This invention relates to new and useful improvements in electric switch mountingsfor vehicle spot lamps. I
It is the principal object of my invention to provide for. a vehicle spot lamp of the type shown in my United States Letters Patent No. 1,720,836, an electric control switch mounting "that is attached to the tube through'which the operating shafts project. The supporting plate mounting is designed to depend from the tube near the supporting post forconvenient actuation bythe spot lamp operator.
Other important and incidental objects will be brought out in the following specification and particularly set forth in the subjoined claim.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sec tional view taken through the spot lamp, showmg my improved electric sw1tch mount-. ing. Figure 2 is a perspective view from the rear, of the spot lamp applied to the corner post of an automobile, showing the convenience of my improved switch mounting.

Referring to the accompanying drawing for a detailed description of my invention,
the numeral 1 designates the front corner post of an automobile,to which a sleeve bracket 2 is attached-by screws 3, 3. The bracket 2 comprises a cylindrical casting which tightly receives an outside tube 4-.
Adapted to turn around the tube 4 in front of the sleeve bracket 2 is a gear housing 5 by which a spot lamp 6 is pivotally sup ported. At the rear end of said tube 4 is a sectional, spherical handle portion"? for operating the lamp 6.
Secured upon the tube 4 near the rear side of the post 1, is an electric switch supporting bracket 8. Although it may assume any other suitable form, this bracket consists of a sector-shaped plate 9 formed with'a boss 10 on its axial end. A cylindrical hole projects through this boss and the plate to it the tube 4, whereby the plate may he slipped upon the tube for support by it near the post 1.
While the top of the boss 10 is curved to conform to the contour of the tube 4, it is formed on its lower surface with an inclined fiat face 11 against which the head of a screw constituting I this a radial tapped holeinto engagement with the tube. By means of this screwthe bra'cket plate 8 is firmly secured to thetub'e.
Attached to the inner face of the bracket plate 9 by shoulderedlugs 13 is a channel member 14 to receive the movable contact piece 15 of a conventional sliding electric switch. This sliding contact piece 15 is adapted to bridge two terminal lugs 16, 16 j that are fitted in holes in a fiber base plate 17 secured to the channel member 14 by connecting ears 18 on the latter. A knurled thumb projection 19 for actuating the contact slide 15, projects through a slot 20 in the plate for easy operation by the'driver of the car.

This projection 19 is formed with a recess 21 to receive a coil spring 22 adapted to exert an inward pressure upon the metal bridge element 23 of the sliding .contact, through a 'guiding member 24,'U-shapedin cross section, which is free to move in said recess.v I i Attached by a screw 25 to one terminallug 16"of the switch is a wire 27 which leads through the hollow post 1, sleeve bracket 2 and gear h0usingr5 to thespot lamp 6. By mounting an electric switch such asv the one described on the suporting tube 4 between thehandle7 and thejpost 1, it is placed in a position for operation to control the H 'lumination'of the spot lamp 6 in a manner as easy as the latter is turned by the handle 7. I v
Having described my invention, I claim:
The combination with a supporting post, of a horizontal tube secured thereto, an-elecv trio spot lamp onone end of said tube,
handle means on the other end of the latter for turning the lamp, an electric switch support, a sector shaped bracket plate to whose lower end the switch support is applied, and a boss on the upper end of said plate, said boss and the portion of the plate from which it projects being formed with a round hole to fit said tube, and wholly supporting the electric switch outof contact with said post between the latter and the handle means.
