Inventor @mes A Mc/Vey ByQw July 18, 1933. J. A. MONEY STEAM AND HOT WATER GENERATOR Filed Sept. l2. 1932 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 nvenlor James /1 Mc/Vey Home y Patented July `18, 1933 PATENT OFFICE JAMES A. MCNEY, OF HARDING, PENNSYLVANIA STEAM AND HOT WATER GENERATOR Applicationfiled September 12, 1932. Serial No. 632,844.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in liquid heaters and vaporiZers, and more particularly to a heater of the electrical type.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a heater for boilers and the lilie wherein an electrical element is involved and wherein the heater is in the form ot a unit capable of being easily inserted into and removed with respect to a boil-er.
Other objects and advantages prevail and will be observed from the .following speciii cation;
In the drawings Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view through a boiler showing the heating unit installed therein.
Fig. 2 represents a horizontal sectional view on line 2 2 oit Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of' the boiler.
yF ig. 4 represents a vertical sectionaly view through the heating unit.
Fig. 5 represents a bottom plan view of the heating unit.
Fig. 6 represents a cross sectional view ktaken substantially on line 6-6 ot' Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings wherein lit-A numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the boiler provided with the head 6 and the bottom 7. This boiler is mounted on suitable legs S and has the inlet pipe 9 and outlet pipe 10 in the usual manner.
Tn carrying out the present invention the bottom plate 7 is provided with a circular opening therein for receiving the barrel 11 of the heating unit generally referred to by numeral 12.
This barrel 11 at its lower end is fixed to the closure plate 13 which has openings 14 therein ttor receiving bolts 15. These bolts 15 are disposed thru openings in the bottom plate 7 surrounding the aforementioned opening therein and are equipped with nuts 1G so that the plate 13 can be clamped against the bot-tom of the plate 7 in a snug manner, and it desired, suitable packing material can be interposed between the plate 13 and the plate 7.
In the barrel 11 in spaced relation with respect to the plate 13is a partition 17 having openings therein corresponding to the shape of the tubes 18 and 19. These tubes 18 are of the flat type whereas the tubes 19 are of the cylindrical type. These tubes 18 and 19 are alternately placed in a circular arrangement and extend vertically within the barrel 11, the lower ends extending through the openings in the lower plate 17, while the up- ;er ends extend through corresponding openings in the top 2O of' the barre-l.
The barrel 11 is provided with openings 21 therein between the plate 13 and the partition 17 so that water can enter the barrel from the interior ot the boiler 5 and pass upwardly through the tubes 1S and 19 to discharge through the upper end of the unit 12.
Numeral 22 represents a die-electric conduit extending upwa diy through the plate 13 to meet the plate or partition 17 and this merges at its lower end in a shell 23 receiving the electrical connector 24. Numeral 25 represents electrical conductor wires leading to the connector 24. lu connection with the electrical connector 24 is an electrical heating element 2G which extends upwardly and terminates within the shell or barrel l1. (See Fig. 4)
lVhile the foregoing' specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to witlr out departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new is In a boiler, a heat-ing device comprising a barrel having one end closed and adapted for attachment to the boiler, the opposite end o'l the barrel being closed, a plurality of water tubes extending longitudinally in the barrel, a partition across the interior of the barrel in cl'ose spaced relation to the attaching end ot the barrel deiining a water receiving chamber and a heating chamber, said barrel being provided with an opening at the water receiving chamber, said water tubes opening' at their ends through the said partition and second mentioned end of the barrel, and a heating element extending longitudinally in the barrel at substantially -the longitudinal axial portion thereotl and in respect to which the tubes are radially disposed.
