IMPROVEMENT IN CIGARETTE-HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,818, dated July 9, 1878; application filed February 1, 1578.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J osr. It. VILLASANA, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette- Holder, of which the following is a specification:

Inthe accompanying drawing, the figure represents a side view of my improved cigarette-holder.

The object of the invention is to provide for cigarettes, and especially that class known as Spanish cigarettes, an improved holder by which the unrolling of the cigarette and the dropping of the same are prevented, and by which the cigarette may be placed on a table or desk without burning any part thereof and smoked, while the hands may be used for other purposes.

The invention consists of a cigarette-holder and spring-clamp connected thereto by a chain, so as to hold the cigarette when the clamp is applied to the same without unrolling.

Referring to the drawing, A represents a cigarette-holder of meerschaum, amber, or any other suitable material; and B a spring-clamp that is preferably bent of wire in the shape of the figure, as shown in the drawing, so as to clasp the cigarette, being removed therefrom by pressing the lower parts together.

The spring-clamp B is applied, by a chain, 0, to the holder, a screw, ring, or other fastenin g device serving to attach the chain to the holder. The cigarette is first rolled up tight,

then placed into the roller and the springclamp applied to about the middle part of the cigarette, which is thereby prevented from unrolling by the spreading of the paper, and also from dropping, as the clamp and chain suspend the cigarette, thus avoiding burning of carpets, &c.

When in use, the holder may be placed on the table, desk, or other object, with the springclamp in such a position that it supports the holder and cigarette in inclined position, so as not to injure the object on which the holder is placed.

By the use of such a holder and clamp the hands may be used for other purposes in smoking, and the disagreeable soiling of the fingers, so common with the smokers of Spanish cigarettes, avoided.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A cigarette-holder having a spring-clamp applied thereto, held by a chain, and removable to diiferent positions, for preventing the unrolling of the cigarette and the dropping of the same, substantially as and for the purpose described.
