Description
Patented Aug. 22, 1933 UNIED STATES PATE 4 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in tie is a return hairpin bend 16 which leads into a.
forms adapted f01 use in facilitating the wearing 01 display of four-in-hancl ties o1 cravats.
It is an object of my invention to provide a tie 5 form 01 this type whicn facilitates the wearing 01 disp1ay of a tie enabling the formation of a uniform and neat knot therewith and Whih acts as a suppo1t for maintaining the knot in said formation.

Referring in detall to the drawing wnerein like numerals refer to like parts throughout the same, the numeral 5 refers to a transversely curved plate Which tapers downwardly. 'Ihe plate 5 has the general outline of the knot to be formed in the tie. The plate 5 has its side edges bent into tubular forms extending upon the concave side 0f the plate and forming open tubular retainers for the sicle members of a wire structure generally clesignated by the numeral 8.
Though I prefer to employ a single piece 01 wire to make the strueture 8, it may, if convenient, be formed of a plu1ality of pieoes 01 wire 01 the like. In using a single piece of wire, one end thereof is bent upon itself toward. the back 01 concave side of the plate 5 so as to form a proteotive eye 9, From the eye 9 the wire extencls, as seen in Figu1e 1, sligh-tly downwardly toward the 11ght and then has a sharp hairpin bend 11 which develops into a straight transverse horizontal portion 12. The horizontal portion 12 is 01 a length to extend aoross the top or Wide end o1 the plate 5 ancl be bent downwardly and inwardly as at 13 so as t0 form a side member which is reoeived throug'n the open tubular retainer 7. At the point where the sicle member emerges from the lower encl 01 the retainer 7, the wire is bent at 14 towarcl the retainer 6 and toward the concavecl back of the plate ancl then canied almost aoross the narrow enc1 of the plate 5 and slightly downwardly to form a straight por tion 15. At the terminal of the portion 15 there short horizontal portion 17 Whioh is spaced above the portion 15 and which is carried across the plate 5 toward the bencl 14. Ehe portion 17 leads angularly away from the plate. The portion 17 terminates in a downward hairpin bend 18 from Which leads a horizontal portion 19 which is spaoed below and substantially parallel to the portion 17. 'Ihe portion 19 extends entirely aoross the plate 5 to the lower end 01 the open tubular retainer portion 6, where it is directed upwardly th1ough the retainer 6 until it emerges as at 20, at which point "lt is solclered or is otherwise suitably seoured to the horizontal portion 12 as indicated. at 21, inwardly 01 the band 11.
Referenoe to Figure 5 Will disclose the location 01 the portions 15, 17 anc1 19 in different vertioal planes, the portion 19 being angularly di1ected. away from the plate 5, the portion 1 7 being angular1y displaoed Witn respect to the portion 19 toward the plate 5, anal the portion 15 being locatec'l nearest througnout 1ts length to the back 01 the plate 5. It W111 alsdoe observed that the band 18 is curvedly clefleoted away from the back 01 the plate to provide a guide for facilitatin'g the introc uction 01 the smal1 end 01 the tie between the memoers 17 anal 19 on the one hand, and the member 15 on the other hand, as indicated in Figure 1. '11uis assembly acts upon the small encl o:f the tie as a clamp as Will be explain-ed. 1t should be stated .at this point that the protective eye 9 ancl the portion 10 on which it is looateol are ca1r1@cl substantially in the same vertical plane as the plate 5.
In applying the tie forrn 01 my invention, the 1arge o1 wir1e encl portion 01 the tie may be threaded. u.pon the plate 5 in any desirable manner, but that suggested in Figure 1 has been found. to be satisfaotory. Ehe wide end of the tie is snown therein wounc1 transversely on the platze 5 and introduced upwardly between the plate 5 ancl the assemloly 15, 17 and 19, and then brought upward1y oval the portion 12, then between the plate 5 and. the transversely Wound. portion of the tie. In this warmer the tie Will be retained am]. malntainecl in the desired uniform and. neat1y tied eonc1ition. Whenever it is des-ired to wear the tie 01 to mount it upon a clevioe fo1 displaying the the small end, of the tie is brought about the neck 01 an equivalent oojeot, then tnxeac1ed between the protestive eye 9 and 1ts oarrying portion 10 011 the one band and the portion 12 on other band, then led downwardly as seen in Figure 1 and drawr'1 between the members 17, 19, on the one hand, and the member 15 on the other band, so as 170 be he1d firm1y thereby at the desired tension. Of course, this arrangement permits ready adjust ment of the tension 130 suit the taste and comfort 0f the wearer, without disturbing the knot. The tie is thus saved the wear and tear of repeated tying and untying, a uniform knot is maintained at all times, and the donning ofthe tie is made easy and quick as we11 as the removal thereof.
Though I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of the invention, changes in size, shape and materials may be made without departure from the spirit 0f the invention and the scope 0f the subjoined c1aims.
What is claimed is:.
l. A necktie form comprising a convex-concave plate having two opposite edges benbonthe comcave 01 hack.side of the plateinto open tubular retainers,.a wirebent into a polygonal shape and providing-opposite:straightide portions in and .secured'bythe tubular retainers, a straighttran& Verse member connecting.the straight-side portions at one end,.a guide on.and extending beyond one end of the transverse member and having a portion spacedabove the-transversemember, and
-tie clamping means .earried byarld between the .lower ends o'f the .straig'ht side members, .said .elamping means comprisinga clamparm extend- .ingiransversely 01 the platze fromthe=lower end of .each straight side member.a return.bend onthe iree.end of.each ofsaid clamp. arms,-aconnection between the return.bends one:of.the clamparms and'the connectionbeingadapted toact with the remaining clamp arm for reeeiving and holding a.portion of a.necktie pressed therebetween.

