Description
Aug. 11, 1936. c. MARX 2,050,439
UTILITY CUTT-ER TOOL Filed Sept. 21, 1 954 INVENTOR Liliana:
ATTORNEY Aug. 11, 1936 Patented UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE lclaim.
The main object of this invention is to provide a cutting implement for textiles or similar other material which device is simple in cost and construction and easy to assemble.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cutting tool for textiles and the like which is so constructed as to have its knife edge ordinarily a razor blade mounted within a guard which adlusts the depth of the cut by said implement.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below in which charactersoi reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred type of cutting implement showing the same completely assembled.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, sectional, elevational view thru the case handle of the implement showing the mounted plates within said casing.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal, sectional side elevational view thru the casing showing the cutter holding plates therein.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the cutter holding blades,
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of the modifled type of implement showing a guard secured to one end of the implement.
. Referring in detail to the drawing the numerals I 0 and l I, indicate the cutting blade holding plates used with the device. These plates represent elongated members which lie one upon the other andatoneendhavearamrblade l2,inserted betweenthm'Theplate li,isprovidedwltha pairoicircularbosses ",whichreglsterinsimiiarly poeition'ed openings ll, formed in the plate member II. The upper edge of one end of the plates II and II, is recessed marginally as indicated by'the-numeral l5, and the opposing edge 4,0 it, of these plates are cut away angularly as'indicated by a numeral I'I, expose a greater portion of the raaonbiadeholding plates I. and". are provided with'grooves it, which are curved longitudinallyandeerveasnngerinsertswhen itis 4s desired-to plates after removing the same from an irregularly formed rectangular casinginwhichtbeplatesarenormaliybased; This casinghasendwallslOandll,-andsidewalls2l, andfl, andatoneendhasitssldewailsformod 5 intotaperingtonguesilmsindieatedinrigurel.
Therearenxboftbegates lland ll,areserrated transversely as indicated by the numeral 24. The modified form of device is identical to the preferred form but in addition is connected with a guard which has a recessed rim 25. The latter resting upon the edge 26, of the tapered portion 5 of the casing and is so constructed as to have an angular portion 21, thereon thru which a corner I of the razor blade l2, may be adjustably exposed.
In use the device is adapted to out such articles 10 as awning material, plush and similar other textile material. A large depth of blade may be used when exposing the blade i2, beneath the angular cut out portion beneath the plates l0 and H, and a narrow depth may be used when expos- 15 ing the razor blade thru the recess of the plates. The plates i0 and II, are slidably mounted within the casing and holder of the implement which may be slit out thru one or the other end of the same. In the modified type of implement shown 20 in Figure 5, a guard is mounted upon the tapered end of the casing of the angular corner 21, and this guard serves as a means of controlling the depth of cut of the razor blade when the plates it and II, are adjusted and shifted, a predeter- 25 mined distance within the casing.
It is to be noted that certain changes in form and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
1 claim:
Ina device of the class described a hollow casing having a tapered end, the extremity of said end being rounded, a pair of plates slidably mounted therein and being exposed partly beyond the tapered end of the casing, one edge of said plates being marginally recessed, said plates belng adapted to receive a razor blade between them, bosses on one of said plates, the opposing plate having openings therein in which said bosses are adapted to register, and said bosses being adapted 4 to receive a. razor blade thereon and a guard adapted to be slipped over the tapered end of said casing, one of said corners of said guard be-. ing angularly cut away, said plates when shifted being adapted to expose more or less of said razor blade thru said cut away portion and said guard to control the depth of cutting of said blade, said guard being so formed as to irictionally cling to said casing on the tapering and rounded end thereof. to
