MOUNT FOR TOY RAILWAY UNITS This invention relates to toy railways, and more particularly to mounting, stacking and storing toy railway units of the character described in my copending application Serial No. LQELSTS, filed December a, 1930.
The principal object of this invention is to provide means for mounting or supporting and stacking or storing said units.
Preferably said means comprise a plurality of upright members or legs adapted to engage one or more of said units at a plurality of spaced points whereby said upright members will serve as a mount or support for said units, as well as a rack for stacking or storing the same, and whereby said unit or units shall in turn act as the sole means for joining said upright members together, though not necessarily.

In Figs. 1, 3, 7, 9 and 10 there is shown an assembly of three complementary units 1, 2 andB comprising each a base panel at at the outer edges of which are mounted wooden guard rails 5, 5 or the like. layout consisting of intercoupled track sections. The guard rails of adjacent units are connected to each other by dowel pins 6, 6.
In order to support or mount and stack or store said units or assembly of units, I pro vide a plurality of upright members, mounts or legs 7 7 having notches or grooves 8, 8 therein (see Fig. 6) for receiving each an edge of one of the units.
In the embodiment of Figs. 1 to in- 60 elusive I provide the upright members wit- h recesses 9, 9 communicating with the grooves, into which recesses are inserted elements 10, 10 containing a spring-projected element 11 which is arranged to be projected into depressions 12, 12 disposed in the guard rails at appropriate spaced points. To prevent the wearing away of the wood (in case the guard rail is of wood) at the edge circumscribing the depression 12, I may provide a metal plate 13 having a concavity 14: arranged to fit into said depression and to cover a suitable area of the guard rail adjacent said depression, all of which is clearly illustrated in Fig. 6a.
In the embodiment of Figs. 6b to 10 inelusive I provide an alternative arrangement for coupling the uprights to the units. This consists in providing in the upright members slots 15, 15 communicating with 89 the grooves 8, 8 for receiving a flange of a rib in the form of an angle iron 16, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6b.
In the first described embodiment the up right member is snapped on to the unit by inserting the edge of a unit into the groove 8 thereof. The engagement of the element. 11 in the depression 12 prevents inadvertent or accidental separation of the upright from the unit as well as inadvertent or accidental longitudinal displacement.
In the second described embodiment the upright member is secured to a unit by first inserting an edge of said unit at a point 5 free of the angle iron into, a groove of said member and the member is then slid toward an end of the angle iron whereupon the upstandlng flange will enter the slot 15 communicating W1th said groove, and the member can then be slid along said angle iron to any desired position.
Any desired number of uprights may be employed to support the assembly of units (Figs. 1, 3, 7, 9 and 10), and the uprights may be of any desired height and have any desired number of grooves. Disassembly of the units accomplished by removing the dowel pins and separating the track sections projecting from abutting panels, and stacked or stored as indicated in Figs. 4, 5, 6a, 6b and 8.
In Figs. 9 and 10 there is shown a unit 17 mounted to form an upper level. The track thereon is connected to the lower track layout by the portions of track 18, 18.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. The combination of a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel and an upright supporting member having means for engaging and intcrfitting with an edge of said unit.
2. The combination of a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel and an upright supporting member having a groove in a side thereof for receiving an edge of said unit.
3. The combination of a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel, an upright supporting member having a groove in a side thereof for receiving an edge of said unit and means for latching said member to said unit.
at. The combination of a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel and a plurality of individually detachable mounts engaging the edges of the panel, each of said mounts being individually slidable along an edge of said unit and supporting said unit.
5. In combination, a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel, and a plurality of upright supporting members engaging and interfitting with certain edges of said unit at spaced points.
6. In combination, a toy railway unit of the character described having depressions at spaced points along certain edges or sides thereof, and a plurality of individually detachable mounts therefor each having a groove receiving a side or edge of said unit and a spring-projected element inserted in a depression.
7. In combination, a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel having projecting flanges along certain sides or edges thereof, and a plurality of mounts for said unit slotted to receive said flanges.
8. In combination, a toy railway unit of the character described having angle irons mounted along certain sides or edges thereof, and a plurality of mounts engaging said angle irons and supporting said unit.
