Description

June 20, 1933. J. L. BOYETT 1,914,800
HAND TOOL Filed July 21, 1932 Patented June 20, 1933 PATENT OFFICE JOHN L. IBOYETT, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS HAND TOOL Application filed July 21, 1932. Serial No. 623,707.
This invention r lates to a hand tool. An object of the invention is to provide a tool of the character described, specially designed for use in repairing tire tubes, and for similar purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tool of the character described whereby the tube to be repaired may be readily deflated and cleansed about the puncture and prepared for the reception of a patch for closing the puncture.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to cer- [a tain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side view of the tool.
Figure 2 shows an outer end View.
Figure 3 shows a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4; shows a side View of the tool as applied in use.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates a tube one end of which is reduced forming the point 2 which is provided with perforations 3. The outer end tube is flared as at 4 and the outer end of said flared portion is closed by the plate 5 whose outer surface is roughened.
The flared portion 4 is provided with one or more perforations as 6.
In use when the puncture of the inner tube 7 is located the point 2 may be inserted through said puncture and the air within the tube will readily enter through the perforations 3 and pass out through the tube 1 and perforations 6 so that the tube may be readily deflated. It will not be necessary, therefore, to hold the tube valve open to deflate the tire tube as now commonly done.
When the tube 7 is deflated the tool may be reversed and the plate 5 applied to the area of the tube around the puncture so that the same may be readily cleansed preparatory to receiving the patch for closing the puncture.
The drawing and description disclose what is now considered to be a preferred form of the invention by way of illustration only, while the broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A tool of the character described comprising a tube, one end of which is formed Go with a perforated point and whose other end is flared, said flared end being perforated and in outer end plate closing said flared porion.
2. hand tool comprising a tube one end of wh1ch has a perforated point and the other end of which is flared, said flared portion beng perforated, and an outer end plate closmg the flared end and having a roughened r external surface. so
In testimony whereof I have signed my name.
JOHN L. BOYETT.
