Description
R. B. WHITE. Rope-Holding Device.
No. 204,692. Patented June 11, 1878;
will? N.PEIERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHiNGTON u c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT B. WHITE, OF OHETOPAH, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROPE-HOLDING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,692, dated June 11, 1878; application filed February 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. WHITE, of Ohetopah, Labette county, State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Rack and Spools for Holding Rope; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective view of my invention.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient means for holding rope; and it consists in a series of reels mounted on spindles set on cross-supports in uprights, each alternate cross-support being movable to accommodate the removing and replacing of the reels and rope.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawing,A is a frame-base, from which rise two supports, B B, provided with cross fixed supports 0 O and swinging supporting-brackets D D, arranged alternately with bars or supports G G, and hinged to the upright B. The loose ends of brackets D D are provided with grooves a a, which engage in springs b b on upright B, and keep them in position when closed. Each of the cross-pieces C and D is provided at its center with an upright spindle, d, on which is placed loosely a reel, E, for containing the rope. The upper flanges F of these reels are removable by means of screws e and nuts f, so the coil of rope can rope on the corresponding reel. At the baseof standard B is a pair of heavy on tting-shears,
S, constructed as shown, and connected to a foot-treadle, K, to operate them and cut the rope as lengths are measured oif.
It will be apparent that when the reels on supports or brackets D D are empty, the supports can be swung around and the spools or reels removed for placing on a new coil of rope. When the brackets D are so swung out of position it afiords room to lift off the reels from the fixed supports 0 O for the same purpose.
I thus provide a very convenient and useful rack for holding various sizes of rope when it is desired to measure off and sell irregular lengths.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The supports B B, in combination with a series of fixed and swinging supports and spindles for holding reels, substantially as described.
2. The swinging supports or brackets D D, in combination with supporting-upright B, reel E, and spindle d, as and for the purpose set forth.
ROBERT E. \VHlTE.
