IMPROVEMENT IN srovss.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,621, dated July 31, 1877; application filed May 24, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY A. SHELBY, of Moscow, in the county of Hickman and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in stoves; and it consists in combining together both a heating and a cooking stove, so that the heat may be used for heating the room alone, or be made to pass from the heatingstove through the cooking-stove, and thus cook and bake the food, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The accompanying drawing represents my invention.
a represents a common heating-stove of any desired construction, in which either wood or coal may be burned, and which is provided with a pipe, 0, for carrying off the products of combustion, and a damper, d, in the same.
Formed with or united to the rear end of this heating-stove is a cooking-stove, e, of any suitable size, shape, or construction, and between the two stoves are placed the two dampers g it.
When it is desired to use the stove a for heating the room alone, the two dampers g h are closed, and the damper d in the pipe 0 is opened just enough to control the heat to any desired degree.
When it is desired to cook articles that are placed on top of the stove, the dampers d h are closed, and the one 9 at the rear upper edge of the stove is opened, when the heat and products of combustion at once pass into the top of the stove along under the holes j and out the pipe l.
When it is desired to use the stove e for baking purposes, the dampers d g are closed, and the one It at the lower edge of the stove a is opened, so that the heat and products of combustion will pass directly under the oven .and up out the pipe I.
