Description
April 13, 1937. A. HAGEL COSMETIC HOLDER Original Filed April 26, 1933 Patented Apr. 13, 1 937 COSMETIC HOLDER Albert Hagel, Newark, N. J., assignor to Consolidated Safety Pin Company, Bloomfield, N. J a
corporation Application April 26, 1933, Serial No. 667,956 Renewed February 26, 1937 2 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in cosmetic holders and particularly to lipstick holders, and more especially to lipstick holders which may be opened or closed by the operation of a finger-piece, the object of the invention being to produce, in a simple manner, a lipstick holder of convenient and attractive form, which is firmly locked in the closed position and also adapted to maintain an open position,
The invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and. particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a cosmetic holder constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top View of the same;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a side view of the same;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the same line as Fig. 5, with the cover in the closed position;
Fig. 7 is a sectional view on the line 1-1 of Fig. 5;
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the case-member, detached;
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the cover-member, detached;
Fig. 10 is a perspective view of the elevator, detached; and
Fig. 11 is a perspective view of the finger-piece, detached.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a casing l5 comprising a front l5, back l1, side I8,
bottom l9 and top 20, the other side of the casing being open.
In the top 20 is an opening 38 and in the front is a longitudinal slot 2|.
The cover-member 22 consists of a side 23, front wall 24, rear wall 25 and top 26, which is bowed, corresponding to the curvature of the top 20 of the casing. The side walls are tapered and near their lower ends are formed with lugs 4 21 adapted to extend through openings 28 in the casing, whereby the cover-member is hinged to the casing.
The bottom 29 of the cover is cut to form a spring-toe 30 and above this toe is an inwardlyextending rib 3| for the purpose as will hereinafter appear.
An elevator 32 adapted to contain a lipstick 33 or other cosmetic corresponds to the internal dimensions of the casing and. to it is attached a finger-piece 34, the finger-piece being formed with lugs 35 which extend through the slot 2| and through perforations 36 in the elevator, whereby the finger-piece is firmly connected thereto. Preferably, the front wall of the eleco vator has an upward extension 31 which closes the lower portion of the slot 2| when the elevator is in the depressed position.
t will be noted that the edge of the front of the cover is in contact with the lugs 35 of the finger-piece, while the rear wall is always in.
contact with the side wall of the elevator. When in the closed position, the cover is held closed by the elevator, and the rib 3|, being in contact therewith, prevents any movement of the cover.
As the finger-piece is raised, the elevator forces the cover outward and the action of the springtoe 30 tends to move the cover into an open position, to which it is forced by the engagement of the elevator with the front and rear walls of the cover, with which it is in contact at all times.
The parts are positioned so that the opening in the casing is exposed before the lipstick reaches the top of the casing and so that it may be projected outward through the opening in the top, and as the elevatoris depressed, its bottom engaging with the bottom of the, cover, moves the cover to the closed position and so holds it.
It will thus be seen that a lipstick holder is produced which comprises but four pieces, readily formed from sheet metal and therefore permitting production at very low cost and presenting an attractive holder having the advantages of being operable by one hand.
I claim:
1. A cosmetic holder comprising a casing, open on one side and formed in its front wall with a longitudinal slot and in its top with an opening, a cover-member pivotally connected with the casing and having beveled front and rear walls extending into said casing, said cover formed with a bottom and provided with a spring toe tending to force the cover to an open position, an elevator in said casing, and a finger piece connected with said elevator by means extending through the slotin the front wall, one of the walls of the cover bearing against the elevator and. the other against the means for moving it.
2. A cosmetic holder comprising a casing, open on one side and formed in its front wall with a longitudinal slot and in its top with an opening, a cover-member pivotally connected with the casing and having beveled front and rear walls extending into said casing, said cover formed with a bottom and provided with a springtoe tending to force the cover to an open position, an elevator in said casing, a finger-piece connected with said elevator by means extending through the slot in the front wall, one of the walls of the cover bearing against the elevator and the other against the means for moving it,
and a vertically-arranged rib on the cover,
adapted to contact with the elevator when in its closed position.
ALBERT HAGEL.