9. Means for supporting a plurality of toy railway track panel units in superposed relationship, comprising a plurality of upright members having means at vertically spaced points for engaging and interfitting with the edges of superposed units.
10. In combination, a plurality of superposed toy railway units each comprising a track-bearing panel, and a plurality of individually detachable means for interfitting with and supporting said units in said relation.
11. In combination, a toy railway unit of the character described, and a plurality of upright members joined to said unit at a plurality of spaced points to provide a mount for said unit, and said members or certain of them being individually slidable or adjustable along said unit to change the spacial relationship or positions of said members.
12. In combination, a plurality of toy railway units in superposed relation and a plurality of supporting members therefor, said members having separated notches in their sides to receive the edges of said units, and means associated with each of said units and each of said notches to hold said units and said members in engagement.
13. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having means for engaging an edge of said unit to support the latter with said plane surface in substantially horizontal po sition.
14. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having a groove therein arranged to receive an edge of said unit to support the latter with said plane surface in substan- T tially horizontal position.
15. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having a groove in a side thereof for receiving an edge of said unit to support the latter with said plane surface in substantially horizontal position.
16. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having means intermediate its ends for engaging an edge of said unit to support the latter with said plane surface in substantially horizontal position.
17. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having a groove intermediate its ends for engaging an edge of said unit to support the latter with said plane surface in substantially horizontal position.
18. A mount for a toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, comprising an upright member having a groove in a side thereof engage and interfit for receiving an edge of said unit and means for latching said member to said unit to support the latter with said surface in substantially horizontal position.
19. A toy railway unit of the character described having a substantially plane surface, supported by a plurality of individually detachable mounts to support the unit with said surface in substantially horizontal position.
20. A toy railway unitof the character described having a substantially plane surface supported by a plurality of individually detachable mounts to support the unit with said surface in substantially horizontal position, each of said mounts being individually slidable along an edge of said unit.
21. In combination, a toy railway unit of the character described with a substantially plane surface, and a mount therefor comprising a plurality of upright members engaging said unit at spaced points and supporting said unit with said surface in substantially horizontal position, said unit beingthe sole means for joining said upright members together.
22. In combination, a toy railway unit of the character described with a substantially plane surface, and a plurality of individuall slidable upright means joined to said unit at a plurality of spaced points to provide a mount for said unit and support said unit with said surface in substantially horizontal position.
23. In combination, a toy railway unit comprising a track-bearing panel, a mount therefor comprising an upright supporting member, and interfitting means carried by said panel and said member for detachably securing said member to said panel against direct movement away from the edge thereof.
24:. In combination, a toy railway track panel having a rib adjacent an edge thereof, and a mount therefor engaging said rib.
25. In combination, a toy railway track panel having guard rails mounted along the edge thereof with concavities therein, and a mount therefor having a groove in the side thereof for engaging said guard rails and av spring projected element in said groove for insertion in one of said concavities, whereby the said mount-will be secured to said panel.
26. In combination, a toy railway track panel having guard rails mounted along certain edges thereof, a rib secured to and extending along said guard rail, and a mount for said panel comprising an upright supporting member having a groove in a side thereof for receiving said guard rails and a counter groove for receiving said rib.
27. In combination, a toy railway track panel, and a support therefor arranged to with the edge of said panel.
28. In combination, a toy railway track panel, and an upright support therefor, said panel and said support being arranged to he slid relatively with respect to each other.
29. In combination, a toy railway layout comprising a plurality of complementary trac; panels, and supporting means therefor adapted to engage and inter-fit with the edges of said panels to support said panels in connected relation and in superposed relation.
30. In combination, a toy railway layout comprising a plurality of complementary track panels, and a plurality of upright members supporting said panels at spaced points therealong, certain of said members being adapted to engage and interfit with the edges of said panels to support a panel at different levels.
31. In combination, a toy railway layout comprising a plurality of complementary track panels, and supporting means therefor comprising a plurality of upright members constructed each to receive and interfit with an edge of a panel and said members being arranged to support the panels at one predetermined level in connected relation and certain of said members being adapted to support certain of said panels on different levels, whereby the said panels may be supported in connected relation or stacked in superposed relation.
