' V 2 Claims. (01. 215-99) This invention relates to the broad classification of closures and has more specific reference to a unique and distinctly different closing cap for glass bottles and the like but primarily adapted for use in connection with so-called collapsible tubes of the type used for dispensing shaving cream, toothpaste and similar goods.
There is a long sought need for the provision of an efficient and otherwise adequate closing cap of the type which is permanently attached to the container so as to obviate the use of bodily detachable caps. Admittedly, permanently anchored caps in this line of endeavor are not broadly new. Under the circumstances my primary aim is to generally improve upon known structures of this classification by providing a self-adapting and reliable arrangement more aptly fitted for the purposes intended and'otherwise appropriate to accomplish the desire-d results in a highly practicable and satisfactory manner.
Generically stated, the preferred embodiment of the cap comprises an appropriate cork lined cap to fit in hoodlike fashion over the discharge neck of the container, the cap being distinguished by the incorporation therein of a pivoting and attaching slot.
In reducing the inventive conception to actual practice I have found it expedient and practicable to so construct the container as to accommodate the slotted attaching means of the cap, whereby to provide requisite clearance, to promote free swinging, and to allow the cap to be bodily moved toward and from the discharge neck in a more or less perpendicular manner to facilitate opening and closing.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawing.

Attention is invited first to Figures 1 to 7 inclusive. Here the container is in the form of a bottle It whose pouring neck is formed at a pre- 5 determined point with a circumferential groove l5 to accommodate a snug fitting collar or band iii of metal or equivalent or appropriate material. This part It is hereinafter known as the adapter and attaching means and by referring to Figure 10 2 it will be observed that it is characterized on one side by a pair of outstanding spaced parallel ribs or fins H which define a sheath-like guideway 58 therebetween.
The cap, which may be of appropriate material is indicated by the numeral I9 and is preferably lined with cork or equivalent packing ma terial 20. The cap is shaped to fit snugly over the mouth 2| of the bottle. It will be noted that the cap is provided with an outstanding annular bead 22 which constitutes a convenient finger grip for actuating the cap. Then too on one side it is provided with a depending projection or extension 23 having a longitudinally elongated slot 2 1 formed therein. This forms a self-adapt- 25 ing and hinging member. It is proportioned to work freely in the sheath-like guideway 18 as shown better in Figure 3. It is held in place by a retention and fulcrum pin 25 as shown better in Figure 3 which pin is located between the upper ends of the flanges Ill. Assuming that the cap is open and hanging down alongside of the bottle neck as shown in Figure 3 it is evident that the fulcrum 25 is then at one end of the slot. By catching hold of the cap and swinging it upwardly in an are it may be brought directly over the mouth 2| in an evident manner. Then by catching hold of the grip 22 the cap can be forced vertically down in a true perpendicular line to the closed position shown in Figure 1. At this time the slotted hinging member 23 rides down in the guideway l8 and. permits the cap to be fully and successfully closed and rigidly maintained closed.
The gist of the novelty found in the foregoing invention has to do with the bottle including the neck provided with the annular groove and the adapter band which is fitted into the groove and formed on one side with the outstanding spaced parallel flanges defining a sort of a sheath-like guideway, there being a closing cap and a cap having a longitudinally elongated slotted extension fitting into the guideway, and being associated with the fulcrum and attaching pin secured between the flanges and the upper end of the 55 guideway so as to provide the desired sliding and hinging connection between parts.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size, and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a structure of the class described, in combination, a bottle including a neck having an annular groove, an adapter band fitted into said groove formed on one side with outstanding spaced parallel flanges defining a sheath-like guideway, a closing cap, said cap having a 1ongitudinally elongated slotted extension cooperable with said guideway, and a fulcrum and attaching pin secured between the flanges at the upper end of the guideway, said slotted extension being slidably and hingedly connected with said pin.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a closing cap attachment for a bottle or the like comprising an annular adapter and anchoring band adapted to embrace the neck of the bottle, said band being provided on one side with a groove forming a guideway, a fulcrum and retention pin arranged in and extending transversely across said guideway at one end thereof, a closing cap adapted to swing over the bottle, said cap including a rim formed with a slotted extension shaped and proportioned to fit and move in said guideway, said extension being slidably and hingedly connected with said pin in the manner and for the purposes described.
