Description

T-. B. JACKSON.
BAG-FASTENING.
No. 193,003. k Patented-July 10,1877.
UNITED STATES THOMAS B. JACKSON, OF WILMINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-FASTENINGS.
Specification formingipart of Letters Patent No. 193,003, dated July 10, 1877 application filed April 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS B. JACKSON, of New Wilmington, in the county of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had. to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved bagfastener or tie; and Fig. 2 is a view, showing the same applied to a bag.
Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by like letters.
This invention relates to a certain improvement in bag fasteners or ties for clamping the neck of the bag to confine its contents; and it consists of two curved bars, hinged or pivoted together at one end, and having their opposite ends provided witharms, one having a hook, and the other a pivoted link or looped bar, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A A refer to two bars, preferably made of' wire, and curved substantially as shown, to adapt them to the neck or contracted portion of the bag, as seen,
around which they are placed and secured to confine its contents. The bars A A are hinged or pivoted together at one end, as at a, to permit of the opening and closing of the same. To the pivot a is connected a lever or handle, 1;, which may be looped or provided with an eye to enable it to be attached by a wire, or other means, to the bag in readiness for use, or to prevent it from-becoming mislaid or lost when the bag is to be opened, or in an empty condition. The curved bars A A are provided at their opposite ends with arms A A, one having a hook, a and the other a pivoted looped bar, link, or bow, of, which, when the bars are in position around the neck of the bag, receives the book a down, upon which the said loop or link is slid, thus clamping the parts around the bag and closing its mouth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat- In combination with the curved bars A A of a bag-fastener, the handle or lever I), having an eye or loop, and the pivot thereof forming the hinge between said bars, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS B. JACKSON.
