IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 207,280, dated August :30, 1878 application filed March 8, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. INGLIS, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Chimneys and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, formin g part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a side view.
This invention relates to lamp-chimneys; and consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, 0 (J are two equal portions of a lamp-chimney, which may be of any of the styles in use. 0 0 represent two clamps, provided with screws 8 s and clamp-springs t i, and hinged to the frame of the lamp, by which the half-chimneys O G are secured to the latter. According to the disposition of the lamp, one orboth of the two halves G 0 might be provided with a recess, 1", to receive the clamp 0. Two movable springs, S S, fixed also to the frame of the lamp, keep the edges of the parts 0 0 close together. By turning these springs sideward the chimney can be opened and cleaned without being taken off from the lamp.
The advantages of this kind of lamp-chimneys are, that they are not exposed to break through sudden expansion or contraction, as is the case for chimneys made in one piece, and that their cleaning outside and inside can be done far better and more easily.
What I claim as new is 1. In a lamp-chimney, the clamps c c, with their screws 8 s and springs z t", and hinged to the frame of the lamp, and the springs S S, maintaining the edges of the half-chimneys together, in combination with the parts 0 C, as described and set forth.
2. The half-chimney 0, provided with a recess, r, in combination with the clamp c, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
