CLEANING AND WASHING BRUSH Fi1ed Ap1"l 16. 1931 ,-5 i Inventor Allorney Patented Apr. 18,1933
UNITED STATES? HARRY BEI'ssER, or DRTRQIT, MICHIGAN,` AssIGNoR'Eno oscAR sIIoRR, or DETROIT, MICHIGANV v CLEANING AND WASHING BRUSH Y Application mea Api-i1 16, 193i.y serial 110,530,449. 1
My invention relates to an improvement in automobile cleaning and washing brushes.
One object of my invention is toprovide a brush adapted to be connected with a garden 5 hose through which water is delivered to the brush.
The water discharge nozzle of the brush is embedded in its bristles, the latter completely surrounding the nozzle and projecting beyond its free end to protect highly polished surfaces from injury, which might otherwiseV occur if the nozzle should contact therewith.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appe-ar as the description proceeds'7 the invention further resides in the combination and arrangement of Vparts and in the details of construction hereinafter described andclaimed, it being understood that changes may be made in the precise embodiment of the inventionherein disclosed without departing from the spirit of the same. i
In the drawing accompanying this invention:
Figure l is a side elevation of the washing brush.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same attached to a hose.
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic view of a fragment of the brush prior to ceiling it upon the perforated end of the nozzle, forming a core for the brush. Y
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic view of a fragment of the perforated portion of the nozzle in longitudinal section, showing a pair of twisted wires coiled thereon supporting the bristles forming the brush-the ends of the wires being secured to the nozzle.
placed upon the drawing:
A denotes a nozzle, provided at its outer screwed into a coupling member B, tappedV 45 to receive a cooperating fitting C connecting it with a hose D, to which it is attached.
E denotes a rubber gasket to insure a watertight joint between the. coupling members. F indicates a handle preferably formed 5 of wood, sleeved upon the nozzle.
Referring now to the letters of reference` i G denotes a thrust collar also sleeved upon Vthe nozzle at the forward end of the handle having av cup-shaped.socketubearing against the end of a brush H,vthef`bristles H1` ofV which are held' between al pair of twistedn55 wires HiL coiled around the nozzle,-'to deflect the bristles of the brush-toward the forward end of the nozzle, therebyconcealing it cornpletely from view. 1 g 'Y The twistedstrands of wire supporting the bristles maybe secured to the nozzle in any suitable mannen-for examplelthe ends la; may
project through any opening in the nozzle, or. A
they may be soldered thereto asindicated at Ztl-see Figure 4; Y i
Secured in the end of-the'nozzle is a small brush I, which in combination with the main brush portion forms a pointedend to assist in guiding the brush into narrow or otherwise restricted openings.' '.70'
The operation of the devicek will be readily understood. l
The nozzle is attached to a garden hose through which water passes, to the brush I-I upon opening a Valve-not shown-control- 1,75 ling the delivery of water thereto. AThe operator applies thebrush to the surface and as the water flows therethrough onto thesurface to be cleaned, it quickly washes and rinses to obtain satisfactory results. f
Having thus described'my invention, what I claim is: i
1. In a cleaning and washingbrush, the combination of a pipe nozzle tted at one end :V with a coupling 'memberfor attachment to a cooperating hose coupling, saidpipe nozzle being perforated at its forward end for the discharge of water; 4and a brush having bristles secured between a Vpair of twisted wires 1199 coiled relatively close together around the nozzle, that the bristles may be massed and project radially from and longitudinally beyond the end of the nozzle, the ends of saidpair of wires extending through a hole in the nozzle and soldered to the nozzle to secure the brush thereon.
2. In a cleaning and washing brush, the combination of a pipe nozzle screw-threaded at one end to receive a hose coupling member, :1.00
said pipe nozzle perforated at its forward end for the discharge of water; an annular brush sleeved upon and secured to the perorated end of the nozzle, its radially disposed bristles concealing, inclosing and projecting longitudinally beyond the end of said y nozzle, whereby the surface washed is protected from contact therewith; a cup shaped thrust collar sleeved on the nozzle adjacent the innerend of the brush, adapted to deflect v Vsaid radially disposed bristles in a longitudinal direction, thereby massing the bristles closely around the nozzle and concealing it from View; a handle sleeved upon the nozzle contacting at one end with the thrust collar;
and a hose coupling member screwed upon the end of the nozzle, whereby upon adjustment, the handle is gripped between the thrust collar and the hose coupling member.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification.
` HARRY BEISSER.
