Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM A. SOLOMONS, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,629, dated June 4, 1878; application filed February :26, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM A. SOLO- MONS, of Savannah, in the county of Ghatham and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Composition of Matter, which is fully described in the following specification.
This invention relates to that class of compounds which are to be used in the treatment of various forms of disease; and it consists of a composition formed by mixing with the oil extracted from the saw palmetto (Sabal serulata) sugar-of-milk, in the proportions of one of oil to seven of sugar.
In the preparation of this remedy the herries are placed in any suitable device in which they can be pressed while cold or in their natural condition. The product thus obtained is placed in any suitable vessel, where it is allowed to stand until the oily matter has separated from the saccharine portion of the extract, when the oil is drawn 0d, and is combined with the sugar-of-milk in substantially the proportions above named.
In administering this remedy it will be found that, say, thirty (30) grains, for adults, will be a proper dose, to be used according to circumstances, and that for children one-halt that amount will be suflicient.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A composition of matter consisting of the oil of the berries of the saw palmetto, extracted by pressure, and sugar-of-milk, in about the proportions of one of the oil and seven of the sugar, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ABRAHAM A. SOLOMONS.
