The cap or member G, is rigidly connected with the casing C, although in a removable manner, by means of countersunk set screws 98, shown in Figure 4 of the drawings, which are mounted in openings in a reduced inner end 92 of the member G, and thus secreted in the hub H when the lock is in position. The cap G is provided with an outer annular wall which covers the outer end surface of the cylinder lock casing C, and which vhas an opening therein snugly and rotatably receiving the head portion 64 of the plug D; as shown in Figure 8. It will be noted from Figures 2. and 8 of the drawings that the cap G receives the entire portion of the casing C- therein upon which the tumbler.mechanism is mounted, so that the springs of the tumbler mechanism are retained by this cap.
The'relation in which'the cylinder lock may be turned in the sleeve lock support H is limited for a proper throw control of the bolt mechanism L. This is accomplished by'providing a.
which has a reduced end 106 projecting into a slotv 107. The latter is recessed for a short distance circumferentially about the outer surface of. the cylinder lock casing C, in order that the casing may be thrown for a turn which will enable the bolt mechanism L to be drawn into or out of position with respect to the keepers (not-shown) provided therefor.
From the foregoing description of this invention it is believed the operation and control of the locking mechanism will be apparent. In order to unlock the bolt mechanism L for access to the container upon which the lock mechanism is used,
the key F is inserted into the position shown in Figure 2, forproperly positioning the tumblers of the tumbler mechanism. Upon turning of the keyF to the right, for a short angular turn, rthe plug D will be rotated, and through its cam connection with the plunger K the latter will be withdrawn from the keeper socket 71, to the position shown in Figure 8 of the drawings. The cap G is provided with'diametrically opposed handle extensions 110 which may then be grasped by the operator and the-entire cylinder lock casing, together with the cap G' and key mechanism thereon, may be rotated for throwing the bolt mechanism L to an unlocked position. It will be noted that so long as the plunger K is in the unlocked position shown in Figure 8, the key F can- --Various changes in the shape, size, and ar'-' rangement of parts may be made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the 4 vactuatingcam carried by the plug, tumbler mech-i anism in said passageways of the cylinder casing andplug for controlling rotation of the plug with! in the cylinder casing, and a caprigidly and removably anixed upon the outer end "of the cylinder 'casing'with the latter. in a'secreted relation therein, said cap overlying and holdingthe tumbler mechanism in position in the said passageways and having a front wall secreting the cylinder casing and provided with an opening therein exposing the outer end of the plug,
