L. DOBOS HEADLIGHT FOR AUTOMOBILES Filed Feb. 26, 1929 Patented Apr. 18, 1933 LADISLAUS nonos, or BINGHAIIZTON,
HEADLIGHT FOR AUTOMOBILES.
Application filed February 26, .1929. Serial No. 342,770.
The object of my invention is to provide a form of head light for automobiles or motor videtherays of light. When for anyr'eavehicle headlights, and to provide in connection with the headlight of usual construction a simple'and highly efficient device, to concentrate the light rays in a small area immediately forward of the vehicle on which the,
headlight is mounted, and to eliminate as far as possible glare; also to provide a hood for the headlight so positioned as to cover more or less of the upper part of th'elight and thus screen the more blinding rays and form a shade for the headlight, and also toprovide a reflector designed to direct the light rays from a lamp downward on the road surface.
With these objects in view my invention consists of the following novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as more clearly appearin the accompanying drawing, and as pointed out in the'claim; reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which: 1
Fig. 1 is a side view of my device.
Fig. 2 is a front View of my device.
Fig. 3 is a front view of a modified form of my device.
Fig. 4 is a side view of a modified form of my device. V
Fig. 5 is a side view of a fragmentary part of a modified form of my device.
The samereference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawing.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a" body portion A, in somewhat bell shape formation, extending from the inner end towards the outer end, the lighting bulb Y be ing mounted in the inner end; the outwardly expanding part .is divided on a central horizontal line 5 into upper and lower parts and the upper portion forming ahinged lid B, in expanding outline and hinged to'the body A, by the hinge2. The upper portion is projected at the'front into a sloping projection,
as shown Fig. 1. From the upper'a'linement of the body A, horizontally, I have an elongated hood C, which'extends insome- What pointed outlinelto its outer end 3.
Asa further part of the device, I- have vertically mounted above the lower front'of The lens 4 may be a magnifying lens, to di son I desire to reach thebulb Y for Ireplacement, or any other purpose,-Ican open 5 the lid B, hinged at 2, and tip it back. i
In a further modifiedform of my device, I have the body A, having the hood B, and g the hood hinged at 2 at theside of the body A, as shown inFig. 3, and when for any 6 reason it is desired to open the hood B, it may assume the form or position as shown inFig.3.' I In a further modified formof my device as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, I havea body'A, 51 as shown in Fig. 4, and mounted on thebody A, I have the-body C, as shown in 4 and Fig. 5. p The body C having the sloping front, and the shade formation. The part C, as shown in Fig. 5, may be formed sepa- 7'0 A i rately from the body A, and may bejoined to the body as shown in Fig. 4, in any convenient manner, either by hooks or by'screw thread'connection, and when soused the,.j
parts C and A assume the relation and po-"ts sition, as shown in Fig. 4. 1 the body; G 7 I have mounted the hooks 6,6, adapted. to 1] book over the lugs 7, 7 onthe body A.
In theconstruction of my devicefI have I the sloping outer-front 3, as shown.i ;-Fjg f r 1,2, 4 and 5, and projected vertically above"), this sloping outer end I have mounted the lens 4. .It is understood thatthe lower or inn-ersideof C is to have a reflectorsurface 7 s pi nd. 8
and that the inner surface of the 3 1s also to have a reflector surface; the rays of light extending from the ,bulb-Ycontactj with thereflector surface on the inner side the ground surface directedlby the conformation of the'hood Having thus described invention what, f
I claim as new and for which I desire Let-"" ters Patent is as follows A headlight for automobiles, comprising a flaring casing having a body portion open at its top, a complementary lid portion hing-i edly connected at the rear to'the body 'por- 1 tion at a right angle to the vertical axial plane of the headlight and forming with the body portion a complete headlight casing, an integral anti-glare hood portion shaped to conform to the headlight casing, projecting forwardly from the lid and extending in front of the body portion, and a reflector on the under s'urface o fthe projecting hood.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
