Description
April 20, 1937. w. FRIEDRICH SWIMMING GLOVE Filed June 23, 1956 %7zdeZZF7:Z edflZbk VENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 20, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a hand covering and more especially to a webbed swimming glove.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a glove of this character, wherein the same is formed with finger and thumb stalls, these being joined by webs therebetween and such glove when worn by a swimmer will enable the latter to efie'ct speed with minimum eifort during swimming.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a glove of this character, wherein the thumb and finger stalls are extended and the portions thereof beyond the finger and thumb of a hand of a user afford air cells thus giving a degree of buoyancy to the glove when upon the hand of a user and affording maximum pull on the water during swimming.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a glove of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form and in its use enables a maximum grip while swimming to increase the speed of such swimmer and at the same time minimizing effort on the part of the swimmer.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a glove of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in its operation, readily and easily worn, susceptible of fitting different sizes of hands, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as willbe hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view partly in section of a glove constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the glove comprises a body 5 having thumb and finger stalls 6 and 1, respectively, these being integral with the body which together with the stalls are preferably made from rubber.
The stalls 6 and l are extended considerably and in the extended portions are formed air cells 8 closed at 9 from the stall portions. The extended portions of the stalls 6 and I at the outer ends thereof are rounded at 10 and the wall of each extended portion is materially thickened while the thickness gradually diminishes inwardly of the stall.
Between the stalls 6 and l and carried outwardly between the extensions of said stalls are flexible webs I I. The air cells 8 in the extensions of the stalls 6 and 1 give buoyancy to the glove when worn by the hand of a swimmer. The fitting of the glove upon the hand, the latter beingindicated at A, is clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing and on the wearing of such glove during swimming the swimmer can increase speed with less effort as a greater pull can be had upon the water during swimming.
What is claimed is:
A swimming glove comprising an unbroken hand accommodating body, elongated thumb and finger stalls formed with the body and having intermediate interior partitions separating the same into inner thumb and finger receiving sockets and outer closed air cells, respectively, and flexible webs between and joined with the sai stalls throughout the length thereof for completely closing spaces between these stalls when considerably spread apart with respect to each other, the stalls being formed with walls gradually thickening from the inner ends thereof to the outer ends of the same.
WENDELL FRIEDRICH.
