The object of the invention is to provide means for insuring positive and accurate positioning of material placedupon the transfer table of vertical printing presses.

And a still further object of the invention is to provide an'attachment for the transfer table of vertical printing presses for insuring accurate positioning of material upon the table thereby saving time and preventing tripping on curly stock which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a rear guide rod slidably mounted on the transfer table with pointedscrews engaging racks in the table for locating the rod, and adjustable rear guide members slidably mounted on the said rod.

In the drawing the device is shown as it would be made wherein numeral 1 indicates the transfer table, numeral 2 the rear guide 1 rod, and numeral 3 the spring guide members mounted upon'the said rod.
I The table 1 may be of any suitable material. of any desired shape or size,'and may be at tached to the printing machine in any suit- 1 able manner. Itmay also be provided tobe installed upon a press as shown or upon a press of any other type or description. In the design shown the table 1 is of a rectangumally used with presses of this type and may be attached to the press in the usual manner. i
At the ends of the tableare bars 4 which are held to the table by brackets 5 and screws T 6 as shown in Figure 6. The ends of the rod 2are slidably mounted'on these bars and in the design shown the ends of the rod are bent downward over the bars andprovided with notches 7 which fit over the bars. It will be understood however that thisv rod may be mounted upon the bars inany other suitable manner. Knurledhead screws 8 are threaded in the rod- 2 and the inner endsof the screws are provided with points 9 which en gage rackslO embedded in grooves 11 in the transfer table, and it'will be noted that these screws locate and hold the rod in any desired desired to change the position of the and then tightened when the guides are in the proper position to hold them.
The spring guides 3. are preferably made as shown in Figure 3 of flat pieces of material it is ings therein by which they are held to the supports, vertical portions extending downward from the horizontal members to the table 1 and then horizontal tips lying flat upon the table. These guides are held to clips 12 which are slidably held in frames 13 and the frames 13 are slidably mounted on the rod 2. The guides 3 are held to the clips by screws'lt and the clips 13 which have a downwardly extending portion 15 at one end are held by a screW 16 which is threaded in the frame 13 and the end is rotatably attached to the portion 15 of the clip as shown in Figure 3. It will be noted that as the screw 16 is turned it will move the clip and guide backward and forward to adjust the position of the guide for different sizes of paper or material. The frames 13 are formed with vertical members 17 and 18 and the upper end of the member 17 is formed with a notch 19 in which the clip 12 rests and the member 18 is provided with an opening 20 through which the end of the clip 3 passes. The frames 13 are provided with an extension 21 which completely surrounds the rod 2 and in the upper side of the extension is a thumb-screw 22 which holds the frame in position upon the rod and when loosened permits the frame and guide to be moved to any desired position upon the rod.
In the design shown in Figure 1 the spring guides 3 are extended a considerable distance from the rod 2 so that they may hold or position small material such as post cards upon the transfer table. The lower ends are extended by a horizontal member 23 and adjacent the tips which are indicated by-the numeral 24 is a channel shaped section 25 which forms a guide for the material. These guides may replace the guides shown in Figure 3 and either design may be used as desired.
It will be understood that other changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the use of other means for mounting the rod 2 upon the table, another may be in the use of other means for holding the rod in position, and still another may be in the use of other means for holding the guides upon the rod.
, The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the transfer table may be supplied as shown in Figure 2 and the guides 3 set to engage the rear edges of the material as it is fed to the table so that the material will be positively and accurately positioned to register in the exact position and cover all of the vacuum openings immediately even though the edges may be curly. By insuring an exact position in this manner lost motion is eliminated and a saving of time and material is accomplished.
The width of the transfer table used in this device is also slightly increased so that the stock may lie firm thereon.
Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a transfer table rear guide, a plurality of spring guide members adapted to engage the rear edge of material placed upon said table, a common member upon which said guide members are mounted, means for adjusting the position of said guide members upon said common member, means for adjusting the distance of the working face of said guide members from said common member, and means for adjusting the position of said common member upon said table.
2. In a rear guide for transfer tables or the like, a rod slidably mounted on said table, releasable means for holding said rod in different positions, spring guide members, frames upon which said spring guide members are adjustably mounted, and means for adjustably holding said frames on said rod.
3. In a rear guide for transfer tables, a'rod slidably mounted longitudinally of said table, bars at the ends of the table upon which the ends of said rod are slidably mounted, racks transversely positioned in relation to said table and imbedded therein, screws threaded in said rod engaging said racks for holding said rod, frames slidably mounted upon said rod, means for holding said frames in different positions, spring guidesmounted upon said frames, and means for adjustably holding said guides to saidframes.
1. A printing press transfer table having slots therein, guides on the said table, and means in the said slots for holding the said guides;
5. In a transfer table for printing presses or the like, adjustable means slidably mounted upon the table and. positioned in slots extending partially across said table, for engaging the rear edges of materialplaced upon the said table.
6. In a transfer table, having a slot therein, adjustable means slidably mounted upon the table and located in said slot for engaging the edge of material placed upon said table.
