Description
June 30, R. MARCHER FINGER RING AND THE LIKE Filed April 1, 1955 Patented June 30, 1936 V v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FINGER RING AND THE LIKE 1 Application April 1, 1935, Serial No. 14,041
10 Claims.
My present invention relates to the jewelry art and has particular reference to. a novel construction for finger rings and the like.
Ornamental jewelry such as finger rings, brooches, earrings, pendants, and the like, have heretofore depended on beautiful metal work and on the brilliance of stones and. gems. for creating attractive. appearances. These features are entirely visual, as these constructions have not heretofore been successfully designed to add a pleasing scent to an attractive visual appearance.
It is the principal object of my invention to provide a construction which does not detract from the attractiveness of the visual appearance of ornamental jewelry, and which permits the addition of perfumes and the like for imparting a pleasing fragrance to the jewelry.
With the above and other objects and advantageous features in View, as will be more fully explained hereinafter, my invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, and more specifically defined in the claims appended thereto.
In the drawing;
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a finger ring construction illustrating the application of my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section thereof on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear view of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a plan view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the cover in opened position.
It has been found desirable to form an article of jewelry, such as a finger ring, brooch, pendant, pin or the like, so as to have a pleasing odor in addition to a pleasing appearance. Although absorptive pads have been previously used, the articles of jewelry, particularly when comprising ornamental stones, have not been constructed so as to retain the brilliance of the stones or to facilitate the fiow of scented vapor. I have therefore devised a construction utilizing a compartment for receiving perfume absorptive material, which compartment has openings in spaced relation to the ornamental stone or stones, whereby their brilliance is not diminished, and has outlet passages at the sides for permitting free outward flow of the scented vapor.
Referring to the drawing, the invention is illustrated as applied to a finger ring II). The ring includes an ornament base II mounted on the finger band I2, and a cover I3 hinged thereto as at I4, the cover having a spring catch I5 for releasable looking to the base. The cover is preferably of stamped metal having a center opening I6, with struck up portions I! for looking a. stone I8 seated in the center opening and contacting the cover bottom.
The. base I I has vertical sides l9 forming a central opening 20 aligned with the opening I6, whereby the stone may extend therein, and tapered sides 2!, whereby an annular recess 22 is provided to receive an absorbent strip 23, the latter being held in place by straps 24 integral with the sides I9. A series of slots 25 in the sides 20 provide outlet openings, these slots being positioned over the finger band to permit free outlet of the scented vapor.
It is thus evident that the ornamental stone is seated to obtain the maximum visual effect, the perfume is easily applied to the absorbent material container, and the vapor is not restricted in its passage out of the ring. The invention may be readily applied to brooches, pendants, earrings, and other articles of jewelry.
While I have described one specific embodiment of my invention, desired changes in the arrangement of the parts, in their relative size, and in the materials used, may be made to suit the requirements for different jewelry designs, without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover, means securing said cover to said base, said means permitting movement of the cover to expose said recess and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening.
2. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover hingedly secured to said base, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening.
3. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover, means securing said cover to said base, said means permitting movement of the cover to expose said recess, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening, one wall of said recess having vapor outlet openings.
4. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover hingedly secured to said base, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening, one wall of said recess having vapor outlet openings.
5. In a ring construction, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, a finger band secured to said base, an ornamental cover, means securing said cover to said base, said means permitting movement of the cover to expose said recess, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening.
6. In a ring construction, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, a finger band secured to said base, an ornamental cover hingedly secured to said base, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening.
7. In a ring construction, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, a finger band secured to said base, an ornamental cover, means securing said cover to said base, said means permitting movement of the cover to expose said recess, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening, one wall of said recess having vapor outlet openings.
8. In a ring construction, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, a finger band secured to said base, an ornamental cover hingedly secured to said base, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening, one wall of said recess having vapor outlet openings.
9. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess adapted to receive a material containing a vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover, means securing said cover I to said base, said means permitting movement of the cover to expose said recess, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening, one wall of said recess having strap elements to lock said material in said recess.
10. In an article of jewelry, a base having an annular recess. adapted to receive a material containing a Vaporizable fluid and a central opening, an ornamental cover hingedly secured to said base, and an ornament mounted in said cover and extending into said central opening one wall or said recess having strap elements to lock said material in said recess.
