PATENT- OFFICE INCORPORATEDfOF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A- CORPORATION SMOKERS STAND Application filed October 3, 1932. Serial No. 635,944.
This invention relates to an improvement in smokers stands and particularly to devices of this character which comprise a base, a top and a hollow cylindrical receiver forthe reception of ashes.
The object of this invention is to provide a stand of this general character with a box or container at the upper end provided with a horizontally-swinging cover, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a smokers stand constructed in accordance with my invention;
2 is a top or plan view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33.
of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the housin closed;
ig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 7 is a side view of the housing and its tube, detached; and
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the cover, detached.
In carrying out myinvention, I employ a base 10, preferably of a casting so as to give sufiicient weight, and this is preferably covered by a sheet metal shell 11. If a shell is employed, an opening 12 will be formed at one side and below this opening the base is formed with a recess 13 to receive the lower end of a tubular post 14 which has a plug 15 in its lower end, whereby the tubular post may be secured to the base by a screw 16. The base also supports a brace 17 which may be of any approved design and which is secured to the center of the base by a bolt 18 formed with a collar 19 resting upon the base to which it is secured by a nut 20. The brace sets over this bolt and is secured thereto by a nut 21.
Secured to the upper end of the brace is I a box 22 formed with an opening 23 to set 25 and a flange 26 extending down into the upper end of the post. Between the collar and the bottom 27 of the box isa washer 28,
and the collar is secured to the bottom of the box by. screws 29 extending downward through the bottom of the collar, through the washer, through the bottom 27 of the box, and through a flat ring or washer 30.
The upper edge of the box is formed with a head 31 upon which a top 32 rests, this top formed with an opening 33 to permit it to be set over the upper edge of the cup which is formed with a flange 34, turned outward over onto the top, around the opening therein, so as to swivel-1y connect the top with the Seated in the/collar is a housing 35 and coupled with this housing is a tubular container 36, adapted to enter the post 14 and closed at its lower end by a screw-cap 37. Coupled with the container 36 is a cup 36 provided with a hinged cover 38, provided at one side with a cigar or cigarette holder 39 and held in its open or closed position by a spring 40.
Connected with the cup is a ring 41 having a bayonet slot 42 to engage with a lug 43 in the housing 35.
The housing and cup with its cap and the tube 36 are readily removable from the sleeve to permit the removal of ashes, burnt matches .and butts. The cover swings horizontally so as to open the box to permit the introduction or removal of cigars or other material contained in the box, and when not in use, the cover is turned to its closed position, the rest .39 forming a stop against one side of the upper end of the housing, but when opened, provides a support for a cigar or cigarette and the cup is open to receive refuse material.
I thus provide in a very attractive form a smokers stand having a receptacle for smokers, material and a removable container for refuse.
I claim:
1. A smokers stand comprising a base, a tubular post mounted at one side of the base, a box formed at one side with an opening in its bottom adapted to set over and be connected with the upper end of said post, a brace between the base andthe box, a collar also ward above the upper edge of the box, a cover connected with the post and extending uparranged between the box and the upper edge of the collar and adapted to turn thereon, a housing set into the collar, a tubular container connected with said housing, a cup at the upper end of said container, and a cover for said cup. i
2. A smokers stand comprising a base, a
tubular post mounted at one side of said base,
a box connectedwith the upper end of said post, a brace between the base and box, a 001- lar extending into said box, acover between the to of the box and the top of the collar and a apted to be turned thereon, a housing mounted in said collar, a tubular container adapted to enter the said post, a cup con nected with the upper end of the container and located within said housing and adapted to be interlocked therewith, a cover pivotally mounted on said cup, and adapted to close the upper end thereof, and a pring connected with the cover and tending 0 hold the cover in its closed position. 1
3. AL smokers stand comprising a base formed with a recess in one side, a tubular post entered in said recess and having a plug I fixed in its lower end, means for securing sa1d plug 1n sa1d base, a box having an opening in its bottom, adapting it to set over the upper end of said post, a brace between the base and the box. a collar located within said i box concentric with said post, a housing setting into said collar, a tubular container adapted to enter said post, a cup at the upper end of said container and within said housing, means for coupling the cup and housing, a cover pivoted to opposite sides of said cup and adapted to close the upper end thereof, and a spring tending to hold the cover in either its open or closed position.
4. .A smokers stand comprising a base, a tubular post mounted at one side of the base, a box mounted at the upper end of the 'post, a collar fixed to the post, and a transversely movable cover turning on said collar and adapted to close the top of said) box.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification. a
WALTER VON NESSEN.
