LOOSE LEAF FOLDER Filed Dec. 3, 1934 C'aZVinBSWanZ? ATTO R N EYS Patented May 26, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to loose leaf binders and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which is flexible and free from metallic fasteners and clips and which is readily adjustable to freely accommodate a multiplicity of leaves or inserts and permits easy and quick insertion and removal of the leaves when desired.
With these and other objects in View this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. For a complete uderstanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating a loose leaf folder or binder constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the application of leaves or inserts to the folder.
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the binder or folder open so as todisplay a desired leaf or insert.
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the folder or binder in a closed position.
Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the binder or folder with the lacing removed.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional View showing the lacing securing the leaves or inserts in position to the folder or binder.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l indicates the cover elements of the loose leaf folder or binder joined together by flexible mate- 35 rial 2 forming a hinge portion, and which portion has secured to its inner face a strip 3, and the latter and the hinge portion are provided with a series of openings 4 arranged in groups of three openings to each group. A lacing 5 of a single length is threaded through the openings heretofore mentioned so as to define loop portions 6, the central portion of the lacing lying between strip 3 and portion 2, and the ends of the lacing being anchored after the formation of the loop portions by insertion through certain of the openings 4. To apply loose leaves to the folder or binder, the ends of the lacing are freed from the strip 3 and material 2 and passed through the openings of the leaves and then again anchored to the strip 3 and portion 2 by passing through certain of the openings 4. The leaves thus secured to the binder or folder are capable of being readily turned and due to the particular means of securing the leaves in position, the device in entirety will contain maximum flexibility and eliminates the use of metallic fasteners or clamps and also permits a variable number of leaves to be accommodated. 20
Having described the invention, I claim:
A folder comprising cover elements, a flexible portion connecting said cover elements to act as a hinge therefor, a strip secured to said flexible portion, said flexible portion and strip having 25 openings arranged in a pair of groups with three openings to each group, and a lacing having a central portion lying between said strip and flexible portion and passed through one opening of each group in the strip to connect the lacing .to 30 said flexible portion and the strip and providing a pair of loop portions adapted to be passed through loose leaves to form hinges therefor, and end portions of the lacing being laced through the other openings of said groups of openings of said strip to releasably secure said end portions of the lacing to the strip and flexible portion.
