Description
I July 13, 1937. R. ca. ROBERTS ET AL FASTENING FOR SLIT OPENINGS IN GARMENTS Fild July 15, 1955 luvsumes ROBERT GoooMAN Rowan ALEX/mama .TAMES Roe-Eras 22% y $6M, I ATTORNEY.

Application July 15,

view in the closed position, the'edges being held 15 seam.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description which has refbreeches or iodphurs.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the lower part of one of the legs showing the fastening open and one side folded back. Figure 25 2 is a similar view immediately prior to the final fastening operation and Figure 3 is a similar View of the fastening completely closed.
In Figures 2 and 3 an additional arrangement comprising a flap portion l3 on the bottom of the 3C leg portion and later described in detail, is illustrated.
In the drawing I is the one side of the slit, and 2 the other side, and'secured to the side I by its one half of a press stud. For ease of fastening this is the half carrying the projecting pillar 9 the other recessed half I being carried at the end of the overlap side 2.
55 The wearers leg is inserted with the sliding James don, England 1935, Serial No. 31,465 in July 20, 1934 clasp open as in Figure 1, and when the garment is correctly in position the sliding clasp is drawn towards the open end to close the opening. The finger piece i is then pressed down so that the pillar 9 passes through the aperture 8 and the overlap side is then pressed downwardly so that the pip engages its female portion it.
Thus the free ends of the sides and thesliding clasp are kept in position. The pillar will'be of such a length 'topass through the aperture 8 and also into the recessed half l0.
To undo the fastener, the edge of the overlap side adjacent the open end is pulled to release the press stud and the opening maybe revealed either by pulling outwardly the sides of the slit or pulling the sliding clasp 6. When the opening substantially invisible appearing as if the seam extends to the edge of the cloth.
The fastener is applicable to all slit closures having one open end, such as fly and certain pocket openings, leggings, cushion covers and the like.
It is not intended to limit the invention to the precise method of fitting the fastener. For example, in the case of openings for flys in which one side overlaps the other side, said other side has the one half of the fastener on the top of the side.
In the additional arrangement previously referred to and illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawing the turn up portion the edge of the H extends from the seam I2 to portion I to which it is stitched,
We claim:-- 1. A slit opening closure device, comprising a sliding clasp fastener one toothed half secured to one side of the opening and extending therebeyond, a protective backing behind said half of the fastener said backing extending across the slit double thickness or permanent 2 halves terminating short of the free end of the slit, an interlocking two part fastening device, one element secured on the underside of the latter mentioned side of the opening adjacent the edge thereof, the interengaging element secured on the backing adjacent the edge thereof and a sliding clasp for the fastener having a finger piece which is retained and held between the two parts of the interlocking fastening device, which also retains and holds the free ends of the slit in closed relation with the slit edges adjacent and locks the sliding clasp fastener in the closed position.
2. A slit opening closure device comprising a sliding clasp fastener, one toothed half secured to one side of the opening and extending therebeyond, a protective backing behind said half of the fastener said backing extending across the slit from this side, the other toothed half of the fastener secured on the other side of the slit opening a short distance from the edge thereof the halves terminating short of the free end of the slit, the female element of a press stud fastening device secured on the underside of the latter mentioned side of the opening, the interengaging male element thereof secured on the backing, and a sliding clasp for the fastener, the finger piece thereof having an aperture co-operating with the press stud fastening device, and slipping over the male element before closure thereof, said press stud fastener holding the free ends of the slit and also the sliding clasp fastener in position when the closure is closed with the slit edges adjacent.
3. A slit opening closure device, for the slit opening at the bottom of the legs of riding breeches, comprising a sliding clasp fastener, one toothed half secured to one side of the opening and extending there-beyond, a protective backing behind said half of the fastener said backing extending across the slit from this side, the other toothed half of the fastener secured on the other side of the slit opening a short distance from the edge thereof the halves terminating short of the free end of the slit, an interlocking two part fastening device, one element secured on the underside of the latter mentioned side of the opening adjacent the edge thereof, the interengaging element secured on the backing adjacent the edge thereof and a sliding clasp for the fastener having a finger piece which is retained and held between the two parts of the interlocking fastening device, which also retains and holds the free ends of the slit in closed relation with the slit edges adjacent and locks the sliding clasp fastener in the closed position, a turned up bottom portion of the leg said portion including a flap portion stitched to the one free edge, and adapted in the closed position to extend across the lower portion of the adjacent edges of the slit and be held in position by fastening means, said flap portion in such position having the appearance of a continuous turn up.
