' COLLAR BUTTON Filed Nov. -30, 1931 INVENT 0RS C02 Cmzbo Mamie Loww Maialfo A TTORNEY.
TATES N l T CGLOMBO MAISEO AND LOUIS MAISIO, 07E BEGOKLYN, NEW" T $33K; SAID LOUIS MAISTO ASSIGNOR TO SAID COLOMBO MAISTO COLLAR BUTTON Application filed November 30, 1931. Serial No. 578,125.
This invention relates to collar buttons.
The main object of the invention is to provide a collar button for holding a removable collar on a shirt which can be attached to the shirt in such a way as not to be lost.
vide a collar button having an oscillating shank whi-.h will swing, under the tension of the collar, in relation to the base.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind in which the parts A are relatively movable to permit yielding.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a button of this kind which will not be forced into the neck by a still collar o the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind having an angular shank for general ease of manipulation and comfort in wearing and to render the button as whole freely flexible.
Another object of the invention is to improve generally the comfort, simplicity and eficiency of such buttons and to provide a button of this kind which is durable in use, economical to manufacture and which will not wear holes in the back of the collar.
Other objects will appear as the disclosure progresses. The drawing is intended to merely indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. .lt is obvious that the actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain m chanical features. It is therefore not intended to limit the invention to the embodiment illustrated but rather to define such limits in the appended claims. For a more general understanding of the invention attention is called to the drawing. In the drawing like reference characters denote like parts throughout the specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view of the collar button.
Figure 2 is a similar view as Figure 1 but showing the base in section.
Figure 3 a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Fi 'ure 4 is a modified form of the inven- 5'" tion.
Figure 5 is a similar view as Figure 4: but showing the base in section.
Figure 6 is a section on line G-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a detail of the bottom of the shank of the form of the invention shown in Figure 5.
Figure 8 is another modified form of the invention.
Referring now to the drawing in detail and especially to Figure 1, numeral 1 designates the ball top of the collar button, 2 the shank and 3 the base. Approximately midway between the ball top and the base is a disk 4:.
The base comprises a bottom 5 attached to the lower end of the shank 2 and provided with a series of air holes 6, a pliable cushion 7 made of soft material and a. ring 8 for holding the cushion in place.
In practice the part of the shank between the disk e and the base 3 pass through the button-hole of the neck band of the shirt of the wearer while the part of the shank between the ball top 1 and the disk 4 pass through the button hole of the removable collar and hold same in place. The purpose of the disk is to prevent the collar button from bei 11g lost. As the neck band of the shirt will always be between the comparatively wide disk 4: and the still wider base 3 there is little likelihood of the collar button being disengaged from the neck band of the shirt.
The cushion 7 being the portion of the collar button which comes in contact with the skin is made of soft and pliable material so it will be comfortable to wear. The purpose of the air holes 6 in the bottom 5 is to allow the air to pass in and out of the chamber 9 in the base when the cushion Wall 7 is bent.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Figure 4, numeral 10 designates the base and 11 the shank having an enlarged head 12 at the top. The base is hollowed out and in the interior is a spring 13 for holding the shank downward against the bottom of the said base in a vertical position. As noted in Figures 5 and 7 one end of the spring abuts against the bottom of the disk 14 and the opposite end is fastened to the restricted portures.
COLOMBO MAISTO. LOUIS MAISTO.
The neck 16 of the base passes through the button-hole of the neck band of a shirt while the shank 11 passes through the button-hole of the removable collar. This angular movement of the shank permits easy insertion of the head into the button-hole of the detachable collar. As the shank inclines sometimes one way and sometimes another, the wear on the collar is so distributed as to be negligible. Also the base of the collar button will always be on the same plane with the neck regardless of the movement of the shank and there will be no chance of the edge of the base pinching the skin.
The modified form of the invention shown in Figure 8 is substantially the same as that shown in Figure 1 with the exception that the base 17 is solid and the entire button is made from one piece of material. Numeral 18 designates the ball top, 19 the shank and 20 the disk.
Having described our invention, we claim:
1. A collar button of the class described made of one piece of material, the combination of a flat circular base, a shank leading from said base, a ball at the top of said shank, and a fiat circular disk between said ball and said base, said disk being smaller in diameter than said base, the distance between said disk and said base being less than the distance between said disk and said ball.
2. A collar button of the class described made of one piece of material, the combination of a flat circular base, a shank leading from said base, a ball at the top of said shank, and a flat circular disk between said ball and said base, said disk being smaller in diameter than said base, the distance between said disk and said base being less than the distance between said disk and said ball, and a circular groove in the top face of said base.
3. In a collar button of the class described, the combination of a flat circular base, a shank leading from said base, an enlargement the topof said shank, and a flat circular disk between said enlargement and said base, said base, said shank and said disk being con-
