a glove embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 is a plan, on a reduced scale, of the lining;
Fig. 3 is a plan of the palm facing;
Fig. 4 is a plan of the thumb back facing; and
Fig. is a section, somewhat magnified, on line 55 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing, Fig. 2 illustrates the lining blank comprising the back lining l0 and front lining H which may be formed in a single piece or in two' pieces, as indicated by the dotted line I2, the part In being slit at various points I 3 to form finger back lining tabs l4 and slit at l5, if the blank is made in one piece, to define one side of which is defined by the slit IT in the blank portion H. The blank portion H is slit at I8 to define the front finger linings 19. The base 290i section II is upwardly offset from the base 2| of section III, as shown in Fig. 2, for a, purpose which will appear. The palm facing 25, most commonly of leather, comprises the central or palm facing portion, one or more finger facing tabs 26, inside thumb facing tab 21, gauntlet facing 28, and a neck portion 29 which is intermediate the palm facing section 25 and the gauntlet facing section 28 and is integral therewith.
The parts are so proportioned that the base 2| of the back lining section l0 may be stitched to the upper edge of the gauntlet 30, as indicated at 3|, while the front lining section I l falls short of the upper edge of the gauntlet 30, as indicated at 32, Fig. 5, to be stitched at 33 to the front facing at the upper limit of neck 29. The upper edge of the front of the gauntlet is stitchedat 34 to the front facing element at the lower limit of the neck portion 29, and the lower end of the gauntlet facing 28 is stitched to the gauntlet at 35. By
of the thumb front lining tab [6, the other side this arrangement, adequate lining of the palm is provided and at the same time adequate flexibility at the wrist of the glove is provided because the neck portion 29 of the palm facing element is left unlined.
Whether the palm facing element is provided with integral finger front facing elements for all four fingers or, as shown in Fig. 1, with integral facing elements only for the index and little fingers, and is supplemented by finger facing elements 36 and 31, is, as will be readily understood,
a matter of choice and without any degree, modifying the character of my present invention.
One of the major points of wear in a glove of this type is at the base of the palm and continuity of material in the facing element from the palm across the neck and on the gauntlet contributes very materially to long life. Where the neck portion of the face element is a separate piece attached to the root of the palm facing element, the added thickness exposes the glove at the necessary seam to added wear. By discontinuing the front lining at the upper limit of the neck section 29, adequate flexibility at the wrist of the glove is provided, although the wear protection of the palm facing, due to the front palm lining, is retained.
I claim as my invention:
A gauntlet glove, comprising a gauntlet, a onepiece front facing element providing a palm facing, a gauntlet facing and an intermediate neck portion, said neck portion adapted to extend from a point adjacent the root of a wearers thumb to a point beyond the wearers wrist joint, the gauntlet facing being stitched to the gauntlet, whereby 35 the gauntlet is positioned entirely between the wearers wrist and elbow joints, a back section attached at its root to the upper edge of the gauntlet and provided with finger-back portions, and a front face lining having finger-liner tabs at one end and its base stitched to the front facing element along a line spaced forwardly from the front edge of the gauntlet.