A necktie form comprisinga tapered comvex-concavarlate, retaining tubes vor1 the opposite tapered edges of the vplate and extendingon the concave or-back face of the -p1ate a polygona] wire form composed of straig'ht side members, a straight end member, and a clamping endmember, Ehe straight side members being heldin the tubu1ar retainers, the straight end.member being thereby positioned across and spaced from the wide end of the-plate and the clamping end member across Ehe narrow end of the plate, anextension on one end 015 the straight end -member a return bend thereon.and a guide arm extending therefrom so as to be spaced above and over the straight end-member, said clamping end member comprising a pair of clamparms .extended from the straight side members a1; the narrow end of the .plate toward opposite sides cf the p1ate and away from the eoncave back face of the plate in .over'lapping relation, a return bend on the outward end of each clamping arm, and a connection extending between the outward ends of the clamping arms, a portion of a tie beingadapted 150 be pressed between one arm and the connection and the remaining clamp arm and be held.
3. A necktie form comprising a tapered convex-concave plate, retaining tubes on the opposite tapered edges of the plate and extending 011 ehe concave 01 back face of the plate, a polygonal wire form composed 01 straight side members, a straight end mernber, and a clamping end memher, the straight side members being held in the tubular retainers, the straight end member beingthereby positioned across and spaced from the wideen'd 'of the platze and the clamping end 'member across the narrow end 0f the plate, an
. extension on one end 0f the straight end member, a return band thereon and a guide arm extending rtherefrom so as to be spaced above and over the straight end member, said clamping end member compfisinga pair of clamp arms extended from thesidamembers atthe narrow end of the plate toward opposite sides 0f *the p1ate and away from the concave back face of the p1ate in overlapping relation, a return.bend on the outward end of each clamping arm, and a conneetion extending between'the outward er1ds 0f the clamping arms, a portion of a tie being adapted to be pressed between one arm and the connection and'the rernaining clamp armand beheld, the last-men- Lioned return bends being upwardly directed so as to position the connection spacedabove the clamparms.

A necktie form comprising a tapered comvex-concave p1ate, rtaining tubes 011 ehe opposite tapered edges of the plate and extending 011 the concave or back face cf the plate, a'polygonal wire form composed of sraight side members, a straight end member, and a clamping end memher, Ehe straight side members being he1d in the tubular retainers, Ehe straigho end'member being thereby positioned across and spaced from the wide end 0f theplate and the clamping end member across thenarrow end 0f the plate, anextension on one end of the straight end member, a return bend thereon an'd a'guide arm extending therefrom so as to be spaced above and over the straight end mernber, said clamping end member comprising a pair of clamparrns extended'from t'he side members ab the narow end of the'plate to- 'Ward opposite sides of the plate and away from ehe concave back faee of she plate in overlapping relation, a return 'bend 011 bhe ouwardend of each clamping arm, and a connection extending between the outward ends of the clamping arm, a
