Description
July 4, 1933. A. SOFFEL 1,916,238
DISPLAY CABINET Filed Jan. 5, 1930 /7Z5E/ 7* Z JOA-FEA Patented July 4, 1933 ALBERTA L. SOFFEL, F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA DIEPLAY CABINET Application filed January 3, 1930. Serial No. 418,190.
My invention relates to a display cabinet and has, for its principal object, the prov1- sion of a relatively simple, inexpensive and attractive cabinet or container that is especially designed for holding and displaying within a show case or any show window, supply of small objects of merchandise, such as the metal boxes and tubes that are utilized for holding cosmetics and particularly compacts of face powder, rouge, lipsticks and the I like.
My present invention is an improvement upon the display cabinet that forms the subject matter of an application for patent filed 5 by me July 30th, 1929, Serial No. 382,127.
2 Further objects of my invention are, to generally improve upon and simplify the construction of the display cabinet set forth in my aforesaid patent application, further,
0 to provide a cabinet havlng readily adjustable partitions that are readily adjustable in order to accommodate difierent sizes and shapes of cosmetic containers and further, to provide a cabinet having one or more removable cups that will receive and display in a convenient manner a number of small articles such as the metal containers of lipsticks. j
With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
cabinet constructed in accordance invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the holders that is adapted to receive a number of small articles such as lipstick containers. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. i is a cross section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates a base panel that is preferably formed of wood and arranged on the under face thereof, adjacent to its corners, are small semi-spheriwith m Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a display cal studs 11, preferably of rubber which serve as feet to support the panel a short distance above the bottom of a show case or counter.
' Secured in any suitable manner on topof the rear end of the base panel 10 is a block 12 having a semi-circular recess 13, formed u in its front face. Secured ontop of the base panel, near its front end, is a block 14 that is practically identical with the block 12 and formed in the rear face of said block 1% is a substantially semi-circular recess 15.
Secured on topof the base panel 10, immediately adjacent to its front end, are up right pins or studs 16 and the space between these pins or studs and the front face of block 1 1 is adapted to be occupied by a box or container that functions as a sample to show the character of the goods contained in the cabinet on which said sample is positioned.
Formed in the base panel 10 between the blocks 12 and 14 and adjacent to the side edges of the panel are longitudinally disposed parallel slots 17 Arranged on top of the base panel, between ,3. the blocks 12 and 14, is-a seriesof partition Q blocks 18 and formed in the front and rear facesthereof are substantially semi-circular recesses 19. Each of the blocks 18 is arranged to be adjusted lengthwise on the base panel and such adjustment is afforded by use of two screws 20 which pass through the slots 17 and enter the lower portion of the body of each block.
When these screws are loosened to a slight degree the blocks may be readily shifted lengthwise on the base panel so as to vary the spaces between the blocks for the accommodation of cosmetic containers of different sizes and shapes and to secure the blocks to v the base panel it is only necessary to tighten the various screws so as to clamp the blocks 1 against the base panel.
As a result of my improved construction a series of substantially upright cylindrical chambers are formed between the fixed and adjustable blocks and which chambers are adapted to receive the small circular metal boxes that are now generally used as holders for compacts of face powder, rouge and the like.
In order to conveniently hold a number of tubular metal containers such as are utilized as holders of lipsticks, is tubular member 21, which may be formed of celluloid, sheet metal or the like, may be positioned in the pockets between the partition blocks and the lipstick containers positioned within said tubular member as illustrated in Fig. 3.
My improvement display cabinet may be painted or decorated so as to present a neat and finished appearance and said cabinet is very compact, may be conveniently handled and in addition to displaying goods in an attractive manner serves as a convenient holder for a large number ofindividual articles of merchandise.
An especially desirable feature of my invention is the adjustability of the intermediate blocks or partitions for by properly adjusting these blocks the cabinet serves as a storage container for a number of small boxes or compact containers of different sizes and shapes.
The box or container that is arranged for display on the forward end of the cabinet is retained in position by the pins or studs 16 and said box or container may be opened while the cabinet is positioned within a show case or show window, thus enabling prospective purchasers to readily observe the color and character of the merchandise.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a display cabinet that is especially designed for holding and displaying small articles of merchandise such as the holders of powder and rouge compacts, also the holders of lipsticks and which cabinet is relatively simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts ofmy improved display cabinet may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A display cabinet, comprising an elongated base panel, blocks fixed on top of said panel adjacent to its ends, the inner faces of which fixed blocks are provided with substantially semi-circular recesses, a plurality of partition blocks adjustably mounted on top of the base panel between said fixed blocks, the front and rear faces of which partition blocks are provided with semi-circular recesses which cooperate with each other and with the recesses in the fixed blocks to form a plurality of vertically disposed co1n partments, said base panel being provided between the fixed blocks with longitudinally disposed parallel slots and screws passing upwardly through said slots and seated in the lower portions of said partition blocks for securing the same to the base panel in differently adjusted positions.
2. A display cabinet, comprising an elongated base panel, a block secured on the rear end of said panel, a block secured on said panel a short distance rearwardly from the forward end thereof, a plurality of partition blocks mounted for individual adjustment upon the base panel between said blocks, each partition block being provided in its front and rear faces with substantially semi-circular recesses which cooperate with each other and with the recesses in the fixed blocks to form storage compartments, said base panel being provided between said fixed blocks with a pair of longitudinally disposed slots, screws passing upwardly through said slots into the lower portions of said adjustable partitions for securing the same to the base panel in differently adjusted positions and means positioned on front of the front one of the fixed blocks for retaining an object on the panel in front of said front fixed block. a
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ALBERTA L. SOFFEL.
