MIVE/V T01? Stanley Oa/fes 6% ZTose oh Oa/fes AT 7' ORA/E Y Patented Apr. 13, 1937 GOAL Stanley Oakes and Joseph Oakes, Waseca, Saskatchewan, Canada I Original application March 7,1933, Serial No. 660,562. Divided and this application Nvemher 5, 1935; Serial :No. 48,413
4 Claims. 01. 273-1) This invention relates to improvements in a goal for games of different kinds and ap-pertains particularly therefor.--"It is disclosed in and divided out of our copending application #660,562 entitled Game.
An object of this invention is to provide a goal of rugged design that will prove strong and durable in use to resist the strains, blows and impacts incidental to its use and retain its size, shape and proportions unvaried.
A further object is to provide a goal of this character that is easy to make and simple to assemble with various parts readily removable for substitution or replacement.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of the nature and for the purposes described, characterized by structural simplicity and relatively low cost of production, whereby the same is rendered commercially de- 2 sirable.
To the accomplishment of these and related objects as shall become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as shall be hereinafter more clearly described, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
The invention will be best understood and can be more clearly described when reference is had to the drawing forming a part of this disclosure wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved goal;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail section taken substantially on the plane of line 2-2 of Figure 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows;
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail section, taken substantially on the plane of line 3-3 of Figure 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail section, taken substantially on the plane of line 44 of Figure 1,
looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
A pair of goal cages are provided for opposite ends of the playing field, floor or platform and each goal cage includes a substantially U-shaped front frame bar 5 having cup shaped sockets 6 threaded on the lower ends of said frame bar that are provided with elongated tapered or inverted conical anchoring pegs 7 depending centrally therefrom to be driven into the ground, ice or other surface for firmly anchoring the goal frame bar 5 in position. A lower horizontal and to an improved frame construction of, it is intended that substantially U-shaped bar 8 carries substantially cup-shaped sockets 9 on its opposite. ends with short central studs Ill projecting therefrom and driven into openings II in the depending'legs of the frame bar 5, near the lower ends thereof.
A pair of curved or arcuate end frame bars l2 are also employed in the goal frame structure and carry substantially cup-shaped sockets l3 threaded on their upper ends with short central studs l4 projecting therefrom and driven into openings l5 provided therefor in the rear side of the frame bar 5 at the upper corners thereof. These curved or arcuate end frame bars l2 also PATET! ICE "1* have substantially cup-shaped sockets l6 threaded on their lower ends with elongated depending anchoring pegs I? carried centrally thereby and driven downwardly through openings IS in the corners of the frame bar 8, the pegs ll termi mating in tapered and pointed free lower ends [9 also adapted to be driven into the surface to firmly anchor the rear corners of the goal frame in position. A strengthening and reinforcing frame bar 29 of smaller diameter is extended between the intermediate portions of the curved or arcuate end frame members l2 and firmly attached thereto. A wire or cord mesh covering 2i is provided over the curved rear side of the goal frame and over the ends thereof and firmly held in position by appropriate means such as the screw hooks 22 carried on the upper horizontal portion of the goal frame bar 5. The straight front side of the goal frame is left open.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that a goal is provided that will fulfill all the necessary requirements of such a device.
but as many changes could be made. in the above description and many apparently widely different embodiments of the invention may be constructed within the scope of the appended claims Without departing from the spirit or scope thereall matters contained in the said accompanying specification and drawing, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limitative or restrictive sense.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A goalcomprising a U-shaped front frame bar; spiked sockets threaded on the ends of the legs thereof; a horizontal U-shaped frame bar extended rearwardly; a pair of arcuate end frame members from the upper corners of said front frame bar to the rear corners of said horizontal frame bar and means for connecting said arcuate 10 lower ends of said arcuate end members and horizontal frame member to said front frame member.
2. A goal comprising a U-shaped front frame bar; spiked sockets threaded on the ends of the legs thereof; a horizontal U-shaped frame bar extended rearwardly; a pair of arcuate end frame members from the upper corners of said front frame bar to the rear corners of said horizontal frame bar and sockets threaded on the end members with spikes penetrating said horizontal frame member at its rear corners.
3. A goal comprising a U-shaped front frame bar; sockets threaded over the ends of the legs thereof having ground engaging spikes protruding therefrom; a horizontal U-shaped framebar connected to the legs of said front frame bar and extending rearwardly therefrom; a pair of armate end frame members extending from the upper corners of said front frame bar to near the rear corners of said horizontal frame bar; sockets threaded over the lower ends of said arcuate end members with elongated spikes protruding therefrom and penetrating said horizontal frame memher at its rear corners; a reinforcing brace bar joining the intermediate portions of said arcuate end frame members; hooks threaded to the outer perimeter of said front frame bar throughout its length and a net carried by said hooks.
4. A goal cage comprising a tubular U-shaped front frame threaded at its ends; openings through the rear side of said tube at the top corners and near the bottom of the legs; sockets on said threaded ends with spikes protruding therefrom; a tubular horizontal U-bar threaded at the ends having perforations through the rear corners thereof; sockets on the threaded ends of said horizontal U-bar with short studs extending therefrom adapted for reception by the openings in the rear side of the legs of said U -shaped front frame; a pair of arcuate and tubular end members threaded at both ends; sockets on the upper ends thereof with short stubs for engagement with the openings in the rear side of said U-shaped front frame at the upper corners thereof; sockets on the lower threaded ends of said end members with elongated spikes depending therefrom adapted to extend through the perforations in the rear corners of said horizontal U-bar; a reinforcing brace bar joining the intermediate portions of said arcuate-end frame members; hooks threaded to the outer perimeter of said front frame bar throughout its length and a net carried by said hooks.
