rusn BUTTON vanvn Application illed April 12, 1932. Serial No. 604,737. v
en on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in n The invention relates to a push button valve and more especially to a push button control for water su ply systems in bathy rooms, kitchens or ot er places.
5 The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, where- 1n for example,l water to' be supplied to a bathtub, basin or other fixture, can be conveniently controlled through the use of a push button, thereby elimlnating the conventional use of faucets or the like with the turn valves or other forms of hand controlled valves, the device being novel in form and is readily and conveniently operable so that 15 water supply will be controlled for the admis` sion of water or the cutting off thereof at will. Another` obj ect of the invention is the pro# vision of a device of this character, wherein the same is susce tible of mounting in the wall of a room andp will control a iiuid supply as the su ply will be regulated under the use of pus buttons, these being manually depressed 'for the opening or closlng of the l control for the Huid supply, the valve for the S5 Asupply and the mounting of the device being novel in their structural make-up.
A further object of the invention is theprovision of a device of this character which 1s extremely simple in construction, effec,-
3 tive as a single control, thoroughly reliable and eicient in its purpose, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture and installation.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as be hereinafter more fully de-k scribed in d1.letaih illlsltlrtei the lpccomanymg wings `w 'c iscose t epreerred embodiment of the invention, and
40 mted out in the claims hereunto Vappend- Inv the accom anying drawingmgmentary elevation artly diagrammati y shown of a ba tub with the wafer supply stem and the push button device constru in accordance with the' invention in association.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the push button device.
l Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional viewtak the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is an elevation partly broken away. p i
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the deflector at the bottom of the tub.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views inthe drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generallyla bathtub which is of conventional type having a water inlet lead B communicative with the tub A through its bottom and this lead B through the branches and 11 is common to the hot and cold water conduits or pipes 12 and 13 respectively, while above the tub is arranged a shower equipmentlt' having the pipe 15 Aleading thereto from the branches 16 and 17 respectively from the pipes 12 and 13. i Iutersect`v ing the branches 10 and 11 and 15 and 16, each,l is a valve casing including the sections, 18 and 19 res ectively, these being intertted and threaded) together. The section 18 is formed with an internal valve seat 20 normally engaged by a valve 21 which is held seated under the tension of a s ring 22 held in place by the section 19 which is formed internally thereof with an anchoring shoullder 23 for the spring 22.
. Suitably built into the wall y24 of an inclosure constituting the bathroom is a frame I 25 having 'a face plate 26 and this frame supports a coupling plate 27 for nipples 28 on the sections 18v of the valve casings. The' the latter vbein vprojected through a suitable o vening there ore in the face plate 26. InA
nipples'28 are held with the cou ling plate 27 set screws 29'., The nip es 28 each is instance there is provided a series of four ush buttons,- one for the branch 10, another or the branch 11,l another for the branch v16 and another for theV branch.. 17 as will be clearly` apparent in Figure 2 ofthe drawings. lEach stem 31 is formed with /a series of spaced vratchet rings or shoulders 33 for successive engagement of a slid' dog 84 lit-ted 1 in upon a shiftable p ate 36.` v'Each between'ears 38 on t e do dog 34 is tensioned b a spring 37 mounted 34 and ears 39 on the plate 36 respective y, the spring 37 yieldably urging the dog 34 in latching relation to the rings or shoulders 33 as will be clearly apparent :from Figures 3 and 4 of the The shiftable plate 36'is mounted in guides 40 on the coupling plate 27 and is tensioned by springs 41 connected therewith and with said plate 27. The plate 36 is formed with a top ledge 42 which normally rests upon the uppermost guides 40 and constitutes a stop for limiting he downward movement of said plate 36 in the frame 25.
Arranged in the frame 25 between the face plate 26 and the coupling plate 27 is a shiftable oke 43 provided centrally thereof with a pus button 44, the latter protruded through a suitable yo ning to without the face plate 26 v and this yo e is provided with lifter cams 45,
these engageable with the shiftable plate 36,
l the yoke 43 being tensioned by springs 46 con- .the springs-22 upon the valves 21 and these springs also will cause the closing of said valves. On depressing each of the buttons 32 the valve 21 controlled thereby will be opened and the stem 31 of said button 32 will be latched by the dog 34 engaging in one of the shoulders or rings 33, these shoulders or rings determinin` the opening extent of the valves'21 under epression of the buttons 32. As has been stated, to release the buttons 32 depressed the button 44 is depressed so that the lifter cams 45 willl lift the'plate 36 and the' buttons 32 be instantly released for the automatic closing of the valves 21. In this manner of operation of the valves 21 the water supply to the lead B and to the lead 1.5 will be controlled, either full supply had,
vor complete cutting o thereof.
The lead B communicating with the .tub A at its bottom has fitted therein a delector cap 47 supported upon a bolt 48 held in a spider 49 and this cap functions to break up` the stream 'of water under pressure from the lead B because otherwise .the stream would rise above the top of the tub and thusthe water will be deected about the bottom of said tub A without any possibility of an elevation of the stream so that in this manner the tub will be filled with water and the drain therefrom YAishadthrou h the discharge'pipe 50 leading fromth ottom of the tub.Y
05 It should be-apparent that the push button control as hereinbefore described is' a plicable for the regulation .of Huid supp y lother than water, although such .control is designed primarily for use with water fix.- tures, such as bathtubs, washbowls, sinks or the like. v
There'is a single button 32 for the hot water supply and for the cold water supply, while a slngle button is for the release of the before mentioned buttons.
What is claimed is 1. The combination with a `iiuid supply lead, of a valve within said-lead and normally closed, a push button active upon the valve to open the same, means for regulating the extent of opening movement of said valve, and a.y push button operated means for re,- leasing the first named push button when depressed.
